Shucks, guys - THANKS! I'm totally feelin' the love. RJ & Roxy, thanks for your encouragement! I'll have to figure out a way to say what I'm feeling, but you guys were the start of me thinking that racing is accessible to anyone who wants to do it. You guys rock and are so inspirational...but also down-to-earth and real. Thanks for that.

Faye & Gnat - thanks!!! I actually am ok with's just that I don't want to be pathetic about it! Ha! And if it's strategy or equipment issues, that's one thing, but if it's my own physical ineptitude and I am deluded in even thinking I can compete...I will be disappointed. Make sense? Btw, Faye - I think we all learned a ton on Saturday & I am really happy to have you guys to learn with! Sammy - Tell your Mama, tell your Auntie...

Wow! Congratulations on being back on the bike! 2,000 miles is commendable even when you don't have a challenge to overcome like you did. I'd love to hear more of your story, please keep in touch!

I can't decide which picture I like better! Both are awesome!
Oh yeah, pizza in a tent...NOT having to cook or work for food after a full day of cycling. Perfect!

I'm jealous - have only driven that road! Perhaps if more folks rode it on a bike, they'd put better conditions out there for bikes. Hmmmm...

Very FUN!!!! Awesome!
Caitlin - Spin classes are actually very fun and great training - it's a rare opportunity to pedal to fun music...and there are others around to egg you on. We've been having winter weather, too, so I haven't been on my bike in a week! Can't wait to ride!

RJ - I cannot wait to start my training with VeloGirls to get exactly this kind of good advice! Love the suggestions for fun ways to train - especially racing each other to the signs. Hmmm...that may be incorporated into my next ride...

Yeah, the people at a good bike shop actually SHARE the addiction - that's a good point! So how IS your Madone doing? ;-)

I think there are a lot of us out there, Kelly! :-) It does take some time to see how working your body to exhaustion makes it feel good, though. I think if more people realized it, we'd become a nation of exercise addicts! Ha - how cool would that be?! I like the "littering the trails with my stress" - mind if I borrow that?

Having a waterproof jacket is key for wet weather!! It's absolutely the difference between wet and shivering, and wet and hilarious. RJ, do you own a car? Just curious - you seem like the type (in a good way, of course!) to have jettisoned that kind of transportation.
RJ - Have wanted to watch this for a while, but just sat down...and am so glad I did! What a beautiful video. Your enthusiasm and creativity abound. It's a great tribute to your trip, and what a beautiful place our country can be.

Ha ha! It ended up (no pun intended) just fine - I had flats on, so I just stepped down. My yard has about enough room to fit my bike, and that's about it - no grass practice for me! Gotta be tough in this hood.

Oh, I love this!!! I think it's kinda fun to figure out how to get around sans car. And for sure, reading on a bus & getting a ride in beat commuting by car. Hands down. Enjoy!

Awesome, Mary! It's amazing what kind of weather becomes acceptable when you have the right clothes, huh? And thanks for the reminder to get some wool socks. It's not quite as cold here, but I like my feet toasty too.
Thanks, William! I agree - you pay for what you get. And kids' bikes are no exception!

Stephanie, it IS fun! I am always willing to go mountain biking - so if you want to ride, just let me know!!

At first glance, this looks like the bike is lying on a bed of rose petals!! Gorgeous picture of a gorgeous bike.

Yup, paying it forward is always good! Or "what goes around comes around" or "you get what you pay for"...wait, that one doesn't work here. :-) I love hearing about all the good stuff people do, just don't think we hear about it often enough. Anyone else have a good story???

Hey Caitlyn, My husband has a light on his commuter that is attached to a generator hub - NO batteries! As long as the wheels are moving (and for a minute or two after, for those stop lights), the light shines BRIGHTLY. It's a Schmidt SON hub. Check it out!

Aha! I noticed when I saw you at Edilyn's, but didn't get a chance to chat about it with you. Congrats! Glad I'll have a friendly face there with me!

I turned positively green with envy while reading this!!!!! How cool. We have lots of bikes-for-kids charities out here. Perhaps there's something like that near you?

Nice work, RJ! Perhaps I will sign up for a class near me. I just wish that this was a required class to get a driver's license - wouldn't that be awesome???
