I'm sitting at my computer, listening to Lady Gaga and the raucous noise of two nine year old boys playing in the living room. Megan is sitting on the extra big chair, playing with her i-phone, and I just finished making graham crackers. I'm fixin' to make a pot of... Continue reading

An almost imperceptible shift has occurred in the last 2 weeks or so; I find myself increasingly agitated, aimless and crying at the drop of a blueberry. Anxiety up and resilience down, so goes the tide, and with it, my ability to track things like appointments, important meetings, even play... Continue reading

Happy 4th of July! Henry hates fireworks. Rather, Henry hates fireworks that make big noises. He has always been wary of loud things, and like his mom (that's me, of course), he hates loud-flushing public toilets, motorcycles and when Scott sneezes (he sneezes as loud as a 2.1 second-long rock... That is really intense, Carrie. I suddenly had this image of you as a little girl, dressed in circus garb, balancing an enormous "bundle" wrapped poorly in brown paper, of multiple families on the top of your head, with startled faces and feet and elbows sticking out of the fray, even a chair leg or lamp stuck up there too, in the middle of a big top tent. What a weight. hugs.

Me, Age 3 or 4? Not a lot of people comment on my blog. Mostly because readership is relatively small, and I don't post every day. Of course, there are a zillion blogs out there. I don't kid myself that I am in any way making a dent in the... Continue reading

I tell myself stories. I do this not because I feel creative, but because I question my own legitimacy; I fear that someday, someone will see me for who I "am": a fraud. That is my fear, that the tiny, needling voice in my head that criticizes and denigrates me,... Continue reading

I stumbled across a quote from Starhawk, on Wikiquote and was captivated by her description of community. She articulated exactly how I feel, what I desire, what I yearn for. Here are her wise words: We are all longing to go home to some place we have never been —... Continue reading

Really? Rain again? <sigh>. It seems like we can only have one or two relatively nice days before a total deluge. Honestly, warm, rainy days are kind of romantic and charming...once I actually walked in the warm rain with a new boyfriend, at dusk, and picked flowers from other people's... Continue reading

I had Tracy, Eric and Emma over for dinner the other night. The best part was the homemade caramel with salted peanuts on vanilla ice-cream. The kids loved it, but the adults gorged on it! Tracy holding pure love. Emma and Henry, laughing it up. It's been a while since... Continue reading

Cake walk, cake pan, piece of cake, take the cake, let them eat many interesting things to say about cake. All I say is, YUM. Honestly, I am not a big fan of dense, homemade cake. Like Amy at Angry Chicken, I long for light and fluffy cake layers,... Continue reading

Today is our 10th anniversary. 10 years ago today, Scott and I exchanged meaningful words and a vision for our future, while Henry swam blissfully in the watery bassinet of his amniotic sac. I was 7 months pregnant. Sometimes Scott and I think that the reason the universe brought us... Continue reading

Henry, 6 months My boy is almost 10. My tiny, beautiful, sweet, amazing boy is almost 10! I have really strong feelings about how boys are raised in our culture. I see boys being taught to stuff their feelings, avoid showing any vulnerability, sadness, fear, loneliness, grief, pain, or any... Continue reading

Boden shirt, before deconstruction. Scott is taking this week off of work. Although it sometimes messes up my routine to have him home during the day, I think this will be a good week together. Our 10th anniversary is on Wed and we have a lunch date to celebrate! Very... Continue reading

It's monday. Yesterday was so busy, I felt like I was on a freight train of activity and really, I wanted to step right off. When the summer gets going, I realize that I have a ton of gardening to do. My entire front yard needs constant maintenance, and the... Continue reading

I've been sewing a dress for Emma, shown here with her mama Tracy, my oldest and dearest friend (she's even wearing the corsage I made her for mother's day!). I made up a pattern, which is really just two tubes sewn together. I did some pin-tucking on the skirt portion,... Continue reading

I woke up this morning to a super clean house, with hot coffee waiting, and the computer on and ready, even though today is "no screen time day" (like every sunday- although usually by about 2 or 3, we all find ourselves plugged in somehow). Henry made me a lovely... Continue reading

Insults, that is. You know, I am thankful for people who challenge my value system, who differ in their beliefs and who remind me why I communicate the way I do. There was once a time when I thought I was right about everything. And by everything, I mean everything.... Continue reading

Keri Smith, over at Wish Jar, has inspired the hell out of me. Her "Rebel's Manifesto" is the most inspiring thing I've read in a long time. I am taking it to heart. Keri, you're my new hero! Here's the list: I am often wary of writing what is true... Continue reading

You know, I have smoked for a long, long time. Cigarettes, that is. I started when I was 14, stealing single, menthol, Benson and Hedges lights 100's from my mother. That is what she smoked, of course. Soon, she began to give me my own pack, when I needed it.... Continue reading
