Savannah, Ga.. Quiet Beauty
Savannah, GA Information by Rough Guides American towns don't come much nicer than SAVANNAH, seventeen miles up the Savannah River from the ocean, on the border with South Carolina. The appealing Historic District, ranged around Spanish-moss-swathed squares, formed the core of the original city, and today boasts examples of just about every architectural style of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, while the atmospheric cobbled waterfront on the Savannah River, key to the postwar economy, is edged by towering old cotton warehouses. Savannah was founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe as the first settlement of the new British colony of Georgia.... Continue reading

The Sweet South - Charleston, SC
Charleston, SC Information by Rough Guides Its been a few years since I've been to this "Song of the South". Charleston is one city you must see. It has to be one of the most beautifully kept cities. Here is a little more about the finer details of the town: CHARLESTON, one of the finest-looking cities in the US, today spreads way beyond its original confines on the tip of a peninsula at the confluence of the Ashley and Cooper rivers, roughly one hundred miles south of Myrtle Beach and north of Savannah, Georgia. It's a compelling place to visit,... Continue reading

Monterey, Ca... God's Wonder Never Ceases
Monterey, CA Information by Rough Guides (borrowed for this post) Named by the Spanish merchant and explorer Vizcaino in 1602, MONTEREY was not colonized until 1770, founded as the military and admini-strative center of a territory that extended east to the Rockies and north to Canada (with a non-native population of less than seven thousand). By the mid-nineteenth century era of the US takeover and the Gold Rush, Monterey had become a forgotten backwater, hardly affected by the fresh waves of California immigration. Impressive vernacular colonial buildings now stand unassumingly in the compact town center, within a few blocks of... Continue reading

A gem hiding in Frankfort Ky: The Salato Center
Tucked right off the beaten path in central Ky, the Salato Center and Game farm are a slice of Kentucky you don't want to miss. It's totally free, open 6 days a week and so much fun. Inside you will find live exhibits of many of Ky's home grown best plant and wild life. There are two stocked fishing lakes, one for kids only! Here you can see live buffalo, bobcats, bears and even bald eagles! I had the week off to help with the kids while my wife recovers from her surgery. After a day at the Salato Center... Have You Ever Wanted to Make a Phone Call Under Water
You have got to be kidding me... Flipping thru the sky mall catalog on the plane is certainly entertaining... Sometimes I see some cool stuff.... Like this Christmas Story board game... But there are also the. Things that just blow my mind... Like the underwater cell phone.... Or the airplane lap pillow.... 2 questions... Why have I NEVER seen one of these contraptions? How'd they find some one to pose for the ad? Funny stuff... Get online at skymall.com and check some of this stuff out! Continue reading

Just breath takin... the River Walk in downtown San Antonio... the architecture will keep you ogling for hours, the people watching could never be more fun, and oh, the restaurants and bars... the River Walk has it all... and this is just in a 20 square block area... the city of San Antonio has so much more... Be early for your flights! But use common sense!
Ok... so I remember when all this new security came into play after 911. Its good I think. I'd rather take the time to make sure I am safe and get where I am going. Too many precious ones at home to take that risk. So I remember the rule of being there 2 hours early for your flight. Does that still apply for the first flight of the day? I mean, the desk to check my bags doesn't even open until 1 hour before my flight. Early morning flights may not apply. Do the math and it could save... Continue reading

Instant Idiots... just add water!
Driving back from Memphis yesterday it was nasty. It was raining cats, dogs and small cattle most of the way home. I have but one simple question: Do the crazy drivers sit at home praying for rain so they can go out and play???? I saw a few off the side of the road, one spin out right in front of me, but mostly I saw crazy careless driving. A Yaris tailgating a semi truck at 75 mph, no more than 8 feet between them. Don’t they know that Yaris’ slide??? Hit the brakes on a Yaris at 75 mph... Continue reading

Monday night in Memphis at the Saucer
I was in Memphis this week... Monday night to be exact... Wow.. The Flying Saucer was a treat. Located in Cordova, Tn just outside Memphis…. 200 beers on tap and a fantastic sports bar feel… Monday night was $2.75 pints night… Gotta love that… Had my first Kolsch beer and really enjoyed it… But couldn’t stay long… Wanted to get back to the room to watch Monday night football… And having to work at 6 am doesn’t mix well with $2.75 pints!! Enjoy the Saucer next time you are in Memphis. Or I hear they have a few across the... Continue reading

Favorite Toy... hmmm
What was your favorite childhood toy? I'd have to go with the Strange Change Machine... it was an awesome toy... and oh so safe.. a hot plate with a plastic dome over it and I put my little pelletized cubed monsters in there and watched them grow into creatures from outter space... then I'd use the tweezers (yeah right.. like I could find them) and put the monster into the crusher block maker vice and squeeze them back down into a cube... this had to be done before they cooled to below 150F so they would still smoosh.... All in... Continue reading
