I have a friend who works on a farm in Northern CA... she says tanker trucks just pull up to rivers in rural areas and pump out what they want. Nobody catches them. Water rustling.... that will be one result of a rise in water prices. And there are a lot of places in rural CA where someone could steal water straight out of the river. Her river is one of the last pristine salmon rivers as well, so. Double whammy.

When Malcolm Wallop was our Senator I sent him a letter that disagreed with him on gun control. He sent me back a form letter that was pretty generic and condescending so I wrote him back another letter telling him he wasn't listening and his publicity photo they used in the Laramie Boomerang made him look like Doc Brown from Back to the Future.. he changed his picture. Win. : /

when I lived down by Beardstown, IL, we had a local diner that specialized in carp. Boned, deep-fried - it was dang good. I thought tiger shrimp were already in the market? And I agree, the tragedy of the commons solution is elegant. And tasty.

When I am visiting a city I generally check out the brewpubs. It's (almost) never my primary reason for visiting a city but knowing there is good eats and drinks awaiting sure helps my desire to go.

ok. I'm confused. I read "playa" and thought about Burning Man. Given what I've learned there, I think there's lots more to be said on questionable assumptions about what constitutes a successful education....

I'm not sure what bothers me more, that we would consider dosing the general public, or that we are inadvertently already doing it.
