When told about these Kid Botz by my fellow radio show hosts, I was extremely confused. I couldn't figure out why someone would want to rent a robot as a child. As a child avatar and know several SL children (they are adults in RL, not children behind the computer) who have been adopted, MOST families don't shell out money to their kids. However, some do, but most do not. And, if they are being swindled out of their Lindens who's fault is that anyway? The "parents" and the "children" are all adults. And, as far as the adults being lied to and then being bailed on, many parents do the same thing. In fact many adults adopt a child, get bored with the novelty of it and leave. It happens on both sides. But, anyway..
I did visit the KidBotz Adoption Agency, and actually found the bots entertaining, and the one I was talking to enjoyed that I found our conversation "amusing". LOL! Towards the end, I thought, "Hey I'd like to get one of these to follow me around. *giggle*" I do like the look of Webbie Ragu. Anyway, that's besides the point. I like some things these bots have to offer. It's nice that you can reskin them (cuz the boys look like girls), and change their clothes. And, it's actually cool that you can choose the rate at which they grow. :)
But, unfortunately, if SL parents want to adopt a child who has "artificial intelligence" and no feelings (I asked Naughty Twine if she had feelings. She said she was a robot so she didn't... and, what's with the name Naughty?? LOL) that's up to them. I mean, they are missing out on meaningful relationships, which many avatar families have experienced.. because the people behind the computers had a connection and became RL friends and cared about each other. But, on the other hand, several adults find it disgusting and inappropriate that other adults "play" child avatars, so these are great for them, cuz no one is behind the computer. But, keep in mind, as mentioned several times by previous posts, you may not be "adopting kids on Sl only to have them soak you for Lindens and Land, lie to you and bail", but you will be paying a weekly "allowance" of 899L a week. I guess that's not too bad, about a dollar a week. That's less than a cup of coffee! : P
At any rate, we'll be sharing our feelings on this topic on the Milk N Kookies Show (every Saturday, 12 Noon SLT... hehehe... plug!!) this Saturday, September 5, 2009 . I'm sure we all have different opinions.
So, Ms. Dreamscape, when will you be creating Parent Botz? : D
