Interests: I picked up knitting again seven years ago when I moved to Bielefeld to start a new job. Since then I have tried to learn new tecniques and to design. I'm starting this blog now because I enjoy reading other knitter's blogs which is always inspiring and encouraging. I'm surfchick on ravelry. I like looking for patterns there and exploring other knitters project but I miss the functions of a blog there. Apart from knitting I enjoy travelling, sports on boards on the water, reading, my balcony garden and my 2010 project " one new recipe per week". In 2012 I moved to a totally different country where I mainly need summer knits :) new challenges!

I have not had time to blog in a year so I decided to downgrade my typepad account to the free version. I keep the content up for the moment. Maybe in the future I will have time for blogging again. I enjoyed writing about knitting and still write posts... Continue reading

Also from Kelbourne Woolens baby collection these nappy covers/soakers in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. I thought these might look nicer on a summer baby then just the nappies. We'll see how hot baby's bum gets in these. There are two more patterns in the book that I want to knit!... Continue reading

I'm not so sure where to put this one because I think I have to buy some yarn and patterns!!!! Yesterday I got the Brroklyn Tweed newsletter with the link to the new Wool People Look Book. I didn't think much about it because the last few editions didn't really... Continue reading

Sure enough I have knit more things for the baby. This littel vest is from the little book 'Baby Collection' by Kelbourne Woolens. I knit it in Ultra Pima Cotton. And learned a new technique: i-cord edging. I had a great button for it in my button jar. Continue reading

I have been watching/listening to a couple of knitting podcasts lately and thought it would be nice to share! Podcasts are another great way (apart from blogs) to find out about other people's knitting lives! First up the one I've been following for a couple of years now: Never not... Continue reading

Finally I have also cast on for a colour affections shawl by Vera Valimaki! Everyone has knit one since last year. Mine is knit in Malabrigo Silkpaca which means I'm knitting the lace version. The pattern is easy to follow and the first two sections flew of the needles. I... Continue reading

I thought I show you what has been stashed in the last few months. Actually in this picture are all the skeins that sat in my stash. Which is not just new. One day in September I decided it was time for a winding session because I had been putting... Continue reading

No, the baby is not finished and these hats are not for my baby! (Garter Ridge Earflap Hat from '60 Quick Baby Knits' in left-over Cascade 220) At the moment all my friends are having babies. Earlier in the year I decided not to knit for them because postage from... Continue reading

Before I finish the blanket I think I should post the missed stitches on this! ****** A little recap: At the beginning of the year a friend and I decided that we wanted to make ourselves a granny square blanket. We both started off quite enthusiastically but somehow lost steam... Continue reading

Right after the puerperium I cast on for this little vest. You might remember this yarn from my attempt to knit a sumer top for me. I ddin't have quite enough and never loved the look of the thing. This yarn is great for baby knits though! I used the... Continue reading

The next thing I made for baby was a little cardigan. It had to be light again. And I was lucky to find that other ball of GGH Mystik. Everyone recommends to have baby close that button up on the side so I chose the Beyond Puerperium pattern. I kept... Continue reading

My cousin came to visit in May and I got a very sweet gift from her daughter: handmade stitch markers!!!! I've always wanted pretty handmade stitch markers but never got around to ordering some. All the handmade markets and shops I have been to never ever had any. The stitch... Continue reading

As soon as I was feeling up to it I wanted to make something for the baby. Every knitting mama's baby needs a blanket. This baby will be a Queensland summer baby. It is REALLY hot here in the summer (actually also in the spring and fall - this week... Continue reading

A very happy FO this! :) After getting the stitch wrong and unravelling the whole thing it pretty much flew off the needles. It does help to read pattern instructions carefully! I love this yarn (Mirasol K'acha). It is so squishy and soft and warm .... mmmh! And the colour... Continue reading

I had left-over yarn from the pullover and thought a matching hat would be great. There is actually a pattern for a proper Dragonfly hat but I had been eyeing the Butterfly hat for a while. I was currious how the butterflies are achieved and they are close to dragonflies,... Continue reading

So, sorry blogland, I have been away. I have a good reason but might be a bit late to get back here. My last post was in April! APRIL! And then I got pregnant and was sick for about three months. You wouldn't believe it but I didn't pick up... Continue reading

Today we finally started our knit-a-long aka cowl-a-long! My friend and I are knitting cowls together with wool I bought in Germany last year for exactly this pupose. The yarn is Mirasol K'acha, a Merino-Alpaca-Silk blend in purple and blue. I have used it before for my Rae scarf. I'm... Continue reading

Just a short update on what I'm knitting! I'm making good progress on the dragonfly pullover. Knitting at least two rows a day adds up! :) This doesn't do the colour justice. We actually have a pretty overcast day in Brisbane! So far so happy :) Continue reading

Better later then never! Here is my finished line break shawl! yarn: Cascade Heritage Silk pattern: Line Break by Veera Vaelimaeki This was a rather quick knit. The short rows let this grow quickly and it is easy to adjust the size to the amount of yarn one has. I... Continue reading

Look what arrived on my dorrstep today! (sorry it's upside down) This is one of my challenges for 2013. It is a the Sheep Carousel teacosy by Kate Davies. I will learn some new techniques with this: steeks, vikkel braids, corrugated ribbing and centred double decreases. The package includes enough... Continue reading

Update on granny squares! I have now 13! Look at them together: BIG LIKE! Everybody seems to like granny squares. For this I am using Moda Vera Pure Wool 8 ply from Spotlight. I went back to buy enough for 100 squares and added a couple more colours. At some... Continue reading

I mentioned the thick book I'm reading. While I love having a good read and getting totally stuck in a book I always feel like I don't do anything useful while being absorbed. It is really cool to read a book and pop out some finished knitting at the end. Stockinette... Continue reading

Off topic! What kept me busy for a few weeks was this: I sewed a queen sized quilt! Around here it is often too warm for a duvet but slightly too cool for just sheets so we needed a proper quilt. I used a deisgn from the Quilting Bee book.... Continue reading

After I finished the bag I was ready to cast on something new! I had the pattern, the wool but I still had to swatch. The wool is Cascade Heritage Silk in a lovely blue. This is a Merino superwash-silk blend. It seems quite slippery on the needles but feels... Continue reading
