Well, considering the wonderful deal he struck with Jeter, A-Rod, Posada, AJ Burnett, Weaver, Contreras, that Japanese pitcher, the big unit, etc. I think it is fine for him to gloat about the one expensive bullet he dodged.
And the Verbal Diarrhea Continues
Please explain to me why Brian Cashman felt it necessary to say this: "I actually had dinner with the agent to pretend that we were actually involved and drive the price up. The outfield wasn't an area of need, but everybody kept writing, 'Crawford, Crawford, Crawford, Crawford.' And I was like...
I gotta say I am nauseated by all the attention Posada got last night. The DH got a single (woo hoo!) with men in scoring position. Give the guy a medal. If it were Bernie Williams doing that we would just yawn because that is what is expected of a Yankee. Posada has been terrible all season and now he gets one key hit and he is seen as a new Mr October.
Credit Where Credit is Due
I simply don't have time for a proper tribute now or any time in the next week. I even have to give up my tickets to the Stadium tonight and tomorrow night thanks to work. But a few things strike me: First, as Rob Parker points out, Girardi and his coaches did a spectacular job managing a t...
The teams in the small market underinvestment spiral like the Florida Marlins still make money:

Teams can either focus on winning or focus on making money. The Marlins have been fairly competitive, have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball, very few fans at the games and make money even in seasons where they truly suck.
Hank Steinbrenner, TEA Partier?
We don't delve much into politics here — so many more important things to fight about, right? — but Hank Steinbrenner co-mingled baseball and the politics of economics in his discussion of revenue sharing, piggybacking somewhat on similar comments from the Red Sox ownership group: "At some poin...
All of the sudden it looks generous? It is way too generous. We don't pay players for past performance. Cano makes 9 million, can anyone say that the in the next three years Jeter will be worth more to the team than Cano?
Wisdom
Johnny Damon:"There is no way around it, older players are being looked at differently," he said. "But what a lot of people forget is that guys like me and Jeter, we came out at the same time and we are special players. If things need to get done on a baseball field, we get it done." All of a su...
The most telling thing about Giambi is that last year with the Yankees the opposing teams would put up these ridiculous fielding shifts and he wouldn't try to learn to pull the ball just to get a friggin' hit. He could have bunted on 20 times during the season easily, but no....all about swinging big.
A's Release Jason Giambi
The A's released Jason Giambi, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Before the season, the A's signed the 38-year-old slugger to a one-year deal with a club option for a second year. It pays Giambi a base salary of $4MM this year and gave the A's the option of a $1.25MM buyout or a $6...
