Hi everyone, Welcome back! You know, this site is a little over 11 years old now, so that means we spent about six to seven years writing for it it without having to talk about Donald Trump at length every day. That seems like centuries ago, but we're excited to do it again. What a treat to no longer have to discuss his every offensive and treasonous action, unless of course we're discussing the next development in his many legal problems. We kept waiting for something to go wrong yesterday before Joe Biden and Kamala Harris finally took their oaths... Continue reading

(Programming note: We have a number of errands that have to be done before tomorrow's inauguration ceremony, so we will see you again on Thursday.) Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? I was just talking to BDH and Little Buddha about how exciting it is that this is Donald Trump's last full day in the White House. The nightmare is finally almost over. At the same time, one can't help being worried about something bad happening tomorrow. Hopefully the powers-that-be have taken sufficient steps to prevent that. Yes, we're just over 24 hours away from returning to a competent... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? BDH and Little Buddha were just telling me about the long-range weather forecast. Looks like it's going to get a little chillier, and snow is mentioned several times. Guess we can't get too worked up about that. It is mid-January, after all. Hopefully we won't get buried again, but hey, we'll just deal with whatever comes. In any case, happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day to you all. Remember to dismiss any politician who tries to sell you a softened version of the civil rights leader who they claim would have supported conservative... Continue reading

Oscar-winning actress Regina King has moved into the director's chair, and her first movie, One Night In Miami, is knock-out. Based on a play by Kemp Powers (and now playing on Amazon Prime Video, plus a theatrical release), the story is based on the fact that Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali (still going by Cassius Clay at the time), Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke were in all in Miami on February 25, 1964, when Clay beat Sonny Liston to become the boxing heavyweight champion of the world. The film uses that historic event to place these four icons into a cramped... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Any big plans for the weekend? It's dark and rainy outside right now, and I think the rain is supposed to last until at least mid-afternoon. Sounds like a good day for staying inside, maybe doing a little cleaning, watering the plants, and then watching some football. BDH and Little Buddha think that's a great idea, so I'm definitely on the right track. Man, it is really coming down out there. Hopefully we won't lose power. A weatherman said this would have been a significant snowstorm if it was cold enough, so here's... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and congratulations on making it to another Friday! Did anyone else here feel like they just ran out of gas this week? I saw some people tweeting about that a few days ago, and it was definitely the case for me. Everything hit harder than usual for no reason on Tuesday, and the other days seemed to take more energy to get through than usual. I don't know. There's also the fact that January remains my least favorite month of the year. In any case, BDH and Little Buddha say not to think about it too... Continue reading

Malcolm X is one of the most fascinating and compelling religious and political figures of the 20th century. His transformation from street hustler to one of the driving forces behind the Nation of Islam (NOI), and his subsequent break from that organization as he embraced traditional Islam, shortly before his assassination in 1965, is a gripping tale. Many have learned about his story and message of Black strength and independence via the classic Autobiography of Malcolm X, co-written by Alex Haley and published after Malcolm's death. We can not recommend that book highly enough. However, there is a new biography... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Sorry we're late. My sleep has been a little rocky this week, so BDH and Little Buddha turned my alarm off again to give me a chance to reset. It must have been the right call, because I don't think I woke up once last night. None of today's errands have to be done by a certain time, so that will all work out fine. Now, let's check out today's headlines. The guys made coffee, so grab yourself a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Thursday Clutter. (Don't forget... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Yesterday was frustrating. We had a blast with you guys, but there were no new books to be found for BDH and Little Buddha. After that, the schedule ended up getting thrown off for the day, which I rarely handle well. Finally, the stress of all of (gestures around) this just hit me harder than usual. I was a cranky camper by bedtime. However, the guys reminded me that days like that will happen every now and again (especially during a pandemic that's almost a year old), and hey, we'll just start over... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Yes, 2021 seems just as crazy and stressful as 2020 so far, which isn't fun. However, BDH and Little Buddha are excited to announce that our new limited-edition T-shirt is here! The guys put a lot of work into that one, and they hope you enjoy it. It's only available until January 26, so don't miss out! In addition to the shirt, our crew is happy because it's Tuesday, and that means a trip to check out the new releases at the bookstore. They have about 100 pages left in their current book,... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Ready for a new week? Neither are we, but let's do it anyway. Things got off to a bumpy start here this morning. No sooner had I gotten out of bed, and the power went out. BDH and Little Buddha were confused, and they asked if it was something we did. Thankfully, by the time I finished explaining to them that it had nothing to do with us, the power was back on, and we were able to begin our day. As BDH said, "That was weird." I have a couple of errands... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? We're having a little trouble figuring out this weekend's schedule, so BDH and Little Buddha asked if we could hang out with you today in case we can't do it tomorrow. I can't say no to those two, so...hi! I do know that we'll be watching today's NFL playoff games because it's fun to be able to enjoy the drama when you don't care who wins. Well, we'll watch the first two games, and then some new Trump-related story will probably break in the evening. For now, let's check out the headlines. The... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and a happy Friday to you all. We made it through the first week of 2021! Seemed like it was six months long, but we made it! What's your plan for the weekend? Not sure what we're going to do. The annual gap between the end of the New England Patriots and the start of the Boston Red Sox is always a little confusing, and it's longer than usual this time. BDH and Little Buddha are happy to read their book, but they also asked if we could still watch some football playoff games, so those... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back. Yesterday started off like pretty much any other Wednesday. We hung out with you for a bit and then did a couple of errands later in the morning. It was business as usual until we decided to watch a few minutes of the Electoral College certification process, and then all hell broke loose about five minutes later. After that, BDH, Little Buddha, and I spent the rest of the day glued to the TV while also refreshing Twitter every 30 seconds until it was time for bed. There's an enemy of the country living in the... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? My foot is still bothering me, although not as much as yesterday, so our medical professionals (i.e. BDH and Little Buddha) want me to continue trying to stay off it while also having another Advil. I should have asked if these two take my health insurance. Other than that, it's business as usual here at the moment, so let's get down to work. The guys just made coffee, so grab yourself a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Wednesday Clutter. The Georgia Senate runoff election results are off to... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? I know it's Tuesday, but BDH and Little Buddha are still in the first half of their current book, so I think we're going to skip this week's trip to the bookstore. It's just as well, because I seem to have done something to my foot, and I should probably try to stay off it as much as possible today. Not sure what happened, but we're going to start with Googling "bruised heel" when we're done here. Our medical staff also suggests taking Advil, which probably couldn't hurt. When they're not busy dispensing... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Did you have a good weekend? Ours was fine, but I'm not sure why it seemed to go by so quickly. Maybe it's just the continued excitement over it no longer being 2020. There are a number of items on today's to-do list, but I have to carve out some reading time this afternoon, because BDH and Little Buddha are loving their latest book, which is great. Of course, the first thing we need to do is check out the headlines. The guys made coffee, so grab yourself a nice medium DD, because... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? It looks like we may not be able to hang out tomorrow, so BDH and Little Buddha wanted to make sure they had the chance to say hello today. How's your 2021 going so far? We had a lazy day yesterday. Most of it was spent watching The Twilight Zone and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia marathons, which we could get into making a new tradition. The new Doctor Who special was on after that, so we pretty much crammed a week's worth of TV watching into one day. The guys will be... Continue reading

The last time we saw the Doctor, she'd just been told that everything she knew about her history was a lie, and then she was promptly thrown into a maximum security prison, while her "fam" returned to Earth, not knowing if they'd ever see her again. All of that happened in March 2020, which now feels like 100 years ago. There's no better way to start a new year than with the return of our favorite Time Lord and company, including Captain Jack Harkness! (Warning: Many spoilers ahead.) Plot Summary: American businessman Jack Robertson is back, and he's accidentally given... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and a happy 2021 to you all! It didn't seem like 2020 was ever going to end, but we made it! The new year will of course bring its own challenges, but just making it through that mess is worth celebrating. What did you do last night? It was mostly a combination of The Twilight Zone and The Three Stooges for us. I decided we deserved some cookies for the last night of the year, and you could argue that was a mistake, but whatever. BDH and Little Buddha were on a sugar rush for most... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and a happy New Year's Eve to you all! Just a few more hours to go until we can finally say we are done with 2020. It's not that we expect the world to change overnight, but we are hopeful that 2021 will be better by comparison to this nightmare. Hopefully that's not too much to ask, right? What are your plans for the evening? It won't be anything too crazy here. We're currently debating whether to stay up until midnight to see 2021 arrive, or perhaps go to bed closer to the usual time to... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? I know I said we probably weren't going to the bookstore yesterday, but I changed my mind. That turned out to be a good call, because I found something new for BDH and Little Buddha to read. I was starting to get the sense they weren't loving their other book, so we're putting that one away for a little while. The guys seem to be excited about this one, which is good, because it's long. It will definitely keep them busy for the rest of 2020 and should last a good bit into... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? I did this week's grocery shopping yesterday, so that's the last big crowd for me in 2020. Looking forward to not giving that a second thought at some point next year. Not sure if we're going to take a trip to the bookstore today or not. BDH and Little Buddha are set for a while with their reading, so we might hold off on that for a bit. Also, of course we're disappointed that the New England Patriots didn't make the playoffs this year, but I gotta be honest - we are not... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? We're heading into the final stretch of 2020, and not a moment too soon. This will probably be a quiet week for our crew. Apart from grocery shopping, we'll be avoiding crowds and mostly combining reading with watching some end-of-year TV programs. (We see you, Doctor Who on BBC America marathon!) BDH and Little Buddha just reminded me that the New England Patriots game is tonight, so we'll also need a nap later this afternoon so we can stay up for the whole thing. Yeah, nothing crazy, and that's just the way we... Continue reading

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Our crew is doing well at the moment. We finally had a chance to catch Wonder Woman 1984 yesterday, and it was disappointing. (See full review here.) Oh well, it still made for a relaxing Saturday. A wrench has been thrown into our plan to watch the New England Patriots - Buffalo Bills game this afternoon: They don't play until tomorrow night! Not sure what we'll do now, although there are a couple of errands on the list...oh, and the guys have their books...We'll figure that out later. BDH and Little Buddha just... Continue reading
