Wile E. Coyote
Kobe is doing great. A couple nights ago she finally stepped into the big sister role with authority and protected Chevy from a coyote bigger than she was. I was working outside and she spotted the coyote across the street and let out a couple barks. Since she rarely barks I looked up to see what it was about. I put on her leash and we chased the coyote about 1/2 mile around the neighborhood before I could no longer maintain my sprint to keep up with Kobe and Wile E. She might have caught him if I wasn't holding... Continue reading

Kobe's Fear of Sticks
I tried to play tennis hockey with her, but, she was too scared of the stick. Needless to say, her terrible goalie skills led to a 12-0 blowout for me! She helped me dig the flower bed when I planted some gardenias the other day. Had to give her another bath after that one. She’s still nervous about the rain and we’ve been getting way more than normal in Jan and Feb. She paced around most of last night, but at least she’s not trying to jam herself under the bed anymore! Other than all that, life has been pretty... Continue reading

Kobe's Escavation
Kobe and Chevy have been getting along great and sometimes they sleep together, although not quite spooning yet! We leave them alone together all the time when we go out where dogs can’t without problem. Kobe has gotten a little jealous of Chevy’s toys, though. We’ve gotten her a Kong and some other things that she loves, but sometimes when Chevy is playing with his toys, she just has to stop what she’s doing and go take it from him. Chevy is just fat and lazy enough not to care in the least so he lets her do whatever she... Continue reading

Kobe doesn't like to be left out
Kobe did prove to still have the legs of a younger dog on Monday night. It was her first night without someone sleeping with her in the guest room (we're keeping the gate closed at night until we're sure her and Chevy are friends). She didn't wine or scratch the carpet. She just jumped over the gate! And it's pretty damn tall. When I was setting it up I thought there was no way she'd try. Imagine how much we freaked out at 5:27am when we heard the sound of a dog, complete with cone of shame, come flying over... Continue reading

Week 2 with Chevy
As for her and Chevy, we've stopped splitting them up so they can get comfortable with each other on their own terms. Kobe gets all excited now when she's around Chevy...her tail goes a million miles an hour and she sniffs him like crazy. Chevy is taking it like a champ and let's her do pretty much whatever sniffing she likes. So, that's good. I wouldn't call them best friends yet, but they're definitely hanging around each other much more often and the stare downs are almost non-existent. We let Kobe sleep in her bed with the gate open last... Continue reading

Day 1 with Chevy...
In Kobe and Chevy news, they napped together during a movie last night and in Jess' office while I was at the eye doctor today. They've touched noses and sniffed each other many times since you left. They're still pretty standoffish the majority of the time and when Chevy runs, Kobe can't help herself but to try to chase...But I think they're slowly getting more comfortable with each other being around. Continue reading

Day 1 in the Holterhaus Household-erhaus
Kobe is adjusting to life here real well. She's been taking her medicine morning and night and eating once a day with a little tuna. We've gone on some long walk/runs around the neighborhood and at the park (still no interest in geese, although we did see some domestic chickens walking around that piqued her interest for a second!). I took her out for a couple miles yesterday and by the end she was dragging ass, but happy. She and I weighed in at a combined 277lbs. Look for that number to be more like 255lbs in a couple months... Continue reading
