This Crew team is really flying under the radar. Ives: you fail to mention Andres Mendoza and Emilio Renteria. They are the first choice strikers and much of the offensive load will fall on their shoulders. Jeff Cunningham was brought in to be a spot starter and super-sub. Absolutely agree with your assessment of Dilly Duka, and I believe Rich Balchan could also be a break out player. This team could be very good, maybe not as good as NYRB and HOU in the East, but still a contender.
MLS Season Preview: Columbus Crew
It wasn't too long ago when the Columbus Crew was considered one of the premier teams in MLS, a perennial title contender. A good bet to add to its 2008 MLS Cup. Times have changed in Ohio, along with the roster. Guillermo Barros Schelotto has gone back to Argentina, Frankie Hejduk is back in ...

Happy Thanksgiving from SBI
Hello everybody. It is Thanksgiving Day, one of those rare days during the year when soccer goes on the backburner and there are no major games to watch (Well, unless you count the Mexican League playoff games being played today). American soccer fans have plenty to be thankful for this yea...
As a Crew fan, I'm a bit surprised with the Brian Carroll call-up. He is 29, but he's one of the better holding mids in MLS and has merited a look, even if he is incredibly far down on the huge center mid depth chart for the USMNT. I'm not surprised by Robbie Rogers' inclusion, and I couldn't be more excited that Eddie Gaven was included. Eddie is consistently a great midfielder in MLS (much better than Rogers) and is too often overlooked because of his lack of flair. I would keep giving him looks if I were Bradley. He is only 24, and I rate him on the same level as guys like Bedoya.
Agudelo, Ream and Bunbury among USA call-ups vs. South Africa
The U.S. Men's national team has called up an inexperienced squad loaded with youth for next week's friendly against South Africa (Wednesday, 2pm). Juan Agudelo, Teal Bunbury, Gale Agbossoumonde and Tim Ream are among the selections. Here is the squad: GK-Brad Guzan, Dom Cervi D- Clarenc...

The league is now 0 for 2. Should have been Ream and Rimando. If the league selects Henry as newcomer of the year, it has officially lost all credbility.
Ricketts named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year
Photo by ISIPhotos.com Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year on Wednesday morning, beating out Real Salt Lake's Nick Rimando and FC Dallas' Kevin Hartman. Ricketts was key to the Galaxy's run to the Supporters Shield, posting a team record 0.90 goa...
Chad Marshall for Defender and Javi Morales for MVP are my biggest snubs from the finalists.
MLS announces 2010 Awards finalists
By TRAVIS CLARK On the eve of the beginning of the 2010 MLS Playoffs, the finalists of the regular season awards were announced. A strong week for Chris Wondolowski continued, as the San Jose Earthquakes striker was one of three finalists for the MVP. He'll have to best FC Dallas playmaker Dav...
I think the whole RBNY turnaround has been a bit overplayed. I mean there have been major turnaround stories in the team (see Dane Richards), but they did build new stadium, hired a new coach, and bought Marquez, Lindpere, and Henry, as well as drafted a sharp young defender in Ream. Moreover, the East was considerably weaker than the West this year, with Columbus being the only quality side in the conference all year (minus recent poor form). It's not like the same team from last year turned it around. That being said, RBNY is a great success story for the league this year, but I want to see what they do in the playoffs.
Red Bulls complete improbable turnaround, clinch top seed with win
A year after enduring the worst season in the club's history, the New York Red Bulls have completed an incredible turnaround after beating New England on Thursday to clinch first place in the Eastern Conference. The Red Bulls posted a 2-0 win against the Revolution on Thursday night to secur...

USA vs. Poland: The Pre-Game Tailgate
The U.S. men's national team is in Chicago tonight to take on Poland in the first friendly since Bob Bradley was re-signed as U.S. head coach (8pm, Fox Soccer Channel). Tonight's match will likely be the first chance to see Jermaine Jones in a U.S. national team uniform, and should be the fir...
I'm sick of Warzycha. A team this deep and talented shouldn't be dropping results at a rate like this. Sack him!
Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew: Your Running Commentary
The Chicago Fire could see its playoff dreams dashed tonight unless it can hand the Columbus Crew a loss tonight when the Eastern Conference rivals square off at Toyota Park tonight (9pm, Direct Kick). The Crew will be looking to keep the pressure on the New York Red Bulls for first place i...
As a Crew fan, I would really like to give my vote to Schelotto. While in my humble opinion he is still a top 5 player in this league on his day, he may not even be the most valuable to his team this year, as Eddie Gaven and Chad Marshall have been more consistent throughout the year than any other Crew player, including Schelotto. GBS's lack of mobility has really been exposed this season. From there, I really like Seba Le Toux, but I can't vote for a player not in the playoffs. Ultimately the MVP should go to either Ferreira or Morales, and I lean Morales, because he is the driving force of who, again in my opinion, is the league's best team. Javier Morales, MLS MVP 2010.
Who is your MLS Most Valuable Player?

MLS Notes: Columbus can't host USOC final, Johnson honored again and more
By AVI CREDITOR The Columbus Crew might have the best Major League Soccer record among the four U.S. Open Cup semifinal teams, but even if they make the final, they won't be hosting the match. U.S. Soccer announced Thursday that the three possible venues for the U.S. Open Cup final are Qwest...

Sad that Crew Stadium can't host the Open Cup final...I mean it's not like Lamar Hunt built the stadium and the Open Cup bears his name or anything...Yet another example of the Crew getting thrown under the bus...take a look at mlssoccer.com's Power Rankings for this week: the league doesn't have the balls to back up its own team over a totally legitimate complaint about the bad call at Santos...they could have commented on the Crew's win over the Rapids or the fight they showed in Mexico and instead chose to take a shot at Crew fans, players, coaches, and beat writers who have rightfully complained about the overruled goal. I really hope that FCD plays the Crew in the MLS Cup final this year...What will the league and USSF do without their babies, NYRB and the Galaxy?

CONCACAF Champions League: Your Running Commentary

Columbus Crew vs. Philadelphia Union: Your Running Commentary
MLS action continues Thursday evening as the Columbus Crew travel to PPL Park to take on the Philadelphia Union (8 p.m., ESPN2/ESPN3.com). Philadelphia looks to build a winning tradition at their new home in Chester, Pa., and face a difficult challenge with the Crew visiting. The Union are c...
Glad to see Chad Marshall. He has cemented himself as the best centerback in MLS and deserves the call-up. I really like Omar Gonzalez and am disappointed not to see him here, but Marshall is a more dominant and polished player.
USA announces roster for Brazil friendly
The USA roster for next week's friendly has been released and it features some new faces as well as some familar ones, with 14 of the 18 players called in coming from the 2010 USA World Cup team. Landon Donovan, Tim Howard and Carlos Bocanegra are among the veterans, while Jermaine Jones and ...

Manchester United vs. Philadelphia Union: Your Running Commentary
It isn't often that first-year soccer teams get a chance to face off against a team as storied as Manchester United, but tonight is the Philadelphia Union's chance to step on the field with a legendary club. The Union plays host to Manchester United at Lincoln Financial Field tonight (7:30pm,...

Who would you like to see called up for USA/Brazil?
Photo by ISIphotos.com The U.S. men's national team saw its World Cup end less than a month ago, but time waits for no team and now it is just three weeks until the United States returns to the field to take on Brazil on August 10th at the new Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. The first post...
1. Renteria needs to start.
2. Eddie Gaven is having an awesome season, our MVP so far.
3. If Marshall can stay healthy, its time for him to go to Europe. For as good as Omar Gonzalez is, Chad Marshall is even better.
4. Schelotto was on, his usual maestro self.
5. Moffat made up for Wednesday with a solid performance.
6. Carroll has struggled all year, and I hope that his wonder-goal can boost his confidence.
7. It's about time Danny O made it back in the lineup.
8. Shaun Francis has a very bright future, and I hope it is in Columbus.
9. The Crew are just much better than NYRB. 5-1 on aggregate in two matches. We have a very deep bench, and with LAG and RSL playing on the same side of the playoff bracket (West) this year, I like the Crew's chances of playing in the Cup Final.
Columbus humbles lethargic Red Bulls
So much for there being a tight race for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Columbus Crew easily manhandled a weak-looking New York Red Bulls squad, 2-0, on Saturday night at Crew Stadium as goals from Emilio Renteria and Brian Carroll provided the difference in a match even more lop...
