I feel like it would be wrong not to post anything about my weekend at BritMums Live this year, but the truth is I just do not have the time to write up a big long post to cover all the amazing things that I took from the weekend. I do want to write about it, don't get me wrong, but there are an awful lot of things going on "behind the scenes" right now and one of those includes changing blogging platforms. And as I have just downloaded an export of posts including all my photos, it makes very... Continue reading

Well, it's finally here... on Friday hundreds of parent bloggers will be coming together in London for BritMums Live 2014. Can you believe it? This will be my 3rd BritMums Live and it has become the highlight of my year. I just love the opportunity to meet other bloggers in person and enjoy the whole BritMums Live experience (if you've not been before, you're in for a real treat!) But I know how nervous I was my first year, despite going with a friend, because I didn't know what to expect. And I also remember being a tad nervous last... Continue reading

If you've been around here for a while, you'll surely know by now that TJ and I both love to be outdoors, especially in nature. I can't explain what exactly it is about this that I love so much, but needless to say I never feel more at peace than I do when I get out of the house and away from all the stresses of everyday life. I've done this for many years now and I remember during my second pseudo-menopause when I was hit with depression and signed off work for a month, we would take midnight walks... Continue reading

A couple of weeks ago I was at a low point in my life. I was stressed, I was sick, and I was pretty miserable. At times like that I am reminded of how very different my adult life has turned out compared to how I always imagined it would. And I very much doubt I am alone in having these feelings. But, as often happens, as I was knee-deep in these feelings (note I could have been much deeper!!) I stumbled across exactly what I needed... This book. Eat, Pray, Love is the book I have been yearning for... Continue reading

The past few months have been really challenging for us as a family healthwise. The biggest issue for me has been my digestion - having suffered from IBS for years, everything just seems to have become so much worse over the past year, with a rapid increase in symptoms since 6 months. In desperation I saw my GP when nothing seemed to be helping and weight loss was added to the mix. He referred me to a gastroenterologist and after a busy few weeks of various investigations, I finally saw the gastroenterologist for a follow up on Monday. It appears... Continue reading

In just under 3 weeks I'll be heading off down to London for my third BritMums Live and I haven't got a clue what to wear. I'll confess right here and now: I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to "fashion" and as I work from home these days I rarely think about putting together an outfit. So working out what to wear for 2 days away (when those outfits will not end up smeared in food or paint or felt tip or whatever else Little Man usually throws at me) is both exciting and rather alarming!... We've been slowly redecorating our (rented) house for the past couple of years now and we're finally at the point of thinking about our bedroom. We've been putting it off for so long and, quite frankly, I'm still not looking forward to the actual decorating part of it. But the other day I came across a wall plaque that really caught me eye and made my heart leap because I knew, there and then, that this was the inspiration for our bedroom. Everything about this sign is just perfect - the soft pink roses, the sweet reminder of how "our... Continue reading

I cannot believe that in just 3 weeks I will be packing my bags ready to head off to London for my 3rd BritMums Live. How has it come around this fast and how can it be my third year already? When I went to my first one in 2012 it was a real eye-opener... it showed me how much I love socialising and being around people who are all passionate about something (whether it's food, crafts, technology, family life, health... or just simply friendship!) I almost didn't book a ticket this year as I thought it would be too... Continue reading

It's been a few days since I started out in my quest to find the joy in the everyday moments, and so far I have discovered a couple of things. First, it can be very difficult to notice these little things because you are so used to only documenting the "big stuff" that you miss the little things or feel they aren't worth noting. And the second is that because of the first it is very important to take the time to try and find joy in the small things because it shouldn't be that difficult! If you follow me... Continue reading

These past few weeks have been a total whirlwind for me. It seems like pretty terrible timing that in the month when I had 4 hospital appointments (3 of them for investigations) I also completed my Nine Months Of challenge, had an auction to organise, and finished the final edit of the book I have been writing. My feet have quite literally not left the ground and I feel like I haven't stopped... And in amongst all of that, all the major achievements that were going on (such as getting the book to the publisher and seeing lots of fundraising... Continue reading

Morning all. After the flurry of the past couple of weeks (both with hospital appointments and work) I find myself sitting here on the morning of 15th May, a date I have been working towards all year, realising I have not even thought about what I would write today. And that surprises me, because for all the work I do in the HG World and all the times I think about it, I somehow seem to have been avoiding writing a post like this. What does HG (Hyperemesis Gravidarum) mean to me? I actually and honestly do not know where... Continue reading

Well, we're on the final countdown. Tomorrow I will launch my second Handmade Auction to raise funds for Pregnancy Sickness Support and so it is about time I finished sharing the gorgeous donations we've had with you all. We actually have several donations still to come in, so I will add those to the auction later on (it's running for 10 days, so there is still plenty of time for last minute arrivals!) But for now it's the turn of the cardigans, jumpers, hats and mittens for babies and toddlers. Last year we had a fair few donations of items... Continue reading

Those of you who have been around for a while will know just how long I have been working on a book about severe pregnancy sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum. And so I am beyond excited to share with you all the good news that it has finally been submitted to our publisher! I decided to vlog about it (because, quite frankly, I've done enough writing this weekend and I also knew I couldn't express what I was feeling in writing for once!) So here goes... And as promised in the video, here are the links you may want: Pregnancy Sickness... Continue reading

Well, we're on the final countdown. In just over one week I will launch my second Handmade Auction to raise funds for Pregnancy Sickness Support (PSS) and so it is about time I started sharing the gorgeous donations we've had with you all. Today it's the turn of the jewellery donations we have received - and boy have we received some gorgeous pieces! Thanks go to my sister and my mother-in-law for their extremely generous donations. Please note - all measurements are approximate and do not include the length of the clasp so drop may vary slightly from one design... Continue reading

Well, we're on the final countdown. In just a couple of weeks I will launch my second Handmade Auction to raise funds for Pregnancy Sickness Support and so it is about time I started sharing the gorgeous donations we've had with you all. Today it's the turn of the blankets. Last year my grandma donated 2 crocheted lap/baby blankets and they were a massive hit. I couldn't believe how many people were bidding on them and so this year I have worked hard to ensure we had several blankets in the auction. I have made 3 blankets, my grandma has... This week, Little Man and I have been mostly found in the garden. Last week Little Man had chicken pox and was home all week we me. We started trying to go out in the garden a bit but it wasn't nearly as gloriously bright and sunny as it has been this week. So whilst he has been back at nursery 2 days this week, we have still taken every opportunity to get outside. This has included tromping around in the morning dew wearing nothing but his pjs, a coat and some boots! He honestly loves to be out in... Continue reading

As you've probably already figured out, I am a major advocate for raising awareness of Hyperemesis Gravidarum and supporting women and their families suffering from severe pregnancy sickness. And this isn't just because I work for a charity doing just that! Since my own pregnancy I have been passionate about creating change so that other women never have to feel as isolated, scared and helpless as I did. As a volunteer (and now member of staff) for the charity Pregnancy Sickness Support (PSS) I have met so many amazing women who have experienced exactly the same isolation and suffering and... As we get nearer to Easter I should be excitedly planning fun activities for us to share over the long weekend as well as looking forward to my birthday at the end of the month. I mean, I turn 30 in just over 2 weeks time - that's worth celebrating, right? Except the last thing I feel like doing right now is celebrating. I am sick. And it isn't getting any easier. I've been struggling from intermittent nausea since Little Man was 3 months old but it has been getting progressively worse until suddenly it has become completely unbearable. I... Continue reading

With just over a month left until International Hyperemesis Gravidarum Awareness Day and my handmade auction to raise funds for Pregnancy Sickness Support, I am pleased to share with you the donations that have already arrived! As you can see, my own contributions have been joined by some really beautiful items created by some truly talented crafters. There are knitted cardigans and jumpers ranging in size from premature baby through to 18-24 month old toddler, hats for babies, toddlers and adults, as well as a scarf and a cowl for ladies and mittens and bootees for babies. What a collection... Continue reading

The other day I wrote a blog post about feeling guilty as a wife, mother and friend. It got quite a varied response, with one friend telling me she felt exactly the same a lot of the time and then a different friend asking me why I was letting so much guilt in when this should be the "happiest time of your life". At first my response was that these past two years have been the most stressful of my life in many, many ways. I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum during pregnancy, then I started having problems with nausea and... Continue reading

If you've been following my blog for a while you'll know just how much I have enjoyed BritMums Live the past two years and therefore how excited I am to be going again. I ummed and ahhed about going this year because of the cost and the fact I haven't been well, but when it came to the crunch I just couldn't miss it. My ticket has been bought, my hotel room has been booked, and childcare has been sorted. Which means the next step is to join in the BritMums Live Linky and find out who else is going.... I hadn't planned on writing so much about how I am struggling right now, but it seems as if writing about these things is more important than I realised. This past week I have written two posts about my health and each one has received over 200 hits - my blog never receives that much interest in one day, let alone twice in one week! And this has given me the confidence to know that it's okay to use this space to share how I'm feeling. And right now, sharing how I am feeling is so important because I need... Continue reading

I'd like to take a moment to talk about Mental Health and the way it can impact on the way we react to our own emotional triggers. I've never hidden the fact that I have suffered from depression. However I have never taken the time to express how and why this impacts on the way I react to things and why I am so passionate about raising awareness of various causes. This is not because I haven't wanted to, but rather I haven't been able to pinpoint a specific situtation in which it is clearly demonstrated. Until today. This morning... Continue reading

It feels like I haven't blogged about Endometriosis in a very, very long time. Too long in fact, because right now I seem to be having major issues with it all again. I think the last time I posted properly about it was way back in 2010, before I fell pregnant. I commented on it once or twice during pregnancy and then again last year, but to be honest I have been not-so-blissfully unaware of its impact on my life for quite some time. And that's not to say it hasn't been having an impact, but rather other things have... Continue reading

Welcome to the third tutorial in my Crochet Basics series of photo tutorials. Today's tutorial brings me to a point where I have to make a decision - do I use UK or US terminology? As I'm a UK blogger you'd think I'd use UK terminology, but to be honest I learnt using US terminology as that is what I came across the most in online tutorials. And so I'm going to go with that. It is confusing that we have different terms for the same stitches, and you always need to make sure you know which terminology a pattern... Continue reading
