Transitions
I've spent a lot of time in the last few months meditating (or praying, or whatever you want to call it) on the direction of what I want to do with my Health Kinesiology practice, and the decision I've finally come up with is that I'm going to be closing my practice and Butterfly Balance Wellness Center as of March 15, 2015. It was not initially an easy decision, nor one I came to impulsively. I began my practice officially 6 years ago with the goal of building relationships with people and wanting to help them in their goals towards... Continue reading

Helping Me to Help You
Several months ago I had posted about some of the training that I had gone to in New York for more advanced Health Kinesiology courses, and how life changing that work would be for me. (First post is here, and continued here.) When I arrived in my classes in April 2013 I had NO idea how things were going to shift in the next year for me! Probably a good thing. :) The more work I did on myself, the clearer it became that it was time to end my 16 year marriage. It was a very scary time for... Continue reading

Reawakening
My apologies for my erratic postings here over the last several months. I've been regrouping and reevaluating things after my recent separation and divorce, moving, and all the "fun" stuff that goes with changes like this. I'm in a much better place now, but for a while I was focusing so much on myself and my own healing that it felt best to lay low for a while. After all, I believe that someone in in the health/healing field needs to really be in a good and healthy place themselves in order to effecively help others. Having made myself a... Continue reading

A Marathon of Training - Part 2
Earlier this week I began a story about some of my Health Kinesiology training back in April. Please take a moment to click here to read that post if you haven't already. The description of a Free Form correction didn't really sound all that daunting at first. For most of our Health Kinesiology corrections we find the steps we need to take for the correction, and then do them. This one starts out the same way - we use muscle testing to determine the stressful topic that needs to be talked about. The client talks out loud about what is... Continue reading

A Marathon of Training - Part 1
I started my journey with Health Kinesiology training back in 2009 with HK Level 1. There are 10 levels of classes, plus a number of other classes one can take that are not part of the core curriculum. One can do HK work with only one level taken, but each class builds on the types of corrections that can be done, as well as practice and confidence in the work you're doing. I've had to fly to all but my first class, and after my HK Level 7 class, I took a 2-1/2 year break from training. I decided that... Continue reading

Yep, I'm Still Here ...
I pretty much could reiterate my last post here, wondering where the time has gone. Wow. My apologizes to those of you following along. Lots going on, several partially written blog posts in the queue, but I wanted to drop in and let you know that I'm still here and haven't given up on the blog. Part of the delay is that my practice is going well and I've been busy seeing clients. That's a good thing. But I certainly don't want to neglect my presence here on the internet as well. I hope everyone out there in internet-land is... Continue reading

Where Does the Time Go?
I've probably written 20 blog posts in my head in the past 3 months, and yet none of them actually got to the computer. I can't even believe it's been that long. I seriously don't know where all the time has gone. Then when I did realize it, it got a little intimidating. My apologizes for the silence here recently! I've been doing a lot of personal healing work that I'd like to share a bit about in other posts, and doing a lot of great work with my clients, both of which have kept me busy! I'm not going... Excuses, and Declaring What's Important
I love TinyBuddha and get so much wisdom from that site and their Facebook page. I found this gem recently and wanted to share a story. (And in case you can't read that small photo text, it says "If it's important, you will find a way. If not, you'll find an excluse." ~ Unknown) Many years ago I wanted to study Health Kinesiology. But the nearest teacher was over 1,000 miles away. I came up with many excuses why I couldn't do it - too expensive to travel; I don't have enough vacation time; I don't have the money; I'm... Art of Gratitude
I wanted to share about this really cool website that was brought to my attention recently: Art of Gratitude. It's a free site where you sign up to receive 30 days of gratitude emails. In the email is space for you to write down 3 things you are grateful for, and then you can upload it to your own private page on the Art of Gratitude website. I believe after 30 days you get the option to continue (I'm still in the initial 30 days). I know that a regular Gratitude Practice is really important in shifting our energetic vibration.... Failing to Keep Resolutions: It's Not About Willpower!
I always find it interesting to watch the marketing of New Years Resolutions. I walked into Costco a few days before New Years last year, and the entryway was lined with diet programs, exercise machines, scales, stop-smoking systems, books on health and fitness - you name the typical resolution, and there was an alleged solution right there for the taking. On January 1st of every year I can remember, I'd be watching TV, and not 10 minutes into turning it on, I'd be greeted by a commercial about how you need to start the New Year off right by having... Essential Oil Testimonial Database, and My Own Crisis Averted!
I discovered an absolutely wonderful website called Oil Testimonials. I've been using Young Living Essential Oils for a while now, personally and in my practice, but there is so much to learn about what they can do for your health and wellness. I have to admit that it's still not an automatic response to pick up an oil for a health crisis; most of us were raised with medications in mind, and that's the first thing we think of and rely on. There are a few oils that I really know in terms of what they're good for, but this... Continue reading

Review: Life Juice Cleanse
I recently completed a 3-day juice cleanse/fast from Life Juice and wanted to share my experience with it. I'd never done a juice cleanse or any other type of fast before, unless it was a fast for a medical procedure. And during those fasts I always felt awful and was starving, so the idea of fasting for the heck of it didn't sound too appealing. I follow the blog of Chef Amber Shea and she was doing a review of various juice cleanses that she had received and done. I was intrigued, and in a moment of temporary insanity, decided... Solé Drinking Therapy (no, not fish!)
Have you heard of Solé (pronounced "So-Lay") Drinking Therapy? I hadn't, until a few weeks ago. I had done a prepackaged 3-day juice fast right after Thanksgiving (I'll review that in the next week or so), and the first drink of the day was a Solé drink - ingredients of Himalayan Sea Salt, water and lime. The instructions were to drink first thing out of bed, on an empty stomach. I was not excited to start out my day with a glass of salt water. Honestly, it sounded disgusting. <grin> However, over the 3 days, it became a wonderful ritual.... Continue reading

What is Earthing?
A Health Kinesiology colleague of mine mentioned Earthing on Facebook recently. I had never heard of it before, so I looked over the website at Earthing.com and decided to check out of the library the book Earthing - The Most Important Health Discovery Ever? by Ober/Sinatra/Zucker to learn more. Earthing is described on their website: Throughout history humans walked barefoot and slept on the ground. But modern lifestyle, including the widespread use of insulative rubber- or plastic-soled shoes, has disconnected us from the Earth’s energy and, of course, we no longer sleep on the ground. Fascinating new research has raised... Continue reading

Important Parking Information for Clients
It's come to my attention that some of my clients (and clients of my colleagues) are parking in the incorrect alley parking lot. My landlord has informed me that the owner of the alley lot just east of 36th Street (just south of Alaska) is going to start having cars towed if they do not belong to his patients/clients/staff. If you look at the Google Maps photo below, you'll see a larger lot on the left that is surrounded by a chain fence, and then a smaller one next to it to the right (east) with room for 6 cars.... Non-Toxic Floor Cleaning
When I first started getting interested in improving my health and “greening” my home to make it less toxic, I started replacing many of the cleansers in my home with natural, non-toxic versions. But I’ve found a series of options that I am very happy with in terms of keeping my home clean and safe for myself, animals and children. The toxic chemicals found in many cleaning products are a hazard not just to the environment, but to our personal health – causing problems with lungs, skin and internal organs. I have spent a lot of time in Health Kinesiology... Continue reading

Ode to Peppermint Oil, or Salvation from Stench
How's that for a title? :) Monday in our house is garbage day, which includes pickup for compost - here in Seattle we can collect kitchen food scraps and put them into a bin for them to pickup and compost on garbage day. A few weeks ago, as I gathered everything up and opened the in-kitchen com...
