Yowch, that sounds painful! I had a really easy pregnancy first time round, so it's come as a real surprise to have any discomfort this time. I'm 29 weeks, so not tooooo much longer to go :)
Knitting: in progress
Currently in progress: Baby blanket, first mentioned here (Ravelry project page here) - I'm in no rush to finish this and am actively enjoying dragging it out (something Adam is very perplexed by, being rather more of a practical nature than me). It's actually not even on my 2011 list, altho...
Just pick one and go with it - there's not much to choose between them, except personal preference, I think one is easier than the other if you're already a crocheter (I'm not). Don't ask me which though!
Spreading the word
My sister's first ever knitting project It was a lot harder than I was expecting to teach my sister how to knit, because I now knit continental style, rather than English (which is what I was first taught), but when I taught myself continental I already could knit, so I didn't have to learn th...
Thank you! My kid has spent the week proving to me that rain doesn't matter very much as long as there are enough puddles to jump in :)
No such thing as bad weather
Only bad clothing, right? Teddy apparently agrees. Despite more or less constant rainfall the other day, he happily played outside for aaaaages (and would have stayed out longer given half a chance, but his poor mother became convinced he was going to get pneumonia). I did my best to ign...

I love those blanket kits! I'm in the UK, or I'd be sorely tempted to order one. I know what you mean about slow knitting though - I'm quite enjoying the baby blanket I'm working on, but it's not a quick finish!
a blanket for the wee one
Back in October, my mom sent Lachlan a little surprise via Purl Soho: the Super Easy Baby Blanket kit in the Rugby colorway. I got to knitting right away. But this blanket, while it's certainly easy to knit, is not what I'd call quick to knit. I tried to knit a few rows every evening, but my p...
Bless him, I can't believe he'll still relax on you! my two year old finds playing with my face/necklace/t-shirt far too interesting to fall asleep. Although he will at least let me knit while he sits on me.

What great news that you (and, crucially, Finn), will be able to stay at home in the difficult weeks and months following Lachlan's birth.
And congratulations on the book!
writing
Still waiting for my camera cord, friends. Not like I could have taken any pictures of the boys' "studio" on a gloomy day like today, anyway, but I assure you that I'm not just sitting here with nothing to do while looking out the window longingly for the mailman. I have writing on my mind t...

The chunky ones are Ostheimer, which I think are available worldwide (I got them from www.myriadonline.co.uk) and the others were from a lovely little toy shop in the North of England that my dad visits occasionally - I didn't see the brand name, so I don't know if they're available online anywhere, sorry! It's so hard to find nice wooden toys, good luck in your search!
Fun at the farm
I know Christmas feels like an age ago already, but I couldn't pass up the chance to show you the present we got for Teddy. We've literally never bought him a birthday or Christmas present (hey, the kid has a lot of grandparents, what with all our parents being divorced and remarried. He...
It's definitely worth it! i learned as a kid, but only properly picked it up again a couple of years ago.
Christmas smuggler
OK, so this is more likely to be a sensible fit in winter 2011/12, but we'll gloss over that for now and concentrate on how much I love this sweater. Apart from the throwing-down-the-stairs-before-deigning-to-wear-it that seems to happen with everything I knit for Teddy (I have convinced...

Wow, that's amazing! I'm hoping to hit a vaguely similar number this year, but the vast majority of mine will be for the new baby, so it hardly counts as challenging :)
I know what you mean about knitting keeping you sane - there is nothing to beat that feeling of relaxing on the sofa knitting when the house is peaceful and quiet after a manic day.
and one more for baby (or, my ode to knitting)
People, I recently discovered that I knit twelve sweaters last year. TWELVE sweaters*! I quite seriously thought about not telling you that, for fear of you judging my sanity. But, alas, the truth is all out there to discover whether I state it or not - this blog, Flickr, Ravelry - I cannot hi...
I can't wait to see this grow! I adore Liberty (both the fabric weight and the prints) and it's pretty much the only time I step away from organic fabrics. I wish liberty themselves did something similar to your spectrum pack - I live near the London store and every time I go there I buy yardage, but only of one or two prints!
For the love of Liberty, part 2
Hey! Happy New Year! I thought I'd be here earlier in the week, but it just didn't happen. Hope 2011 is off to a great start for all of you. The squares are cut. All 624 of them. I haven't added any from the stash yet - I need to re-do my math to see where I'm at. I figure I'll add one or...

Gorgeous! Just like the others. can't believe what a mini-you Adelaide is.
I've cast on for a tea leaves of my own (I figure only having buttons at the top will mean I CAN'T grow out of it with my ever-expanding bump) and I'm loving the pattern already.
the solstice sweaters, part two
And the two littles have their sweaters too! Harper might have the best hand gestures I've ever seen on a two-year old. For a boy who doesn't say much, he certainly says a lot (we do some signing with him, but most of them are of his own fabulous creation. Love). And yes, there was a war...

They look fantastic! Love the old fashioned sweater in a vintagey-yet-cool colourway.
I live in hope of the toddler choosing to do something other than throw my lovingly made hand knits down the stairs (once they've been down a few times, he'll usually deign to wear them. Maybe it's some kind of good luck ritual i'm not in on), but your lovely pictures and knitting have inspired me to keep trying!
the solstice sweaters, part one
Much to my surprise (but not theirs), there were four Mama-made sweaters under the tree on Solstice Night. Today...I bring you the boys. First up, the last one completed...late into the hours of Solstice Eve. Because the trouble with an old-fashioned pattern? All those seams! Oh my. Lots of ...
