A Simpler Time
Throughout our long history, the people of the world have found themselves existing in several different types of societies, each different and unique from its predecessor. Prehistoric man began in a society of hunters and gatherers. These nomadic people took meat and grain from their surroundings and then moved to different areas as food stuffs were depleted. Because they followed migrating herds, these people were unable to establish cities or communal life beyond tribal existence, composed of extended familial groups, whose main function was based solely upon gathering sustenance. Eventually, man learned to domesticate animals and grow their own grains.... Continue reading

Random Acts of Kindness Group on Ravelry
Earlier in September, I joined the Random Acts of Kindness Group on Ravelry, the online community of knitters and crocheters. The group allows you to post a wish list each month of fiber-related and life-related gifts that you would like to receive. You, in turn, then keep a close monitor on the wish lists of other's in order to grant them a random act of kindness by supplying them a wish from their list. It is a wonderful concept and I was thrilled to post my first wish list. I have been able to send out several RAKs this month... Continue reading

Digital Nation
Digital Nation, produced by Frontline for PBS, is a documentary that showcases how digitally wired and technology dependent that our lives have become. It focuses mainly on the lives of young children and college students, which is the generation which has grown up with this technology. The documentary is organized around nine chapters which focus on multitasking, the addiction of online gaming, the use of technology in the classroom, the effects of technology upon academic performance, building and maintaining digital relationships, the semi-reality of virtual worlds, and the future of technologies that will impact us all. I found this documentary... Continue reading

Adding to my Knitting Book Collection
Today, was date day and my wife and I headed north up I-75 to go to Logan's Roadhouse in Richmond, Kentucky, for dinner. Following our delicious meal, I went to Hastings to see if a crochet magazine my wife has been awaiting was on the newstands. Unfortunately, it was not, but I was able to pick up a copy of the Fall 2010 Interweave Crochet for her. There were no knitting magazines on the newstand that I did not already have so I browsed through the knitting section in the stacks of books. One of the books that I purchased... Continue reading

Let's Knit2gether
I have just discovered a video podcast called Let's Knit2gether. It is a podcast produced by husband/wife team, Eric and Cat Susch, which focuses on Cat's love of knitting, spinning, and the fiber arts. Cat is so personable on her video podcast that you immediately become addicted to the series. Eric handles the video production of the series which is one of the most professional video podcasts that I have ever seen. His quality production is certainly evidenced in the weekly podcast and can stand proudly beside other high quality video podcasts such as those produced by Leo Laporte and... Continue reading

Ozzy's Winter Blanket
I just finished a winter blanket for Ozzy and he seems to really enjoy it. He sleeps under it most nights and looks very cute. I made it with Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Pumpkin using my US 9 Addi Turbo Circs. The pumpkin color certainly matches the color of his coat. This evening I cast on Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Grey Marble to make a winter blanket for Isabella, our Shih Tzu. Continue reading

I Have a Local Yarn Shop!!!
Despite my post from yesterday, this evening I discovered that I do have a local yarn shop. While visiting the Pulaski County Public Library Facebook Page I discovered that my community has a local fiber arts shop called The Silver Wheel. This studio seems to have relocated from Lexington to Somerset. According to their website they specialize "in hand woven heirloom quality textiles, delicate hand-spinning, and knitting pattern design and education in these crafts." I am super excited and will have to locate their studio tomorrow! They even have a blog! Continue reading

The Hobby Lobby
I finished up my blanket that I made for my Yorkshire Terrier and I was completely out of yarn to cast on for the next project. I successfully avoided the urge to plunder my wife's stash for I value my life, dearly. We live 85 miles from a chain yarn shop and have only the yarn contained in the craft section of Walmart from which to browse. I am not a fan of Red Heart yarn so my local yarn purchasing is non existent. Today was a beautiful day, so we got in the car and drove up the interstate... Continue reading

The Knitting Circle
I have been interested in knitting for about a year and I have a life long passion for books, so on Friday afternoon I googled "knit lit" to see if there were any fiction books that had knitting as a theme. Was I ever pleasantly suprised. I listed all of these books in my Moleskine and then visited the online catalogue of my local library to see if they had any of these treasures on their shelves. One of the books that I checked out wasThe Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. It was fantastic and I could not put the... Continue reading

Honoring God
I just had the pleasure of viewing a sermon by Dr. Dollar on the theme of honoring of God. Part of his sermon text came from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." These verses say clearly that we must honor God with our bodies. It means that whatever we do, we do to it... Continue reading

Inception
My wife and I just saw Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, and Cillian Murphy. All I can say is - WOW! You begin the movie in confusion and end the movie in greater confusion but it is 148 minutes of ULTIMATE, SHEER BRILLANCE! The plot line is multidimensional, requiring that you play close attention as the story line develops, and then you end the movie and are left deeply thinking. A genuis of a mind had to conceive and execute this movie. Continue reading

Dr. Creflo Dollar
Dr. Creflo Dollar is the founder and senior pastor of World Changers Church International based out of College Park, Georgia, and New York City. He has a ministry centered around the theme of changing your mind with the Word of God and his scripture-centered teaching speaks to me in a deep way. Dr. Dollar's ministry has shown me that anyone trying to follow Christ must base their actions and reactions solely upon God's Word; the Holy Scriptures are a blueprint for our plan for living. My Eternal Beloved introduced me to Dr. Dollar several months ago and I am certainly... Continue reading

Favorite Authors
How does one author become your favorite? Generally, you like the author's writing style or the way they relate a story. I used to be one of the milions of people that flocked every January to the local bookstore for the new Grisham release. Several years ago my supervisor had given me a copy of Grisham's A Time to Kill. I began reading it but the rape scene in the first chapter was so graphic that I put the book down; I picked it back up several weeks later following so many recommendations from my reading friends. I am grateful... Continue reading

Just a Little Sad
My wife and I are just a little blue this evening for we have come to the final moments of our two week Christmas Break and will have to return to work tomorrow morning at 8:00 A.M. We have certainly enjoyed our time off together and have loved every minute of it. We have not done anything special. We are not people that like to run around and do things; we just love to stay home and read, crochet, nap, and other activities that we both enjoy together. In addition to the many Christmas presents we received from her, Mother... Continue reading

Logos 4 - A Review
I purchased Logos 4 a few weeks ago. My lovely wife was kind enough to give Logos 4 as my Christmas present. (Yes, I am a geek and she loves me anyway). Since then, I've been checking out all the cool features, watching online tutorials and videos, reading the forums and generally just tr...
Sherlock Holmes
Today was date day and my wife and I elected to go see the new Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. I had some apprehensions in the beginning, for I am not a fan of Robert Downey, Jr,, however, he soon won me over. His depiciton of the mythic detective was riveting and quite believable and Jude Law certainly breathed life into the role of the dodering Dr. Watson. The movie was packed with excitement and the action atop the Tower Bridge was breathtaking. I give this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars. Continue reading

The Year of Living Like Jesus
Over the Christmas holiday, I picked up a copy of The Year of Living Like Jesus by Dr. Ed Dobson. The title intrigued me and when I flipped through its pages I noticed that it was written in a diary format, which greatly appealed to me. I am more than half-way through the book and it is a wonderful read. Dr. Dobson was inspired by A.J. Jacob's book, The Year of Living Biblically. In his book, Dr. Dobson relates how he used the Gospels as a blueprint to living the way that Jesus lived. He investigated eating kosher, keeping the... Continue reading

Resolutions for 2010
It is traditional at this time of year for people to makes lists of their resolutions for the new year. Unfortunately, before the ink has even dried on the paper, the resolutions are forgotten and do not cross the mind until the following New Years' Eve. I am making the following resolutions for 2010 and will do my best to review them often so that they may keep me on track in making some positive changes in my life. RESOLUTIONS FOR 2010: 1. In 2010, I will continue to show unending love to my beloved wife and son. 2. In... Continue reading

Happy New Year!!!
Mitzi, Andrew, and I read Psalm 91 this evening as our prayer for the new year. 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the...
