Hi Daniel! Thanks for finding me here! I really dropped the ball on updating this space with 52 weeks artwork. I completed most weekly exercises back in 2010. Perhaps I'll pick up again in January, as my New Year's resolutions are likely going to be about keeping my finger on the pulse of my creativity. Right now its all about holiday crafting... I would love to see your work too! Cheers.

Another year gone, leaving everywhere its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves, the uneaten fruits crumbling damply in the shadows, unmattering back from the particular island of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere except underfoot, moldering in that black subterranean castle of unobservable mysteries - roots and sealed seeds and the wanderings of water. This I try to remember when time's measure painfully chafes, for instance when autumn flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing to stay - how everything lives, shifting from one bright vision to another, forever in these momentary pastures. ~ Mary Oliver... We are taking a long vacation from island life in the Pacific Northwest to visit our home on the Minneapolis prairie. If it's true that life is a journey and not a destination, all is well. I'm remembering how the Chinese term for crisis (wei ji) contains elements of both danger and opportunity, and I'm grateful for the guidance at the fork in the road. "Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors." ~African proverb "Barn's burnt down -- now I can see the moon." ~ Mizuta Masahide 17th century Japanese poet and samurai "...I would like to beg you to... The weather junkies predict sunshine and warmth for the next ten days. Those wool socks I wore all of June (June-uary in the Pacific Northwest) were ready to come off and stay off until it becomes (officially) a new season. Can I have an Amen (and, as Clarissa Pinkola Estes says: a little woman)? Ah! Life at home on the island is a little patch of heaven right now. Community is a blessing. Many hands make light work, and the garden here is beyond abundant. I do think my boys and I just experienced the most enjoyable July 4 we... Continue reading

Summer. At last. I am so grateful for... :: our lush island surroudings and the creatures of the season (oh, the hummingbirds!) :: the beaming faces of my sons (& another birthday for Indigo.. 11!) :: extended family I enjoy getting to know more and more (thanks again Cecie) :: excitement as I look forward to seeing some dear friends in Mpls. very soon :: my body's incredible ability to remember, to heal, and to transform :: the opportunities that arrive at the crisis point :: Nia :: Sisterhood Continue reading

I can't believe ten days of June have blown by already. Whoa. Solstice and the 4th of July are right around the corner, and the school year is still in swing for both boys. Life is filled to the brim with milestones, celebrations, festivals, and transitions galore. Finn recently graduated from a year long Coming of Age program, and is now stepping into the final week of his 9th grade career. I'm incredibly proud of him for keeping the faith, persevering, earning academic honors, and somehow retaining the ability to remain creative with what free time he has. Just a... Continue reading

A festive celebration, rain or shine, graced our island Waldorf school this afternoon. Though I enjoyed all of it with my littlest, I was a bit tempted to miss the old days, way back when my big kid was...little (really not so long ago). I wondered if he would be disappointed that he was missing out on all the fun...until I discovered him walking home from big kid school looking like this! Clearly, he has his own thing going on (a handmade Japanese hat in celebration of Children's Day in Japan)... Good times all around! Happy May! Continue reading

Last Friday marked the 30th day of my seasonal cleanse, which evolved very naturally into all raw vegan foods and herbal infusions of nettle and dandelion root. I feel so much better that I plan to keep going with at least 85% raw vegan foods throughout the summer. Cheers to the season of fresh veggies aplenty! Continue reading

Spring Break is coming to a close for us, and we are ready to slip back into our usual rhythms tomorrow. Dear friends from Minnesota were in town for a wonderful visit, which helped us to feel that we "got away" while staying right here and keeping things simple. All the touristy fun of downtown Seattle and island beaches felt new to us as again as we showed our guests around these parts. What a treat it's been to re-connect, get some sun, and have a break. Can you feel summer on the horizon? Goodness, I cannot believe it, but... Continue reading

Hi! I do still have your super sweet drawing. A friend of mine commented on how sweet it was today when she was over for tea. I know...that kitty of mine looks so innocent in all my photos here. Don't be fooled... :) xo

I'm still taking this seasonal purification diet one day at a time and tuning in my own personal needs. For over a week now, I've been reaching for the green, raw, living choices. It's pretty amazing how the taste buds adjust after the initial few days of a raw diet. In the mornings, I am actually *craving* some variation of the lemon/lime, parsley, pear, apple, and ginger juice. I blend it all up in the Vitamix and then strain it because I don't have a juicer. I'm not sure I need one because the Vitamix does such an amazing job... Continue reading

I'm noticing how my body has already started to crave purification. As I groove with the natural encouragement of the seasonal shift, I am choosing to explore my body's unique needs right now. I am not, for example, choosing to follow advice presently (however great it may be). I will not be joining a 30 day challenge, fasting, or consulting a nutrition guru any time soon. Those adventures have been part of my learning curve in the past, and I'm especially grateful for what I have learned about nourishing gluten free, raw, vegetarian and vegan choices. Right now, I'm simply... Continue reading
