As promised, here is part two of our segment on rulers and the new brand, Quilters Select. Quilters Select Rulers were designed specifically with quilters in mind. All edges are marked in one inch increments, from left to right and right to left (or top to bottom and bottom to top, depending on how you’re viewing it). This means you are not having to rotate your ruler constantly to get the correct edge and you aren’t trying to count backwards or do math in your head while cutting. This quality has appealed to left handed quilters. With the numbers running... Continue reading

Hello fellow quilters, Today we are going to talk about rulers! We have some great info for you and a ruler announcement to share. Having several trusty rulers in a variety of sizes is essential for every quilter. The hardest part is trying to decide what brand and what sizes are the most helpful and useful. As a young quilter I did not have any ruler knowledge when I decided I wanted to learn to quilt. I decided in the store what size to buy without any research, without consideration for the markings, and without any grip on the back.... Continue reading

Hello Ladies and Gents, Todays blog topic is Wool Pressing Mats. I do not currently own a wool pressing mat, but I have heard lots of good things about them and seen people bring them to classes at the shop. As you may or may not have noticed, I liked to do lots of research and find as much information as possible before I make a decision. It does not matter if I am buying a car, or a wool pressing mat. Since Country Sampler recently started carrying them, I decided it was time to do some hunting and see... Continue reading

Welcome back to the second part of our One Block Wonder Blog Series. This series was inspired by Linda’s One Block Wonder Classes. The first class covers fabric selection and preparation, cutting technique, and sewing the hexagons. For more info, check out the first part in the blog series: One Blog Wonder. The second session in the class series is Overall Design and Transition with Cubes, and will be the focus of this blog post. This class address overall layout, grouping of kaleidoscope blocks, use of cube blocks for transitional purposes. Hexagon cubes add a 3-demensional quality to the quilt... Continue reading

Hello friends! This blog post is dedicated to one of the newer classes we have at Country Sampler, One Block Wonder taught by Linda! One Block Wonder is a technique created by Maxine Rosenthal. One day she went down to her sewing room and picked out a fabric, unfortunately she could not find anything in her stash that would coordinate with the piece with which she wanted to work. On this day she also had a plumber at her house fixing her kitchen sink, so she wasn’t able to make a run to the fabric shop. She decided that wasn’t... Continue reading

Flying Geese. The ability to make them is a critical skill for any quilter. Whether you are traditional quilter or more modern, they show up in all quilt patterns. Some traditional quilt patterns even call for upwards of 300 flying geese. That's a lot of flying geese. In my beginning quilting days, flying geese were very intimidating. I loved the look of flying geese, but I was not confident in my ability to make them. The points! Oh the points. So pretty.....unless you cut them off. There are even three opportunities to cut off points, SCARY! Traditionally pieced flying geese... Continue reading

Attention Round Two Farm Girl Vintage BOM gals … We've had an error in the August packets. The Kitchen Window block should have received (4) 3x3 squares, but only received 2x2 squares. (The staff who cut it must have looked at the finished size, not the cutting size, on the chart!) We corrected the eight packets we still had before we found the error and we have cut the replacements for the rest. Next time you're in the shop, remember to pick up the corrected fabric. Sorry for the error! Continue reading
