The best day so far, in my 50in50before50, other than the facial (which is still paying dividends) was Saturday. I surprised my husband with a progressive evening out. Normally our evenings out consist of dinner. This time, I took Gary for drinks at the Snooty Frog in Cameron Park. It's... Continue reading

If you were born in 1961, you will be, or already are, 50 this year. Other notable 50s: First manned space flight; Pampers disposable diapers; the Freedom Riders heroic bus ride; Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, California; and, possibly the best...Der Weinerschnitzel! Continue reading

This has been hanging over my head since 2009! Yes. 2009! We got this camera for our trip to Kauai with my sister, Tammy, and her husband, Dave. We took 100's of photos on that trip. Since then, we've taken 100's more: our new beach house, a couple years of... Continue reading

Admittedly it seems a little superficial, this facial. But on second glance, it's actually a really good-for-you thing to do. I went to Harmony Salon in Cameron Park. The esthetician, a young woman (who looked about 20 but was nearly 30), asked me some harmless questions about stuff I use... Continue reading

Birthdays are just so happy. No matter your age, you should CELEBRATE! I think of those American Cancer Society commercials with people like Keith Urban, singing the Happy Birthday song. So touching. We owe it to ourselves and to those who aren't able to celebrate any longer to really embrace... Continue reading

Today, I chose to cook with my daughter. She's been wanting me to make gnocchi (potato dumpling pasta) from scratch for a LONG time now. I serendipitously came across a recipe in the June issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. So we made it tonight for dinner. PLUS, I... Continue reading

You know it's a big number. 50. It even sounds big. You can kind of slide by with the 40s. But 50...not so much. For me, it's time to look up, look ahead, and face reality. I'm not young anymore, and there's no denying it. I might feel young, which... Continue reading

Hi there. I've been thinking about doing this blog-thing for a while now. So here's me just jumping in. My hope for this little blog is to learn what you are doing in your lives that make it stand out from the rest. I'm haunted by the quote from Thoreau (Emerson?) that we all live lives of quiet desperation. That's not good. I think that everyday should be a celebration and we should live up (that's why I've named my blog that). I believe we should all Live Up to our potential, live lives that are elevated and worthwhile. I... Continue reading
