Given my lack of time to write and post on here even. I've let my examiner.com writing stop and will most likely not return to that venue. While it was great, and brought in a small amount of revenue, it was usually just enough to cover the cost of the... Continue reading

Well, after making last year my very first trip to an Airventure in Oshkosh, I won't be attending the 2012 AirVenture. The 60th anniversary of the event will just have to continue on without me. Between a family vacation, work, and a surprise unplanned trip, I have no time left... Continue reading

Big shout-out and THANK YOU to Michael T. from the UK for being the first to provide a tip in my tip jar! Just a few hundred/thousand more and I'll have enough funds to get my CFI rating! Still, great to know someone like my blog enough to donate and... Continue reading

Okay, I apologize about the constant extended absences. You can thank a broken laptop, coaching two soccer teams, working extra shifts at the firehouse and well, I was left with little time for writing! I'm back, and I plan on writing much more. I missed the Rockford Airfest and will... Continue reading

Some of my fellow Chicago area pilots MAY remember AviationWorld O'Hare in Bensenville? Well, when that store was shut down by the Canadian parent company, two of it's companies didn't give up on the concept of a pilot supply and aviation enthusiast store in the area around O'Hare. Lora Yowell... Continue reading

Wow, two months without a post! Guess life caught up and snatched away all my free time! I even slowed down on the Examiner.com side, but was able to get 4 articles up this month finally. Need to get this blog active again. I've done nothing with my goal of... Continue reading

Well, my next step toward currency and being regularly back in the air is now complete. This past weekend I went and obtained my FAA medical. I went for a second class medical as the AME charged the same for a second class as he would for a third. So,... Continue reading

Not like I was counting or anything (8 years, 3 months and 9 days... or 3,023 days... or 431 weeks) how much time has elapsed since my last flight at the controls of an airplane. I went up in a C-172 out of Chicago Executive today and just did a... Continue reading

And so finally, after all these months and all this writing, my stat count on the left is finally set to change tomorrow. I've scheduled a 1-hr flight with an instructor and my daughter. As part of a school activity, I've decided to take her up for some pictures and... Continue reading

Well, I finally took the plunge and am working toward at least the written portion of my CFI certificates. I already had the Fundamentals of Instructing (FOI) book from Jeppesen, however, I just picked up the Gleim study guides for the FOI and the CFI and Ground instructor written. I... Continue reading

When the Lauderdale Air Show came to an end in 2007, the skies remained quiet along the beaches for 5 years. Today, Lauderdale Air Show LLC announced the return of the air show, beginning with the 2012 season. The show is scheduled to occur during fleet week, April 28-29, 2012.... Continue reading

The flying club I'm a member at, Windy City Flyers, posted a video on Facebook and Twitter from YouTube. It shows a dusk flight along the Chicago/Lake Michigan shoreline, with the amazing Chicago skyline lit up, (as well as Northerly Island, the former home of Meigs Field.) I can't wait... As the number of dangerous laser incidents around the country continues to rise, the FAA has rolled out a new website to make it easier for pilots and the public to report laser incidents. The website also includes a knowledge base of articles and information on the subject, highlighting the... Continue reading

Imagine climbing into the cockpit of a military jet training aircraft and being able to go for a flight whenever you wanted to. Don't think it's possible? Well, Gauntlet Warbirds, along with the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) will be hosting a seminar on Tuesday, October 11, starting at 7 pm... Continue reading

Thanks for the comment, and for following! I've actually landed a few times at that 'little' airport in Apopka during my training time at Delta Connection Academy. I even lived just a little down the road in Apopka, off near Lester and Vick. Maybe I'll work my way down there again for a flight.
I promise I'll be back writing more shortly. I've been busy with work at my full-time job due to some massive changes involved there, as well as now getting assigned/volunteering for the photo unit spot at the fire department I'm part time at. Add in family obligations, trying to meet... Continue reading

As has been plastered all over the main stream media sights, an ANA Boeing 737-700 travelling from Okinawa to Tokyo had an inflight 'upset' that resulted in two flight attendants being injured and a few passengers complaints. The incident itself took place on September 6th but wasn't brought to the... Continue reading

With the world turning their eyes skyward tonight to look for space debris, the FAA has issued a NOTAM that I don't think I ever even considered a possibility before. I did write an article on it here. However, this is just too cool, odd and well kinda scary to... Continue reading

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hiltons of Branson. All opinions are 100% mine. In May of 2009, Branson Airport (KBBG) opened up providing direct service to the Branson area for the first time to larger aircraft with a 7,140' runway and modern amenities and... Continue reading

In what BA is calling their largest pilot recruitment drive in over a decade, today they announced plans to hire 800 new pilots by 2016 due to the addition of a large quantity of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A380's to their fleet. The drive will be compromised of three... Continue reading

I was supposed to get media access to the Farmers Airship today, however, some early storms that blew through the area and expected intability and severe weather later today forced the cancellation of public access and flightseeing tours for today. I did get a few shots through the fence of... Continue reading

NC Software has announced that in honor of EAA's 2011 AirVenture, they are offering 15% off ANY software or subscription item from today through Sunday night, midnight EST. Aside from the airshows, airplanes and forums happening all around AirVenture on the event's second day, the biggest news was probably an EAA announcement made earlier in the day. Tom Poberezny, the chairman of both EAA and AirVenture, along with EAA executives, made the announcement that he will be retiring... Continue reading
