Did you see that? That was time flying by, I sneezed and this little munchkin is suddenly a real live boy! I can't put into words how much I LOVE this human. Every day he amazes me. He is caring beyond words (almost TOO caring), he loves to just be with me "mommy, I love hanging out with you.", me too, bud, me too. When he was born I was so curious on what type of little boy he would be, I had no clue how he would act or play or love. His most favorite thing to do is... Continue reading

I was just having a conversation with my coworkers about working and how it affects the family life. I haven't blogged in some time for many reasons, I have 3 kids, I have zero time, I forgot my password and now I'm working. But today I felt inspired to talk about work. Not exactly what I do, but the actual act of leaving my house form 9-5 everyday and working away from my kids. This is a contraversal subject to many moms. Which makes sense to me because moms are very protective of how they raise their children and also... Continue reading

A year ago today I was packing up my life. The life that I knew was about to completely change into something unrecognizable. I was aware this change was going to happen, but when it did happen I didn't nearly know how it would feel. A year ago today I was a mom of one darling 2 year old. I lived in Chicago. I had a part-time job at Galter LifeCenter. I spent my weekends running with that 2 year old in his stroller, and my nights having friends over for wine before my much earlier bedtime. Today, I live... Continue reading

This blog has been a long time coming. I first started writing about the challenging first couple months we had, filled with protein allergies, ppd, and overall adjustments. Then the Paris attacks happened and I just couldn't post a blog about all night crying bouts when Syrians were struggling to get out of their country alive and people sitting in cafes in Paris were being gunned down. I then began a blog about my disgust about all these things and how people on social media were using it as excuses to project their own political agendas. But, that still didn't... Continue reading

I have been wanting to blog about my baby shower and the end of my pregnancy for some time, then as the day grew closer it became harder and harder to sit in one spot for too long, let alone type with my crippling carpel tunnel. So I decided to hold off on the blog (and the millions of thank you notes) until I had the babies and these symptoms improved. Good news, the symptoms have greatly improved, I feel like a new person! Bad news - a new person who gets very little sleep, has just enough time in... Continue reading

Wanna know my two new favorite things Stetson says now? The first is "ohhhhh, I feel the babies moving" after anytime he eats or drinks something sweet. It's so sincere and stupid cute, I can't stand it. The other is when I do something to his liking and he looks at me and goes "good boy mommy", although he is fully aware I'm a girl, he hears "good boy" so much with him and the dog. Hysterical. So since the last time I blogged not much has happened to us. You know, except for moving, buying a house, getting more... Continue reading

It seems funny "going home". Since I left Cleveland so many other places have become home to me. Although Ohio is so instinctively familiar it has always had a feeling of "home" no matter how long it has been. I remember packing up nearly 10 years ago, my father and I getting on a plane for California. Having never crossed the Mississippi before and doing it for the first time with the idea of living there - indefinitely. Most certainly my most ballsy move to date, and one that changed my life forever. San Francisco has a very special and... Continue reading

2015 is 13 days in and I can not believe how much my life has changed. I made a New Years resolution to "not sweat the small stuff", in an effort to achieve this I decided to write a sort of mantra on how to maintain sanity this year, which will most likely be one of the biggest years of my life. First a little background. On December 1st I decided to stop birth control with the idea of possibly getting pregnant in the New Year. Two weeks, and one pregnancy test later I had what I thought was the... Continue reading

I try to keep my blog(s) more positive, although sometimes I just feel like complaining, so here it goes. Since becoming a mom (today we are going to focus on being the mom of a toddler) so many things have started rubbing me the wrong way about how people react to my toddler and his moods. So in no particular order below is a list of my stranger pet peeves: 1. "He's tired": Often times when running on empty trying to get everything done, my kid gets over worked or overscheduled, it's life, it happens to all of us. And... Continue reading

Today my family did something we rarely ever do (unless someone is sick), and that was nothing. Well, kinda nothing. I worked this morning and Stetson had his swimming class with Brad, but after that we all went home, napped and then sat around and read or watched movies or colored. It was amazing. This might not sound like that amazing of a thing, but for me it is. Immediately after getting off work I'm trying to think of what we can do as a family. Go on a walk? head to the mall? grab lunch? But Stetson got his... Continue reading

Dear Summer, As I look out my window on the blanket of freshly fallen snow, all I can think about is you. Your warmth, and beauty. You were so good to me and I don’t feel like I fully took the time to appreciate you. When you were around I would go outside and just be outside, like it was no big deal. Winter makes me suck in my breath once outside and wish more than anything I could be inside as soon as possible. When you left all those months ago, I saw it happening, like it always does.... Image's that time of year again. The time of year in which I get excited by just about anything. You know the first day I'm allowed to start playing christmas music non-stop (thanksgiving), turkey cooking, friends gathering, road trips, presents, Santa, NYE, snow, the list goes on and on. With that thought in mind I figured I would do a brief update while it's still naptime and before I go months without updating because I am far too busy having the best holiday season EVA! I know it's been months since a real update on Stets, and to fill you... Continue reading

I apologize for not posting as of late, but working part time while maintaining my full time job as "mom" has taken up much of my free time. Also, my last blog post was eaten by the computer demons and the frustration from that prevented me from engaging for some time (seriously, what blog site doesn't have auto-save anymore??), anywho, I'm finally over the loss of my last post and willing to move on. I know I need to get a good post updating all you alls on Stets and how he's doing (he's flippin' CUTE - and SASSY and... Continue reading

Today I keep reflecting on where I was exactly one year ago. At 9am I reflected on the fact that I was probably crying:) I cried alot those last few weeks. I wanted to see and hold you so badly I couldn't stand the anticipation! Well that, and the fact that I could not breath, you had simply run out of room. At this time one year ago I was certainly in the hospital, I was being induced because my wonderful doctor determined you were running low on amniotic fluid, therefore I would need to get you out ASAP -... I've never been a person who can easily toss guilt aside. I remember when I was younger and someone left the refrigerator open my father would shout around the house, "who did this?" "we have energy bills to pay!" and everyone responded with "it wasn't me!" While honestly I didn't think it was me, for some reason I would sit there with this guilt that maybe it was me and I forgot. Or maybe I walked past the door and didn't close it. Was it my fault? As a mother this guilt has grown ten-fold. I feel guilty about EVERYTHING!... Continue reading

At just over 10 months, Stetson is really coming into his own personality. He has various likes, and many dislikes and even a few favorites. Here are a list of some of his most treasured and favorite items: 1 First and absolutely foremost - Mr. Monkey Face. Ok, we just call him "monkey", but without him I'm not sure Stetson would know what to do at bed and nap time. This is one of two monkeys. The first one was purchased by my very dear friend Maureen Wagner. When he was a newborn I desperately forced it on him in... Continue reading

I feel like for the past several, several months the only thoughts I have composed were thoughts on Stetson. Now don't get me wrong, he is ever changing and the main focus of my life now, but that doesn't mean that Brad and I are left just staring at him all day. We do things, and we are more than just parents, although sometimes that idea seems foggy to me, I think it is very important for us to take time to focus on ourselves as a couple and as individuals. This is harder than it sounds. I have to... Continue reading

Yep, it's official.. WHAT? No, not that! It's official that I am entirely and uterly obsessed with my baby - wouldn't you be? The past couple of months have been filled with development for this little guy. From getting "SO BIG" to sprouting two new chompers, my baby boy is getting less and less baby everyday, and it all seemed to happen overnight. Here he is with his new friend Ollie - the cuteness is taking over your computer screen - be prepared! About a month ago, I went on a much needed girl's trip to Key West with all... Continue reading

Being 7 months old sure is a busy time around these parts. Here's a little sneak peek into an average day in Stetson's life - from his point of view (if you can handle that amount of corniness!) Boy was yesterday filled with adventure! I saw so many new things - and what I learned! Forget about it! I learned so much I could fill a very small book. As most of you know Chicago has been under the spell of mean winter storm the past few days, which means Mom and I aren't able to go out and run... Continue reading

So our little Stetso doesn't turn 6 months until next week, but who are we kidding, we all know I won't get around to another blog by then, so let's squish in the New Year and his 6 month blog into one post. This holiday season was clearly a special one to us. We decided to go to Indiana to visit the entire Schaefer (and Bull Schaefer) crew at Aunt Becky's house, then head home to Chicago for a quiet Christmas night and New Year, only to hop back in the car and get to Cleveland for little Christmas. Our... Continue reading

SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED in the past couple months!!! Stetson was baptized, thanksgiving, rolling over, holiday parties, grandparents visit, new jobs!! Where do I begin? I will try to keep this brief, but our past couple months have FLOWN by!! Honestly, I remember when Stetson turned 3 months old and I thought - wow, that was a loooooong month, rewarding and amazing, but long. Since then, I blinked and my world has gone into fast forward mode! I can't explain it, but everytime someone asks me how old Stetson is I am "this close" to saying "3 months" before I... Ok, I'm well aware I still need to post my 4 month blog for Stetso, but while we wait let's enjoy our Thanksgiving photos:) Brad and I decided this would be our first thanksgiving ever that would be spent with just "us". Typically we host thanksgiving for friends and family in the area, but this year we intended to go to Cleveland to celebrate. However, with Stetson being so young, and Brad having to travel for work we blew it all off and decided we could make dinner for just the two of us and provide our other loves with... From the moment I had Stetson I kept hearing "just wait 3 months", or "oh man you're not gonna believe he's even the same baby (as a newborn) when he's 3 months" and "as soon as he's 3 months it will be totally different." and I gotta say, I kinda agree. Don't get me wrong, no magical switch was flipped, I still have my occassionally fussy little boy, but I have so much more too! He's gradually sleeping through the night (I get a night here and there), he smiles, and just today he started giggling alot. On top of... Continue reading

3 years and my stomach is all messed up thinking about it. Not messed up in a "I might puke" way, but messed up in the "SANTA'S COMING" way. I can not believe that it has only been 3 years since I promised to never leave you. I can not believe that has already been 3 years since I promised to always love you. I can not believe how much we have accomplished together, while at the same time how much we have evolved and changed all the while remaining best friends. By the way, have you seen what we... I came across an issue where scattered ruby source files had non-ASCII characters. If you're asking how problems arising from this could have occurred in the first place, you're not wrong in thinking it's a WTF. In any case, rather than tracking these offending files down one by one (which... Continue reading
