What a sweet post and, yes, she is a lovely young lady!!
Sweet 16
Our daughter is 16 today. My husband & I have spent the past week saying "I can't believe she's 16!" It seems like yesterday she was an itty bitty baby...and now look at her...a beautiful young lady. We spend so much of our kids lives wishing for their next stage...saying things like, ...
what - you were blonde?? I'm guessing we have been to a lot of those places since that's the kind of stuff we like to do. Greatd idea!!
Then & Now
Four Corners, August 1973. That makes me 6. (I'm diggin' my outfit! And check out those classic cars!) Four Corners, August 2010. (I definitely see a scrapbook page here!) Have you ever been to Four Corners? It's where Arizona, Utah, Colorado & New Mexico meet. There has been some c...
Yes, you are - it's written all over your face! Oh - me too!!
Today...
What does your self portrait look like today? Are you happy? Sad? Overwhelmed? What would a photo of you today say? Me? I'm happy :)
Well, how fun to come over here and see Elizabeth's stuff. I mean it really is a small world!
Simple Scrapbooking
No, that's not a typo. Scrapbooking can be simple! And simple is beautiful! Take a look at my friend Elizabeth's scrapbook... (from retinal perspectives) It's funny, but when I asked her if I could use this photo, she told me that she had never thought about this as scrapbooking, but as a ...
It seems that antiques are being created faster and faster these days - it's a little scary, especially when you consider that they actually make things knowing that they have a very short life (so that you will then buy a new one) and that most of them will end up in the landfill. Something wrong with that picture!
antique
it is funny to think that something i once used - the typewriter - is considered an antique. yet there it is.
Ooo - sounds fun. I try these kinds of things and then tend to forget about them, photoshop being its lovely overwhelming self! I will give it a try - thanks!!
amazing circles
in case you were wondering how i got that fabulous image last week .. i took this photo and applied the steps in this tutorial to it. i've linked to the tutorial a few times before, but it's been a while. i have it bookmarked because it's pretty much my favorite. not every photo works, but i...
Wel.... I haven't done it yet, but yours is sure full of happiness!! So sweet!!
Self Portrait Friday
Here's your assignment today: Snap a self portrait of you & your sweetie, whoever that might be. It'll be one of those photos you love forever...enjoy!
I'm still cracking up! So you actually do call him Atlas once in a while??
a pup by any other name
i read a fun post last week where gayle listed all the names she calls their dog, timmy. i thought it would be a fun exercise to write down all the names i have for my atlas pup. let's see: atlas, sweetie, sweetheart, puppy, guppy, puppers, pupperdoodle, goofy, silly, snuffly, snuffles, snuf...
You do look intent! A bump in the road is easier than Photoshop!!
Self Portrait Friday
me, today...on my drive into work...yeah, I know...using a camera & driving...but really, I was totally paying attention to the road...and doing about 5 mph. I like how the blurr kinda blurrs out my wrinkles...must of hit a bump in the road :)
Elizabeth, I can relate to so much of what you've said here! I've officially been doing "nothing" for one year tomorrow. I am busier than ever and my photo-cup runneth over. Yet I struggle, when people ask me what I'm doing, to state it in a way that feels "normal". I feel it's been a year of huge growth for me, but not everyone gets that. I LOVE that you are taking this time off. I know you will remember fondly - seriously, for your whole life! You go girl!!
filling the creative well
i can't remember if i mentioned that i have been on vacation this month. i gave myself the time off to transition from working for someone else to working for myself. mostly, i've been doing whatever i want. whatever i want, as it turns out, is a lot of what people might consider nothing...
OH my goodness, now I'm seriously hungry! Gorgeous looking cookies, totally worth the mess. That Atlas is one smart pup! I mean, you could hold a plate underneath, but that would mess up all his fun!
coooooooookies
apparently newly self-employed people require cookies, since i am on my second batch of the week. i have been dreaming about these ones since last weekend and finally bought the ingredients to make them. they're peanut butter blossoms but with miniature peanut butter cups instead of choc...
what a great perspective - one that we need lots of reminding about. at least I do! I've been thinking a lot about the whole "want what you have" concept lately. perfect - I'm glad you found the joy!
ode to joy, volume 20
{my attempt to capture 52 photos that represent joy - my word for 2010} realizing that you are just not in the mood for rain-soaked hiking, even though you drove the hour to the coast to do so, but enjoying the drive and the day in a different way instead. pure joy.
Very cool shot - looks like he's doing some serious thinking!
with this ring
speaking of weddings, i just ran across this photo in my archives and am rather fond of it. i took it last year, at my brother's wedding. it was just so fascinating to see a ring on his ring finger.
I've always thought that about dogs - they really do get it, don't they??
ode to joy, volume 19
{my attempt to capture 52 photos that represent joy - my word for 2010} watching someone who is a master at the art of living in the moment. pure joy.
Oh, i love these "friendship fotos"! It's so fun and such a mystery to try to figure out what is happening inside those little heads!!
feline: friend or foe
remember when i said that atlas made a new friend? here is one story of their friendship, in photos. as an aside, this friend has now gone missing. when did it happen? shortly after i pulled out the camera to document their friendship. this seems to be a common th...
I don't shoot a lot of people either (you may have noticed). It's never really been my thing. Sometimes I do find it kind of fun, but mostly, I feel like they might find it intrusive and I feel more comfortable with inanimate objects. Often, when people find out that I do photography, they think I may want to do some kind of portrait and I usually end up explaining that that's not the type of photography I do (no weddings, please!)
I do like the rain photos!!
perfection
when i was looking at these photos, they reminded me of my scar. this seems rather coincidental, since it was caused by water. over the past year, i've occasionally wondered if there is a deeper reason that i rarely take photos of people. (i have reasons, but they seem more like excuses than...
Ohhh, those eyes... interesting about the raincoat. Muffin balks when we put her in sweaters, but seems to enjoy them once they're on. And she absolutely adores being covered with blankets.
oh, nosy one
if you want to read a fascinating and informative book about dogs, read "inside of a dog" by amanda horowitz. i read it yesterday and there were two things i read that made atlas' life better already. first, i learned the reason that the pup stands so still and looks so miserable whe...
LOVE those words - so simple, yet such powerful truth. Beautiful!!
we all sleep under the same moon
sometimes it's good to be reminded
I absolutley LOVE that you are doing this at such a young age!! The future is bright, my friend!!
ode to joy, volume 17
{my attempt to capture 52 photos that represent joy - my word for 2010} as one door closes, another door opens. today, my path is changing. i am following my heart, and it is leading me in a new direction. earlier this week, i was wondering if i was starting to freak out. i was feeling real...
Too cute - gotta love that Atlas! If he only knew all the distant eyes that were checking him out and following his every move...wouldn't want him to get vain!
yoga on the beach is very popular with the locals
heeheeheeheehee
I can so relate to the dog hair. Every time I frame a photo I have to take it apart because there's always (at least) one dog hair in there. She's worth it tho!
Self Portrait Fridays
That's me. Genuine. Fits for today. It's also me to have copious amounts of dog hair on my shirt. Try this today: set your camera on macro (that little flower on the dial) and take some super close up shots of what you're wearing...your glasses...your eyes...but make sure it's on macro or...
Elizabeth, I know you have been looking toward this for a long time. I am SO excited for you and wish for you BIG success in your new venture!! Can't wait to hear how it all goes.
Oh - I adore the dainty pink tulips with those drops on them!!!
it's quiet over here
i feel like i am rather behind on everyone's blogs. to which end, i thought i'd mention that it's not that i don't love you anymore - it's that i am leaving my job at the end of april to be a reiki person, so my focus is elsewhere right now. as it turns out, the end of april is on friday (!!...
It looks like a fun place!!
a visit to bob
on saturday, my friend karen and i went to bob's red mill whole grain store. she had a shopping list. i was there to browse. it was fun to wander the aisles, and my grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes from the cafe made for a yummy lunch. i was most excited about the dave's killer ...
What an amazing and insightful quote!! And the photos to go with it!!
homage to mary oliver
"When it's over, I want to say: all my life I was a bride married to astonishment." - Mary Oliver
I just found myself staring at that first photo and wondering what sort of wisdom is brewing inside that handsome head of his! Oh, if only they could speak English!!
where, oh where has my little dog gone
"my, what a big head you have, atlas!" "the better to not look at you, my dear, while you are trying to snap photos of me. haven't you heard? photos steal your soul. i refuse to look directly into the lens."
