Love love love!! I hv painted mine white as well. We bought 2 inexpensive indoor/outdoor runners from Costco & stapled them on. This helps with dirt (brown pattern same color as dirt and dog hair) AND super necessary in summer when wet feet run in from pool, up the stairs to the bathroom! I think I'm going to re-do my banisters soon tho...from white to high gloss black. Well done Benita!!

in response 2 your request for more info on drilling small hole into drywall and running cables down it...my hubby does that sometimes w/ 'fishing wire'...but it's not really for fishing. it's from the hardware store for such a purpose. but i'm not sure we've ever done it with a SMALL drilled hole. be ready to re-patch the drywall. b/c i think the problem still remains of your hand in the bottom hole, finding the wire fed down from above...till you can grasp it.. and pull thru. clear as mud? (sorry) my attempt at 'helping!'

hi benita: above someone asked you about the painting tip....did you see her after comment? i'm sure you did. she is wondering if you use a small roller? or do you use a regular roller and dip it in the can vertically? i need to know too!

hi benita! i almost hate to comment cuz you've gotten over 100 already. my 2cents' is like above, i don't see country...or cottage. b/c of you i've painted as much in my house as i can WHITE...(as much as my family will let me!) we UNcarpeted the stairs to reveal not wood treads but particle-board stairs...i primed and primed and painted white!!! they were very hard to keep clean! (i have 3 children!) recently, tho, we bought 2 runners per set of stairs (i have 2 sets of 7 stairs in our tri-level home) at $10/runner at Costco, and my husband installed....LOVE THEM!!!! now i vacuum them about once a week and only the white sides that show are dirty...and then only need vac'd not washed w/ a washcloth! i'm SO happy! even if i had to replace them in a year or 2...no biggie! i'll be excited to see what you decide to do on the stairs. i also had them a shiny grey paint for a while. that showed everything too. but i love painted stairs. eventually we hope to put on new treads...and will buy pine probably and stain them dark like our main floor. but no full on carpet for us again...ever! thnx for the pics as usual!!!

benita...what of your 'white walls with grey trim?' that threw me. GREY trim? i didn't know you use GREY trim. i thought you always went with white. what's your design theory behind the grey? thanks!=)

oh no! i just re-read comments which led me to re-read your little *side* note (you slipped it in) about not blogging another whole week! i-yi-yi! i know you have a life...and i'm happy for you. i will go another week w/o my daily benita fix! btw benita....it's been, i think since fall of 2009 that i started reading your blog. it took me a while but i read back thru every single one of your posts. it started me on a journey of minimizing my household. AND going WHITE! eventually, we SOLD OUR HOUSE (praise God) and moved into a smaller home (you inspired us in your 1100 sf home) and moved into a much smaller (for us) home (about 1700sf) WITH A POOL! a dream come true. and we've set out to modernize this smaller house and at the time that i write this all but one room in this house is COMPLETELY bright white!!! i LOVE the clean, crisp-ness of our home. =) thank you! kt from the desert of WA
