I am offline right now and attempting to write a post poolside at the Marco Polo Hotel in in Korcula Croatia. (everything is named "Marco Polo here...clearly a favorite son. It's easy to stumble into the wrong hotel...which I promptly did. "Excuse me, what time does the pool close?" (Thickly accented lady at the front desk), "What swimming pool...we don't have swimming pool, you must belong next door." Me with American accent, "oops" This is kind of like writing in the middle of the night with the lights off or blindfolded, but hey...I may even do better than when I... Continue reading

I'm sleeping in a castle! I knew I was meant to be royalty. Wifi is pretty rough and spotty so I don't know when I'll get this posted, but I'll be ready when the time is right. I know, first world problems. We've been traveling through Slovenia for a couple of days now I just don't have the words to describe the sights and the beauty. Maybe I could find them with a bit more effort but to be honest, I'm exhausted. There is no moss growing under our heels, as the saying goes and I am not above dropping... Continue reading

I never know what will transpire as I sit to write. Each environment is different as I travel and since I am so affected by my surroundings it's always a crapshoot. ....that and I've had one Negroni (Compari, gin, vodka, orange slices) and a local Slovenian beer(Union), so I can't be held completely responsible. -leaving Trieste My little band of warriors made it here to the beautiful city of Ljubljana yesterday. I'm so proud of us! We took the bus from Trieste and you would have thought we were boarding the Lunar shuttle, our preparation was so complete. The days... Continue reading

I wasn't going to post again so soon, but it was such an exciting day that I decided to share some of it - so here I am on my toy keyboard again. I am going to try and make this quick since we have a big day tomorrow and it's almost 1a. I still haven't caught up. Shortly after I signed off last night I heard the comforting patter of a nice solid rain. It had been humid all day and sure enough when I opened my heavy shutters (I am not kidding) down it came. Then the sky... Continue reading

I have a few confessions to make from the outset: 1-I haven't blogged in a while. New technological challenges. 2-I am using a new key board with my mini IPad and I'm quite sure it was made for Barbie dolls. 3-I am on foreign wifi 4-I've been up for over 32 hr 5-I am not going to proofread 6-I am more than a little tipsy 7-I am breaking a cardinal rule of not texting, fbing, or blogging when the status is more than one of the above. I am going to try to make this short...I have GOT to get... Continue reading

(originally published Dec 16, 2015) Well….this is it – my last official day. It feels….ok. Maybe that’s because I’ve already agreed to help orient the new students for a couple of days in the beginning of winter quarter. It’s not easy to say “no” and I think I knew that the beginning of the new year my assistance might be requested. I’d like to think that it’s because I’m not that easy to replace, but that’s not exactly true…….not precisely…. SO as a safeguard I made some plans very soon following the holidays….but still I held out a little….knowing, thinking…..hoping... Continue reading

(Originally published in November, 2015 as I approached my retirement date of Jan 1st. Bear with me here as I archive a couple of posts from my defunct site) I am a PROcrastinator….not an amatuer-crastinator. I know I am not alone. I am so passionate about this that I even procrastinate about procrastinating – I had to go to bed last night before finishing this post. What I SHOULD be doing is the final evaluations of each of my students and preparing for their end-of-the quarter conferences that I’ve scheduled for right after Thanksgiving. This happens every quarter (ok, a... Continue reading

(This was originally written in November of 2015 as I prepared to retire. I had planned to start a new blog site, but worried about the archiving of my former journey. I've decided to merge the two...trying to keep things simple - what a concept! This is mostly for me, so who the heck cares?! Right?) My beloved, late-husband (what a stupid term…if he is just tardy then I’ve had a very long wait and he has a lot of explaining to do.) died just over five years ago. I wrote a blog during the last part of his illness,... Continue reading

Good question, Jim. Coming from the west side of the mountains I didn't even think to ask. Eastern Washington is MUCH warmer so during the day those little teepees were more like saunas. Fortunately we were out during the day and earlly autumn is cool at night so we were fine. Not sure how well people would survive in mid-summer. There were fans, but didn't help much. Definitely a spring or fall destination.
