Joining in with Ginny at Small Things for Yarn Along I'm continuing on with Judah's hat. I really need to get it done for him soon as we are starting to get some spring weather. I'm certain we will have more freezing temperatures in April so it will get some... Continue reading

Easter Egg Hunt
These pictures are a wee bit dark and blurry but there was a flurry of excitement first thing Easter morning and these were all that got snapped! (Oh, and that is half of a foam brain on the couch. Not sure why it is there...or where it is now...ha!) Continue reading

A snowmobiling adventure
On Saturday afternoon we went for a snowmobile ride across the river. The weather was gorgeous - sunny and a little above freezing. We took three full size snowmobiles, one of which was pulling a large sled, and our mini snowmobile. Our whole family went and we also brought along... Continue reading

Cardboard box fun
We got a big box in the mail the other day from Ikea. The kids claimed it for their own and ever since someone or other has been occupying the box or its lid during daylight hours. Judah even asked to bring his "sub" to his room to nap in... Continue reading

Mischief!
I was helping the girls clean their room and their tiny bathroom the other day when I noticed this on the wall. In nail polish. I immediately called Emma who informed me that she had taught Judah how to write her name and so he must have written it on... Continue reading

Betty's Bay
On our way from Cape Town to Stanford we stopped in at Betty's Bay which was the site of an old oiling station. We visited Stony Point Penguin Colony to view the black-footed penguins, cormorants, and fascinating little creatures called hyraxes who are also known locally as dassies. Continue reading

Me, too, Jenny! I saw the yarn and loved it and so I found a pattern to work with it. It reminds me of summer and being a little kid.

Joining in with Ginny over at Small Things for Yarn Along. This week I finally picked up my knitting needles after a long hiatus. I had been afraid to start a new project as I didn't have anyone to ask for help when I was attempting some new stitches and... Continue reading

Hi Mary,
I love sea urchins! I only found three intact ones along the beaches we walked as they seem to be easily broken in the surf.
There is a really neat Etsy shop that sells jewelry made from sea urchins, shells, etc., called Star of the East. I bought a sea urchin ring from them years ago. I had not ever seen one in nature before January of this year. Here's a link to the shop if you're curious - https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/StaroftheEast?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Blue skies
This morning I suddenly realized how overcast it has been for the last days (weeks?)! Looking out the kitchen window, the sky was a brilliant light blue and the snow on the trees was so white it was difficult to look at. The sun had returned! It only lasted about... Continue reading

An excellent way to end an evening
My wonderful parents brought us stroopwafels when they returned from their vacation (along with some really yummy gouda cheese and other treats!) and last night I thought it would be lovely to have one alongside my final cup of coffee of the day and our annual winter beeswax candle. Methinks... Continue reading

A toddler observation
I was tucking Judah in the other night and he insisted that I get under his crib size quilt with him to snuggle. Once my shoulder was covered to his satisfaction he says, "You have your coffee, and I have my milk cup." Sounds about right! Continue reading
