I have attended our local caucus the last six years or so. But, this year, it was impressed on my heart that it was time to prepare differently for the evening as I might have to testify about why we as Christian believers should not vote for someone of the Mormon faith. To compound the problem, I was also supporting Newt Gingrich. I left the house prepared, hoping for the best, and hoping that I would not be called upon. Continue reading

I was interested this week to hear Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speak of the freedoms that the nation of Israel and the United States of America share. These freedoms are rare and even non-existent for most of the nations of the world. I could not help but be drawn to the many spiritual connections between these two nations. Both would honor the following verse from the Torah and the Bible. Continue reading

Just as we receive a call to repentance that leads to a changed life in the salvation process, there is another call for change. We also receive a call to live in repentance. Continue reading

We are a people that love comfort. It is to what we have become accustomed. Having comfort was not common throughout history past, it is not common for many in our world now, and it is likely that it will not be common in the future. Continue reading

It has been a year since posting “Women on Assignment” on August 29, 2009. This year has strengthened us, weakened us, humbled us, challenged us, and provided a variety of thoughts, emotions, and opportunities for soul searching as we have walked this spiritual journey. Continue reading

The Christian ethic of the third commandment is that of honor. And what carries more honor than one’s name. Continue reading

The Christian ethic of the second commandment is that we – you and I do not come first. What we want, what we feel, what we desire and yes, even what we need – none of this comes before God. Continue reading

It was prominent in early Old Testament history for inhabitants of the world to have many idols. Indeed, as Moses led the Hebrew people out of Egypt and into the desert, he was called by God to come up onto Mount Sinai to meet with Him. Continue reading

The Hebrew Ethic began in the Garden of Eden. We’ll talk about various civil laws, ceremonial laws, prophetic utterances, wisdom literature and more later, but it is important here to look at the Ten Commandments. Continue reading

There is an ethic of science – the physical and natural sciences. There are ethics of all professions. There are “Pastoral” ethics. We could go on and on. But here we are concerned with Christian or Biblical ethics Let’s start with the ethics stemming from the Old Testament, sometimes called “Hebrew” ethics. Continue reading

2 - CHRISTIAN ETHICS AND CHARACTER – Introduction (Part 2) Last time we looked at an introduction to Christian Ethics and Character. This time, we will continue with that introduction. I have read a lot of material in this area – books, websites, articles – and most have good, relevant information. On the other hand many tend to be topical without first addressing what I believe to be of first importance. That is, what is the meaning of Christian ethics? Dr. Grudem states as follows: Although there is inevitably some overlap between the study of theology and the study of... Continue reading

I believe that within the Church universal – all believers, rather than a specific church – the subject of Christian ethics and character is either not taught well and/or many believers do not see the urgent need to live under these standards. Of course that is not true of all believers, so I don’t want to make a sweeping generality, but nonetheless, it is a topic of concern. Continue reading

In all deference to my Arminian brothers, I must conclude with Grudem: . . . Arminians must leave unanswered the questions regarding God’s knowledge of the future, why would he allow evil when it is against his will and whether he will certainly triumph over evil. Their failure to resolve these questions tends to diminish the greatness of God – his omniscience, his omnipotence and the absolute reliability of his promise for the future. . . Moreover, by denying that God can make creatures who have real choices that are nevertheless caused by him, the Arminian position diminishes the wisdom and skill of God the Creator. Continue reading
