H1N1: I VACCINI NON SONO UGUALI PER TUTTI...(COME LA LEGGE): "INFLUENZA ‘A’: VACCINO SPECIALE PER I POLITICI IN GERMANIA (AGI) - Berlino, 19 ott. Massive French mechanical marionettes in Berlin: "Royal de Lux, the incredible French mechanical marionette street theatre company, performed in Berlin this week as part of a 20t anniversary celebration of the Berlin Wall's fall. The main performers were the massive Big Giant and Little Giantess, which Cory posted about back in June. The Big Picture has a breathtaking photo gallery of the performance, titled The Berlin Reunion. This stunning photo was taken by Philipp Guelland for AFP/Getty Images. 'The Berlin Reunion' at The Big Picture (Thanks, Kenny Montana!) Continue reading

Photos of uncomfortable chairs: " WebUrbanist has a fun roundup of chairs and sofas that you probably don't want to sit on. Among them, a cactus couch (it's not real, but still painful to imagine), the electric chair, and Tokujin Yoshioka's natural crystal chair, which I posted about back when I was guest blogging. Oh sit! The world's most uncomfortable chair designs Continue reading

Hitachi outs enterprise-grade, 15,000RPM Ultrastar drives: " Hitachi has released two new hard drives on Tuesday, both turning at the fastest-possible 15,000RPM design. Part of the Ultrastar series, this includes the company's first 2.5-inch drive with the extra speed, the C15K147, and the firm's fourth-generation 3.5-inch drive, the 600GB 15K600. Either has a 6Gbps SCSI (SAS) interface, though the latter can be had with a 4Gbps Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FCAL) interface as well. The 15K600 also has one third more the capacity of its predecessor while claimed to be 23 percent faster.... (Via MacNN | The Macintosh News Network.) Continue reading

The 2010 Nissan 370Z lineup gains a new convertible body style. The 370Z Roadster joins the coupe, which was redesigned for the 2009 model year. The 370Z convertible has a power soft top and heated-glass rear window. Like the coupe, the convertible comes in Base and Touring trim levels. Like the Base and Touring coupes, convertibles have a 332-hp 3.7-liter V6 engine that teams with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. > One question: WHEN THE HELL IS THIS CAR GOING TO BE AVAILABLE? > Sources: Nissan USA http://www.nissanusa.com/zroadster/?dcn=1 Z IS THE LAST LETTER... Business Intelligence with 1.3 Terabytes of in-memory Database: " I recently blogged about changes in the meaning of business intelligence and how we can better use it to support real-time decision making. This raised a lot of great comments. Larry Ellison made his own impact on this topic with a webcast to introduce the second generation Oracle/Sun Exadata 2.0. This was an early indication of what Oracle hopes to achieve with the Sun acquisition. It raised all the usual comments on this unhappy with the acquisition given the resulting monopoly it would give Oracle in databases, due to gaining control... Continue reading

Few have seen it – even standing still – but a report from the UK's Auto Express is already suggesting that the Bugatti 16C Galibier concept, shown to a select few at the company's factory in Molsheim, is set to receive the green light for production. The concept for succeeding the two-door, mid-engine Veyron offers a more conventional four-door, front-engine bodystyle with bragging rights that pale only in comparison to its record-breaking forbearer: the 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine would carry over, albeit detuned from its 1000+ hp output in the Veyron to "only" 800, while sources suggest that the Veyron's...
