When a new President takes office, one of the first things he does is establish his Presidential cabinet. When someone starts a company, they form a management team and a Board of Directors. When a project manager takes on a complex project..... Continue reading

s children, we were all fascinated by fairy tales. As adults, we tend to dismiss them. We shouldn't – there are real life lessons to be learned from them. You know how most begin: “Once upon a time, far, far away…” And they end with “happily ever after”. We all love that dreamy beginning and the happy ending. But the most important part of the story is in between. That is where the conflict occurs. It’s where Continue reading

Having a ladder is great but if you climb and find you have it leaning against the wrong wall, time to reposition yourself. The same is true for our D.I.S. and C. Wired Strengths. Having them is wonderful BUT you need to use your strengths well and be sure they are being used in the right project, business or career to really leverage them well. So how can you use your tool well? Continue reading

Prescription for a Torn Meniscus The timing of this newsletter is befitting, as I am currently in the doctor’s office being treated for a partially torn meniscus. I managed to do this as I was traveling back from the Dan Miller Christmas Open House in Franklin, Tennessee. Yes, it’s a bummer! Not the Christmas Open House – that was great. But THIS…this is definitely not the highlight of the trip. So I am thinking I would like to just have a good whine and cheese party. But I won’t. It certainly does make me appreciate the good health and relatively... Continue reading

Legacy Some call it folklore, others refer to it as inspiration but no matter how you refer to it, the key is that you refer to it at all. Every company has a legacy, a past, a history that laid out the circumstances to where they are now and how they arrived there. I loved the fact that the company I worked for for over twenty years had such a rich legacy. It was rich in history, rich in characters and rich in inspiration. Leaders create legacy. Leaders honor legacy. How are you honoring the legacy you've been given? Continue reading

Ruh- Roh! I, Deb Ingino, would like to announce that I have never made a mistake! Yes, I would like to announce that, but I can't. And neither can you, if you're honest. We all make mistakes, make wrong decisions, or take a wrong turn here and there. We do things we shouldn't do, and we don't do things we should. We are especially given to "ruh-roh's" when we are tired, in the wrong environment, or in times of change. Be aware of these. Prevent them if you can, and where it's too late for prevention, take immediate steps to... Continue reading

Have you ever noticed that some weeks just seem to have themes? For example, you will hear a radio show or a podcast, read an article, or receive a call from a friend; and you will start to notice a theme to the messages you’re hearing. It’s just interesting how that sometimes happens. Well, this week, the theme that has emerged for me is “Getting Started”. I would like to tell you that when I started down the path of my business, I had everything planned to perfection; and then I executed and, magically, a successful business emerged. Uh…NO. It... In sailing just as in business we focus on two keys Charting the Course Steering the Ship Both are important but one is most important. Charting the course takes serious concentration, requires research, demands logic and data to be accurate and timely. And then there is steering the ship. With the course charted the leader steers as planned but then something unexpected happens, the data is not lining up with the conditions at hand and it takes vision and a steady hand to intuitively modify the plan so you can continue on your path. Great leaders have charted a logical... Continue reading

I received a very special invite via a text message from my sister that my 5-year-old niece had set up an indoor (we do live in NY after all!) raspberry iced tea stand in their apartment. The invite included the number I could call for more details and a recommendation that I stop first thing. I eagerly RSVP’d and called as I neared their place. Once I arrived, they asked if I wanted curbside or indoor service. I opted for indoor so I could get the full effect of the indoor stand. So there in their living room was her... Continue reading

These dogs are popping up all over Long Island, where we have a lot of geese that stop in between their winter home in the South and their summer home in Canada. When the wind blows, the dog moves, and it scares the geese. This made me think that often what we fear is just a silhouette of something flapping away as if it were real. It will scare some off, for sure. But the smart geese will give it a closer examination and will realize there is nothing to fear. So what are your silhouette dogs, and what do... Continue reading
