Julia's Pumpkin Pie Bread Pudding
Yesterday Julia was talking about wanting to make something with me. Something to eat. I asked what she wanted to make, and she said, after a bit of thought, "pumpkin bread pie." She also launched into a great long list of other things she'd like to make - various cakes, pies, cookies, and...
Ummmmm, I do own an apron, do I wear it? Only when I remember. Nine times out of ten I forget and then I wonder why I have so much blasted laundry at the weekend. Cake batter splattered t shirts, jeans that smell of roast chicken. You get the idea I'm sure! Oh and just to satisfy your curiosity further, my apron is a red Ikea number, snazzy huh? ;0)
Okay, Let's Have a Giveaway
** This contest is closed and finished now. ** Short and sweet: I'm giving away not one, but two, count 'em, TWO cookbooks. They came to me as a set, and I feel I need to keep them together. The set? First, we have Cooking Basics, a Betty Crocker publication. The subtitle is "Recipes and Tips ...
I'm cutting out as much processed food as possible. The result of this action is that I'm cooking from. We are also cutting down food bills, reducing waste from packaging and also waste from leftovers. Any leftovers are being incorporated into other meals and lunches.
I can really recommend this, you'll be amazed at how much better you feel, as well as how good your wallet feels. There's also the feel good factor of buying local produce and helping to support local industry too! See, result all round :0)
Enough kids' stuff--how about a grown-up lunchbox?
Congratulations to Krista Davis Gut, the winner of the bento lunchbox in last week's contest! Krista, please email me your address so I can ship it to you. And now on to what I think is the most exciting giveaway so far this month. Grown-ups have food allergies and intolerances, too, so I though...
I love beefy jerky!!!!
That looks really tasty, how could I make it without a smoker? I don't have a barbeque either!
Beef Jerky
So what did you do over the weekend? On Sunday, we made jerky. Well, actually, the process began on Saturday with the purchase of about 3 lbs of beef. I don't remember what the cut was, but it was boneless and looked tasty. (It was two approximately one-and-a-half-pound packages, not one t...
Wow! Suitably impressed! I love the ballerina elephants, daren't let daughter see this though, she'll be expecting greatness next time I make her a ckae!!!
Of Ballerina Elephants and Battles in the Senate Rotunda
We finally had the kids' birthday parties. Yeah, I know. They both have spring birthdays, and here it is, the end of August. We didn't have parties at the times of their actual birthdays, because that was when we were in the midst of drywall dust and joint compound and transforming what had b...
It's posts like this that make me love reading your blog! You make me laugh! ^-^
This Year's Halloween Costumes
Whaddaya think? We figured in the interest of saving money this year, we'd use vegetable trimmings to make the costumes. Here they are wearing beards made of scallion roots. Pretty snazzy, huh? I know, I know. You wish you'd thought of it first.
That looks soooooooo good. I may have to splurge this weekend when grocery shopping to buy the ingredients for this. Purely so I can review it of course!
Pistachio Praline Popcorn
The September issue of Gourmet magazine is arranged kind of alphabetically. I've already used two recipes, which is funny, in a way, because though I love my cooking magazines, for some reason I hardly use the recipes. I get ideas, of course, but I don't necessarily follow the recipes. T...
sea snail, I'd never have got that in a month of Sundays! Thanks for the fun though!
Any Guesses? - Never Mind! Time's Up! Answer is Below! Woohoo!
I don't think it'll be as difficult as some of my past "what is it" offerings.... That, my friends, is the operculum of a sea snail my husband caught while he was digging quahogs yesterday. We cooked up the snail, and the operculum popped off. Pretty, isn't it? And we've all learned a n...
Hmmmmph! you could go off a person very easily (only joking!)
I'll probably not see this until tomorrow, so you will keep me in suspenders!
