Donna Hay You are a Genius
Don't hate me for this. After that Chocolate & Caramel Pudding sucked me in two months ago I just couldn't walk past the new Donna Hay magazine, gloriously adorned with Salted Caramel and Vanilla Baked Cheesecake. How many kinds of awesome does that both look and sound? Yesterday afternoon...

Pull My Finger
I love homemade baked beans. I don't always love the after effects so I do only eat beans in moderation. Ordinarily I will make a big batch of baked beans whenever I cook pork ribs but it has been a while and I have had a bit of a hankering... Continue reading

Asparagus is back in season. That means that breakfast for dinner is back on the menu in our house. Whether it is all out fancy like this or just some simple scrabled eggs served alongside some bacon this makes for a quick and easy meal when you are short on... Continue reading

Getting A Handle on Portion Size
One of the things I have been concentrating on for myself recently has been getting my portion sizes back down to where they should be. I have been doing a bit more eating for the sheer pleasure of it and perhaps taking things a bit beyond 80/20. When it comes... Continue reading

Spicy Chicken Noodles
Monday saw me off to site this week so it was time for another installment of Meals even my husband can cook. I walked in the door just as it was ready to be served, Miss L had been a very able kitchenhand and disaster was narrowly averted when Woody... Continue reading

Possibly the Best Banana Bread Ever
I credit my love of food and cooking to my Nana. She had the most incredible collection of cookbooks, she loved to cook for people, and, like me, she loved to eat. When my Nana passed away her collection of cookbooks her collection of cookbooks, unfortunately, did not find its... Continue reading

Spontaneity, Priorities & My Two Things
As I am sure that you have noticed I bang on a bit about goal setting and planning. To some it may seem that I might, in fact, be one of the more boring people on earth with a rigid diary that leaves little scope for spontaneity. The truth is... Continue reading

30 Minutes Is All It Takes
Have you ever heard the saying 'you can't out exercise a bad diet'. It is true. When you actually look at how many calories you burn during an exercise session it is easy to see why exercise alone is unlikely to make a significant difference to your weight if you... Continue reading

Chocolate Craving Quick Fix
I think it is time for me to start taking magnesium again. Magnesium is particularly useful for relieving muscle soreness, which I suspect is something I will be dealing with a lot in the next few weeks and months now that I am putting a new training regime in place.... Continue reading

Hi Ali,
Thanks for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate your feedback.
I actually didn’t take Taryn’s article personally, as in a personal attack on me, I took exception to the context it has been written in. I absolutely agree with the quit your whinging approach she’s taken but I think it has been done poorly in the case of this article, I think that it is insulting to people’s intelligence. It is a very heavy handed approach to a delicate subject. Who or what makes the distinction between people who have real depression & body image issues and not?
I don’t know how much of that is Taryn’s writing and how much of the approach has been editorially directed. I haven’t particularly liked anything I have read from Taryn on Mamamia. I don’t read anything on Mamamia regularly because I find that there overriding approach is to create sensation, I see it as an online tabloid…kind of like NW as a print media comparison. It’s okay for the pictures but I don’t place a whole lot of value on what I read in it.
I don’t want to attack what Taryn is trying to achieve because there are people who are connecting with it in a positive way. I don’t connect with the way Taryn is delivering her message. I feel that too much is left out and left open for {mis}interpretation. I am far more comfortable with the idea of an holistic image of self rather than something so focused on body image. I wrote about that here a few weeks ago.

I Am Not a Spoiled Brat
Last week I read something that I felt insulted my intelligence and the intelligence of others. A piece that put forth the notion that women who worry about their appearance are self indulgent spoiled brats. I would like to challenge that. I care about my appearance. If I don’t like something ...
Rainbow Slice
My sister is coming for dinner tonight; she asked what she could bring. I told her I didn’t know but I’ve got 5 dozen oysters, a variety of cheeses and not much else. I think we’ll have pizza and oysters. I can always find stuff to put on pizza. It’s... Continue reading

Why Keep A Food Diary?
One of the things I am doing this week is keeping a food diary. It’s something that, despite good intentions, I have never actually done. The number one reason for keeping a food diary is to make you more aware of what you are eating and it also encourages you... Continue reading

Creamy Parsnip & Lemon Arancini
There is this wonderful Adelaide business called Let them Eat. I've created a recipe inspired by their food before. Top Tips for Eating During the Social Season

Easy & Light Pork Sausage Rolls
I haven't had a sausage roll in ages. I can't remember the last time I bought one. Bought ones are so hit and miss, they are often more filler than anything and the pastry often leaves your mouth feeling like you've painted it with grease. Not my favourite. I'd had... Continue reading
