You're right. Life might settle down for 5 minutes or even 10, but then off it goes again. I might write in fits and starts, but I've learned to write anyway.
Authors sometimes forget what a small world we write in. I think being a 'diva' can burn lots of bridges with editors. And editors move to different houses sometimes. Leaving an editor with a bad taste in their mouth won't make them eager to work with you in the future. Another mistake is that authors forget that writing is also a business, not just an art. Once you sign a contract, your book is still yours. However, you've given consent to content editors, copyeditors, marketing, etc. to have a hand in your book--the final product.
