This is a continuation of my last post: Here's how I feel about being on the other side of the lens: It's weird. I am so much more comfortable as a photographer. So, trying to produce images for my blog and Instagram is challenging. (Disclosure: For 20 years, I have been represented by The Campbell Agency. "Modeling" for a client is a different story. Note to self: Get new headshots. See! It's not easy being on both sides of the lens!) When I am behind the camera, I instinctively know how I want to frame the shot or think of... Continue reading

For those of you who have known me for a long time, you know that I have been a photographer since I was 12. Literally. I have had a camera in hand for most of my life, beginning with a Kodak Brownie Bullet that my mom gave me when I was 8-years-old. I still have it. Sometimes people will ask me if I have ever shot film. REALLY?! In high school we shot 35mm and 120 mm twins-lens reflex Yashicas, the latter the kind you looked down into the top of the camera to focus. Those produced the prettiest images,... Continue reading

I don't need a ton of stuff. In fact, I don't want a ton of stuff. I am constantly cleaning out my closet and my home, getting rid of things, especially since the 5 children are grown and out of the house. I don't like clutter. It makes me a little crazy. I dream of empty closets, cabinets, and drawers! (Although, I did admit to owning a jeans "collection" in my last post, but they are neatly hanging in my closet, color coordinated, and I plan on wearing all of them. Those I don't wear over the next year are... Continue reading

Just a short while ago, in the not too distant past, nary a printed garment existed in my closet. Solids were my menu of choice. News Flash: I'm trying to break out of my clothing cubicle! Actually, my closet was only khakis and white tees for the better part of the 80's and 90's, then I slid into a black and grey mood for the late 90's and early 2000's, then color, and now prints. I even bought floral dresses this year, but I'll save that for another post. Woo Hoo! Here I am wearing a tiny-print, silk button-down shirt... Continue reading

I am going to make a closet confession: I own 39 pairs of jeans. Literally. I just counted. I organized them by color, too. I possess a rainbow of hues, beginning with the obligatory blue jeans, then black jeans, grey jeans, white jeans, tan jeans, green jeans, turquoise jeans, plum jeans, pink jeans, yellow jeans, and even RED jeans. I'm sure there are a ton of women and girls out there who have far more than my jean count, but the issue is not that I have a jeans obsession, rather that I'm not a fan of wearing jeans, but... You know how sometimes you read something, and it just stays with you? Luckily, when I was about 17-years-young, I read an article in Seventeen magazine about the importance of wearing sunscreen for anti-aging and preventing skin cancer. Ironically, I was probably lying by the local pool, wearing baby oil or Hawaiian Tropic ZERO, the one with NO SPF. Literally, from that point on, not only did I begin wearing sunscreen and frequently a hat, but avoiding prolonged periods in the sun. Later on, I remember my kids, while on vacation yelling, "Mom, get in the pool!" Or "Get in... Continue reading

You know you have bought something extremely cool when your sartorially keen and exceptionally chic NYC daughter gives you a nod of fashion approval. Mine recently gave me an enthusiastic Like on my fashion Instagram when I wore something she had had her eye on! And this green Moto-jacket in buttery-soft lambskin by Veda, purchased at Nordstrom, was just that item. Honestly, I couldn't get it off my mind the first time I laid my own eyes on it. I thoroughly love the deep verdant hue, and the quality is impeccable. I plan on wearing it with not only other... Continue reading

Do you like to mix patterns in your wardrobe? I think it's a fun and playful way to extend your wardrobe. Here I paired blue striped pants from Reformation with a tiny print, Italian, tailored shirt by Fil Noir. Why it works. First of all, the color. I was excited when I found these pants and couldn't wait to get home to see if the blues were compatible. They were spot on. Secondly, it's reminiscent of menswear, and the tailored, mix and scale of stripes and patterns is common. Additionally, the Hermes scarf provides a playful nod to a man's... Continue reading

A couple of years ago I was hired to photograph a wedding in Joshua Tree, California, and I became smitten with Palm Springs and the surrounding desert area. I adore the mid-century architecture and vibe of the city, accentuated by palm trees and surrounded by the San Jacinto Mountains with their ever-changing colors and shadows from sunrise to sunset. For the past three years, we have rented the same home at the western foothills of the mountains, in a neighborhood famous for the Elvis Presley estate. Our Los Angeles based kids have joined us on these occasions, and we cook... Continue reading

Here's what I love about today's fashion: Anything goes. We can wear white after Labor Day, mix florals with geometrics, and slip into sneakers with a silk top. With the wide variety of cool kicks out there, not just joggers, which can also be fashionable, it's possible to find the right pair of tennies to fashionably mix things up. Here I chose to step things down with my Helmut Lang silk top and grey tuxedo-style cropped pant by Gilmar Lab by adding these fun silver, metallic sneakers by Mira Mikati. (The mock turtle-neck of the top has a surprise tie... Continue reading

People (often Uber and taxi drivers) often ask me if I like living in Dallas. My response, "It's a great place to fly out of!" Of course, we have a great life in the Big D (does anyone really call it that anymore?), but given that most of our grown children now live in New York City, the Los Angeles area, and San Francisco, Dallas provides an awesome hub to fly back and forth, coast to coast, with a respite in between to get my bearings, unpack and repack, and say hello to the menagerie of animals we have adopted... Do you have a style icon or two? I can't get over how beautiful Jennifer Lopez looks in her winning style. Sure, she has always been a beautiful girl, but lately she is stunning. I couldn't get over the dazzling red dress and the glowing make-up she appeared in on the premier episode of World of Dance. JLo wore an eye-catching, flirty Valentino dress, that appears to have sold out on Farfetch. (Perhaps there are several other would-be Jenny-From-The-Blocks out there who can afford the designer dress price-tag.) Inspired by the look, I found the "Save The Date" red lace... Continue reading

This playful, striped dress from Lulus knocks it out of the ballpark, and you will hit a homer if you run and buy it NOW! It's on sale for $29! I went major league with Chanel sunglasses from Goo Goo Eyes Dallas, my little Gucci cross-body purse, and Valentino Rockstud Caged Leather heels. You could easily go more casual with the dress by adding slides or even a cute pair of kicks. The bell sleeve is super on-trend, and for the price, it's only peanuts! Just imagine; you will be able to afford to take it to that Amalfi Coast... Continue reading

Stripes. Love 'em! Off the shoulder stripes?! Even better! I'm digging this top by Trina Turk. I found these cute Metro Cropped Kick Flare pant by Veronica Beard at Neiman's. The Veronica Beard lace bomber was hard to resist when I ran stumbled upon it on Net-a-Porter. You can dress it up or down, and it has a cute, little, gathered peplum back drop. Knotted off with a scarf from Loved Adorned in Santa Monica, I felt a little like an updated version of Sandy from Grease. Other details: Gucci cross-body purse. Chanel aviator-style sunglasses from Goo Goo Eyes Dallas.... Continue reading
