Thanks for the kind words, Shayla. All the best to you as well!
As we’ve discussed previously in this space, identifying your audience before you attempt to reach its members is simply a focused example of employing Purposeful Efficiency. However, finding the structure and keywords that catch and hold the attention of the search ’bots is only half the proverbial battle (shout out to G.I. Joe for this bit of pop-culture banality). Far too often, in keeping the ’bots engaged, website developers and copywriters forget to cater to the real audience: their fellow human reader. Continue reading

In sum: improving on weaknesses is a noble pursuit, but to the extent a unit, department, company—even country or species—can identify and take optimal advantage of the strengths of its individual members, the better off everyone in that community will be. Continue reading

Chancellor, was your father a carpenter? Thanks for the insights: I, too, am seeing more and more non-mainstream evidence that the way we often do things nowadays, from building to packaging to just-plain-consuming, is not only destructive, but not optimal in ANY real sense. Here's hoping we are able to embrace a better way. And a little nudge, too. Darya, wouldn't it be eye-opening if we had a non-product meter that we could carry around with us to measure all the stuff we burn through? Much like the newish smart meters being implemented for residential utilities, but for our persons...I think we'd be astounded and ashamed.

Dear Mr. VG, Though me and good ol' Mr. Thesaurus have a close and trusting relationship, in this instance, I assure you that "vicissitudes" is all my own. It narrowly beat out "oscillations" and "undulations" in a tight, three-horse race. As for the rubber cement sniffin', I thankfully missed that boat; though I did go through a phase of chewing on plastic sandwich bags for some reason...go figure. Sincerely, CC

Good call, Mark. My entire life, my "next week" has been most people's "this week"; I can't tell you how many ice cream socials I've missed because of this... But in all seriousness, the cost/benefit of conveying things clearly to others is usually a no-brainer [insert rant about signaling while driving here]. It can, however, be tough to remember all the time, so I appreciate your contributions to clarity!

Purposeful Efficiency requires that you ask yourself what, specifically, you are trying to accomplish, and whether your current course of action is a direct means to achieve this end. Implementing Purposeful Efficiency is as much a personal growth tool as it is a method for improving professional performance... Continue reading

Many people overlook a simple but meaningful point in their daily conversations and e-mails: Communication only occurs when your audience receives and comprehends your message. Short of that, you might as well be talking to yourself; and, often, you are... Continue reading
