A Night Out
In the middle of May this year, there was supposedly one of the biggest full moons ever! All the photographer's I know (which is not many, but I'm sure there were plenty more) were out photographing it. I happened to be at some friends' wedding at prime time to photograph.... Continue reading

One little girl doing her first show
My job at my favourite little Italian coffee shop in the world, with my very petite Italian boss, has been a huge help in making my home in the city. As well as a great boss, great coffee, a great clientelle, and at least one free meal a day, that... Continue reading

2.) The engagement photo shoot
When I say I want to photograph someone, what it really means is that I'd like to know them. Anyone I know I photograph. -Annie Leibovitz This is one of my favourtie quotes by Annie Leibovitz, a very prominent American photographer most well known for her work at "Rolling Stone"... Continue reading

Space for Expression
I have reached a great level of comfort, routine even, after 5 months living on my own in the rainy city of Vancouver! Even with two moves, a full time job, and quite a number of drunken dancing parties under my belt, my photography has taken a few small leaps... Continue reading

Textured brush
My post earlier was so fun I thought I'd post another one! This one looks like (if I were a painter) I took a spiney brush to the image. The tight S curve in the center of this one is why I like it. The red and green are vibrant... Continue reading

Anthurium
Anthurium is a very common plant in Hawaii. Some of the more prime (I'm assuming) varieties were chosen for the botanical garden I visited. I did not take a liking to this plant, I find it shiny, falic, and dis-jointed looking. Despite this, the result of my shoot with this... Continue reading

Before and After.
Photographer's notes: I rarely shoot on speed priority ( I usually go with aperture priority) but for this shot the speed really was the priority! 1/500th of a sec, at f/8 exp. +1/3, ISO 200. Outside my house there is this honey suckle bush, and the snow from the roof... Continue reading

Cat's Whiskers
Photographer's notes: this image is purely to show the flower, and what it's called. 1/60th of a sec. (just fast enough to hand hold) f/6.3 ISO 100. This is one of the first plants I came upon in my walk through the botanical garden in Hawaii. I was totally interested... Continue reading

Complimentary
I was surprised and delighted with how this image turned out, as I always am with abstracts. The group of three, the "V" and the complimentary colours were unplanned, and it's amazingly inspiring and captivating when I can bring that out in the darkroom. Continue reading

Go beyond the usual.
Photographer's notes: just a side note, I always use the same camera body, and I only own one lens. They are A Canon EOS 40D slr digital. My lens is a 28-135mm. Not very wide, very versatile. Unless otherwise specified, that is what my photos are taken with. Taken at... Continue reading

Take the shot
Photographer's notes: f/6.3 ISO 100 at 1/40th sec. This portrait actually didn't turn out. But i had to take it! This is Chloe. She's a friend of my aunt's that I stayed with in Hawaii (more on that later) and we spent the afternoon with her. She's a feisty, opinionated... Continue reading

Williams Lake bus depot
Photographer's notes: mode: Av, exposure +1/3, taken at 1/250 sec, f/5, ISO: 250 I took this at the Williams Lake bus depot on a five minute break during a bus ride home from Prince George. The sky was so beautiful I just had to! This photo is an icon of... Continue reading

Just Play
Photographer's notes: shot at 0.3 sec, at f/22, exp. +2 ISO 100 Yesturday I was working on a couple of mock-up images, looking at them and critiquing to find out how to improve. While I am usually elated to watch my imagery "come to life" in the darkroom, it left... Continue reading

What's the motivation?
Photographer's notes: shot at 1/200 sec. at f/5.6. Exposure -1.23, ISO 200. I was hand holding. I didn't have my tripod because of mobility concerns. Be advised that an image like this (low light) is better shot with a tripod. This allows for a longer exposure, a larger depth of... Continue reading

The artist's fear.
I’ve heard tons of artist, fashion designers, photographers, drawers, painters, dancers, asked ‘what inspires you?” and non of them have given a one word answer, they say anything from light, music, magazines, vegetables, clothes, and many more things in any combination. It would almost be better to ask them what doesn’t inspire them. This I can relate to, so why ever stop? Why ever stop creating when it seems like every time you turn around there is something inspiring to see, feel, touch, hear, or taste! It’s this ridiculous fear. Fear of criticism, fear of failure, and fear of not living up to you own standards, or worse an inexplicable fear with no reason at all. It is like all fear, one that builds on itself, we can be crippled by it, engulfed by it, wrapped up in it, and even comfortable in it. Continue reading

"You're the photographer"
Photographer's notes: Camera: Canon EOS 40D; Lens: 28mm-135mm; taken at 1/60 sec. at f/3.5; ISO 800; exposure -2. A Sunday Walk Photo Assignment
Last Sunday I took my friends Nomi, Taltal, and Peleg for a walk along Walker Valley; not far from where I live. We walked around Clark's Marsh, Taltal with her sketch book and Peleg and I with our cameras. As I have often mentioned in my Newsletters, some people say... Continue reading

The Snag Photo Assignment
I just realized I had forgotten to follow up on my blog posting of April 11th. This was a photo assignment that I went on with three teenagers including Teresa. Teresa chose the subject. I have to say, that when I saw the small non-descriptive snag she choose, I said... Continue reading

Direct the Eye - from Chris' Perspective!
It was amazing for me to read Teresa's last blog entry. I can't believe how fast she absorbed all that information! The greatest part for me is not only being inspired by how much and how quickly Teresa is learning, but how much I am learning! Taking into account what... Continue reading

Direct the eye
This is the same image as my previous post, but this time it's been processed-or optimized-in photoshop by Chris. You may not be able to see the difference, but it's there. Chris and I try to process and image a day together, because I'm still leaning the ins and outs... Continue reading
