My parents were gracious enough to come down and help us with some of the more complex projects this weekend. (Mom and Dad used to own a hardware store, they are both very handy, and Dad can figure out how to fix pretty much anything.) We focused on the projects... Continue reading

Well, to make a long story short, we bought a house! We closed on July 27, and thanks to some strong movers and friends, we moved in on July 29. We decided not to move the bedroom furniture into the master bedroom, as that room needed the most immediate attention... Continue reading

I saw this on light fixture made out of yarn on Pinterest and thought it would be an inexpensive way to put a light in the room, while still meeting our requirements: 1) no drilling into the (recently repaired by the condo owner) ceiling, 2) brighten up the whole room. Continue reading

I accepted the Pinterest Challenge issued by Young House Love's Sherry and Bower Power's Katie, and Tuesday is the deadline. We've got a busy schedule this weekend, so I didn't have time to waste. Continue reading

During our much anticipated super-fun visit to Western New York over the 4th of July , I asked my dad for his help building a West Elm-style headboard I'd seen on Ana White's site. I spent $12 on paint, and dad had the wood and hardware on hand. The original headboard was between 200-250! And, the best part - I got to build something with my talented, renowned Dad. Best 4th of July ever. Continue reading

I've been debating what color to paint this since we got it over a year ago. At first, I wanted it to be "Ikea brown/black," but after the kitchen table update, I decided I wanted a color. Over Memorial Day weekend, I sanded, primed, painted and sealed the dresser. Continue reading

A lack of planning on our part (failing to schedule a dog sitter in advance) turned into an opportunity for us to bring Daisy along on our trip to DC. Both of the couples we visited have friendly dogs and were very happy to have Daisy come play with their... Continue reading

It was no coincidence, if you ask me, that Daisy graduated from her "Self Control" class on Monday. After all, it was graduation weekend across the country, including here at the University of Denzelvania. While Denzel was talking about not being afraid to fail, we were hoping Daisy would try... Daisy's Thundershirt arrived today! I was so excited I took it out to show all my coworkers, explaining the theory (if babies like to be swaddled, why can't dogs?). I should explain...I've been waiting with baited breath for this to come. We've had a rough few days. Daisy has class... Continue reading

Daisy has been spooked by something and is refusing to go outside regularly. She shuts down, sitting or laying in protest. Once we get outside, she just goes potty and wants to come right back inside. Whatever it was that spooked her is going to take a while to overcome.... Continue reading

Our feet have never been happier. Thanks to our dog, who is on Injured Reserve and needed non-slip floors, we just installed new FLOR carpet tiles in our kitchen corridor. Before: After: We opted for three different tiles in FLOR's "Tailor Made" rug pattern, with Dusty Turquoise instead of Chartreuse.... Continue reading

We've been married for more than seven months, and still only had one photo from the wedding. Oops. We thought we needed to pick one photo and enlarge it. And we couldn't decide. And then, serendipitously, blog posts of gallery walls of photos kept popping up in my Google Reader.... Continue reading

After lots of anticipation (more on my part than Daisy's), we had our visit with the Orthopaedic Surgeon at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital today. Everyone at Penn Vet is awesome. So friendly and knowledgable. Our vet, Dr. Agnello, went to SUNY Buffalo undergrad and Cornell Veterinary School, so... Continue reading

Daisy has gotten used to us carrying her up and down the stairs, so much so that we're a bit worried that she'll never want to climb them again herself! Matt gets a kick out of Daisy's latest habit: holding onto the railing. We caught her on video. Enjoy! Continue reading

It may be a side effect of the pain meds or a result of the physical inactivity, but Daisy has been hyPER today. Someone on Orthodogs said that one of meds she's on can increase anxiety and hyperactivity. We may only give it to her once a day because she's... Continue reading

Here's an oldie but a goodie: I inherited a dining room set from my grandparents, and it's been to Chicago and back with me. After looking at it for the last 7 years in my own home, I started dreaming about painting it black. I don't think I fully convinced... Continue reading

I never thought I'd say this, but I started making Daisy some treats today. Don't get me wrong, when Rufus was sick, I'd make him some ground turkey and rice mixed with cottage cheese, but that didn't involve recipes. But with surgery this week(TBD), I wanted to get a jump... Continue reading

Thursday night, "the princess and the pea," as we sometimes call her, couldn't get her bed just right. We found her proudly standing under her bed before we convinced her to lay down. Silly girl! See her caught in the act: I just made her this new bed last weekend... Continue reading

In problem-solving/information-seeking mode, I dove online on Sunday night and Monday, trying to rapidly learn about CCL injuries in dogs. There are some amazing resources online, particularly an experienced group called "orthodogs" on Yahoo. What an invaluable resource! More than a decade of conversations, information, data and resources. And an... Continue reading

To catch you up, here's a brief flashback: We adopted a hound/shepherd mix puppy in January whom we named Daisy. She found us at a Burlington County Animal Alliance dog adoption day in a South Jersey Petsmart, after being born as part of an unwanted litter in South Carolina last... Continue reading
