Phones at gigs
By BW I can't be the first to write about this, but one of my pet hates at the moment is phones at gigs. Does everyone need to take home a 60 second clip of fuzz and noise? The sea of phones that are raised into the air the minute the band walks on stage would suggest they do. Just once I'd like to watch a band live without having to watch them on the mobile phone screen of some moron in front of me. Is that too much to ask? And don't even get me started on people moaning... Continue reading

Normal service will resume shortly...
By BW It's been a few days, and with nothing grabbing me as potential blogging material I thought I'd spend a few words on pretty much nothing. Well it's either that or X-Factor. And we're both sick of that debate. Issue 3 is coming on nicely - loads of exciting things going in it, but we wouldn't want to give away too much would we. Come to our night at Riffs Bar on the 18th of the month if you're local. You may never again see acoustic lovelies and hardcore brutality side by side in this way. Jolly good, it's... Some uncharacteristic support of R'n'B...
By KH I've never been the biggest fan of R'n'B, but I do have to write in favour of Jay Sean. Bozley isn't happy with the Chicken Little-esque 'Down'. But I have to say I don't hate it, as far as they go it isn't a terrible tune, and I think it's quite lovely to hear an R'n'B singer actually being a proponent of monogamy. Plus, I can't overlook the line; "Indefinitely, Not Probably and honestly, I'm down like the economy." That's just straight up genius. Continue reading

More whinging on about R'n'B
By BW I know I'm going on a bit now but the latest release from this 'Jay Sean' chap is just something else. So baby don't worry, you are my only, You won't be lonely, even if the sky is falling down, You'll be my only, no need to worry, Baby are you down down down down down, Down, Down, Baby are you down down down down down, Down, Down, Even if the sky is falling down Now come on. I can't be the only person who thinks that sounds like the plot of Chicken Lickin'. Continue reading

HE HELPED ME... (but apparently meanwhile, somebody was receiving help of another kind)
By KH I went to see Saw VI this past weekend, a film series many believe to have become tired and ran it's course. I don't think it should be dismissed in this way, as although relying heavily on the grotesque and macabre visualisations, it has an intelligence behind it, and a storyline that is completely immersive and encapsulating, if not a little confusing at times. On top of this, although choosing a controversial way of forwarding it, they all do have a very valid point to put across. This entry focusing on the errors in the US health system,... Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn...
By BW Have you heard this abomination yet? I thought what attracted people to R'n'B was the alleged glamour of the operation. Apparently all that 'freakin wit u' etc etc essentially boils down to aspiring to a threesome in a Holiday Inn. Rather you than me. (It all seems like a very positive advertisement for the re-introduction of castration as punishment, especially for those who still believe that being 'a gangster' is a good thing. Yes, fair enough, it does look like a lot of fun. I've seen Bugsy Malone, and those pie fights look hilarious, but still. No. But... Continue reading

I heart colouring-in books
By BW I really like colouring-in books. They regress me to my childhood innocence and are one of my favourite secret hobbies. You may have a secret hobby. It's the thing you spend hours a week doing but would never consider writing in the 'Interests' section of your Facebook page, for fear of looking like a bit of a cock. Anyway, I encourage you to try mine. Secret hobby I mean, not cock. Oh, and maybe we'll publish our own one day. Continue reading

Dear Readers...
By KH I find it amazing how the idea of music as well as universally uniting people, also has the power to cause such animosity and hatred amongst them aswell. Although influenced by, and occassionally influencing the other factors music is generally free from Race, Religion and Politics. Music like Hip-Hop is and has been pioneered by white artists and country music by black musicians. This is by no means a new concept, what else was Elvis doing if not rehashing African-American blues music, some would go as far as saying he quite literally purloined it, putting an all-american (and... JOHN CUNDY FOR MAYOR!
By KH We are pleased to announce that we are finally launching our John Cundy for mayor campaign. For those of you who don't know who John Cundy is, he is the mastermind behind the biting expose of the 90s Wiltshire music scene (see 'a little place we call home'). We believe a man with such passion and fire back then, could have only intensified over time, and thus is the perfect candidate to take control and steer this town to glory. Show your support by pre-ordering one of these exclusive ragdoll t-shirts that have gained so much support from... Continue reading

Really?!
By KH I just read this and I don't know whether to believe it or it's some very very late April fools prank... "Swedish people have discovered a grim new way of culling nuisance wild rabbits - by burning them in their thousands to heat their homes. Animal rights activists have launched a furious attack against the practice, claiming that domestic pets are also being rounded up, shot and incinerated. Anna Johannesson, from the Society for the Protection of Wild Rabbits, said: 'Those who support the culling of rabbits think it's good to use the bodies for a good cause.... Continue reading

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
By KH It seems elementary that a film can not transcend the imagination and will of its director, but when one is charged with as much power as this is, it really takes on a life of its own. I think it can be said that as well as being incredibly beautiful, this film is a little bit insane in its own right. Going in, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard stories about the film being unfinished at the time of Heath’s tragic death, and how it had been finished with a myriad of his peers... Continue reading

I lol'd. - KH
Dear Muse, Please sod off.
By BW Look, as a general rule, I don't get annoyed about music. However annoying it's supposed to be. I don't even mind Lady Gaga, The Ting Tings or Lily Allen. I just don't get annoyed about music. That has all changed today though, as at half two in the morning I find myself trading in valu...

Annoying may slide back into fashion.
By KH Remember that mildly funny/disturbingly shocking video series from a few years back 'salad fingers'? Well apparently David Firth, the man behind those, isn't dead or lost at sea or anything, and he's still making videos. Like this darkly funny and worryingly accurate portrayal of the music scene. Infiniti and beyond.
By KH I am so happy with Infiniti's new marketing campaign, the 'not equals to' series of adverts. This is partly because it's a very clever way of showing that Infiniti are reinventing the preconceived notions behind the coupe. Mainly though, it's because we live in a world where everything has to be explained in very p-l-a-i-n e-n-g-l-i-s-h to comply with the dawn of the dumb, and this company has actually decided to put something out that requires a little bit of thought. I'm impressed. Continue reading

Lagerfeld's Hay-Day
By ELK There's not much that makes me crave a bit of English country-side quite like a few tweeds and plaids on the catwalk. This week I am definitely feeling a bit 'heritage' and full of farmyard animal love, thanks to Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel whose models tramped round a brilliant faux-barn in Paris. I just love how the country life that so few of us English-folk lead is assumed typically British in fashion. It's one of my favourite looks actually, and the preppy English farm look can often be embodied on the high street in the form of a... Continue reading

MOBOs
By KH I'm pretty confused by the MOBO results. I didn't watch them on friday but I heard those who performed put on a good show, Reggie did an acceptable job of hosting and that on the whole it wasn't too bad. That's not the confusing part. What leaves me completely in the dark however, is that apparently Peter Andre was the back stage insider. Now i'm not sure how English via Australian via Greek, qualifies him as an expert on music of black origin, but also i'm not sure how anything he has ever done qualifies him to be... Continue reading

Here's three chords and a grand. Now book your own shit punk band.
By BW I got an email from the Towers of London booking agent the other day. You know, the glam punk ones with that idiot from Big Brother. We'll, I thought. No one could possibly want to spend money to go see this shit could they? Intrigued, I asked what they were going out for. "Upwards of a grand" I was told. All I can think is that there's gonna be a lot of out of pocket promoters up and down the country after this little tour. Continue reading
