Still going strong
I am so proud to announce that we have passed up my old record of breastfeeding. My oldest only breastfed for 8 months and it wasn't exclusive. She had supplementation with formula from about 5 months on because I went back to work and did not respond well to pumping.... Continue reading

WAHM Cloth Diapers - Tangerine.Baby
So I figure us CDing bettys need to start reviewing some of the CDs we've been buying. There are a lot of us and we are all buying different WAHM products from Hyenacart and Etsy so I thought it might be useful if we start reviewing them. I'll start us... Continue reading

Weekly Bit O' Science - Brain Tumor Vaccine
So as I was digging around for something interesting in science this week I found an article about a potential vaccine for a specific type of brain tumor - a dendritic cell vaccine for mesenchymal glioblastomas. A glioblastoma is a tumor caused by rapid growth and reproduction of glial cells... Continue reading

Hi, I'm a Betty and I'm addicted to Bettyville.
I first found out I was pregnant at 7 weeks. I had an inclination before, but due to an earlier miscarriage decided to wait to take a test. At 10 weeks I went to my Dr. and the rest is history. I'm a 27 year old first time mom, who... Continue reading

Balance
I have a baby fussing in the bouncer - the washer and dryer running, with 2 more loads at least. Dishes are done, house has been swiffered and the bathroom and bedrooms still need to be cleaned. I have PGA golf on in the background, it's like they're cheering for... Continue reading

Adoption
It's been 10 years since my first child was born. 10 years of regret and heartache...of tears and of sadness. I have been told so many times that "it gets easier every year" and for some, that may be true. For me, every birthday of his that passes makes it... Continue reading

Valentine's Day
Most people would think I'd be a complete wreck for Valentine's Day since that is the day that Kyle proposed. Well, the truth is it will suck, but as a single mom I have the best valentine anyone could ever ask for. My daughter is the best ever and I'll... Continue reading

Paprika Roasted Chicken
A healthy, easy meal. This one has to cook for a while but requires very little hands on time. Which is great with a baby and working at home. It's also very easy to substitute things in this recipe. Also, pretty inexpensive if you buy the chicken when it's on... Continue reading

Chronic Over Tiredness
Chronic Over Tiredness or C.O.T. as my husband has affectionately nicknamed it. I believe my daughter and I are currently plagued with it. I think I got more sleep when she was a newborn. Well, I know I did but that was because I often napped when she did. There... Continue reading

How do you listen to music and watch videos on the go?
A Family Again
Maddox has now been home for a week. And boy what a week it has been. You would think that it would be easy to just fall back into a routine but not so would be the case.
Sunday--It was an M&M day for me. We spent the whole day taking naps, watching shows and cuddling!! It was great!!
Monday--Another M&M day for us! But at 4:00 I went to the Doctor with Maddox while Daddy and Kenna went shopping. They wanted to diagnose Maddox with asthma. That did not go over well. In the end I won and they said they would wait to "label" him as I called it.
Tuesday--First day back at daycare. Ugh! How I loathe sending them each day! Kenna was excited because she got to spend time with her "Prince" after school. Her Prince used to be her Daddy until she met the 5 year old neighbor boy named Tyler.
Wednesday--SNOW DAY!! We got about 8" of snow here.
Thursday--Back to the grind of working and daycare. Got to see some of my favorite clients but it was a late night!!
Friday--We went to see my brother's girlfriend play basketball for her school's homecoming. Had dinner with my family and crawled into bed super late!!
Saturday--It was Daddy's turn for an M&M day. I had clients and he hung out with the kids. Makenna got to play in the snow for the first time ever! She loved it!! She perfected the art of snow angels and throwing snow at Daddy!! We finished up the night watching Lion King 2 and Toy Story 2 as a family.
Maddox and Makenna have fallen back into their routines pretty easily. Mommy and Daddy....not so easy. After an event like what we went thru with Maddox you appreciate your time with your kids even more. You want to make sure that you give them that one last kiss and hug good-night. You make sure that they're extra tucked in before bed. And for every little noise that you hear...you jump out of bed to make sure that all is well. But above all else, you make sure they know that they are loved. Continue reading

For karma and spirit...
It's hard to believe that when you look at me I was a sorority girl. I still am in some respects. Sororities tend to have a bad reputation, but that's because people fail to look further into what the Greek system does. Most of the time the Greek system is... Continue reading

What it's like to be a single parent
Way to often I get asked the question "What is it like to be a single mom?" Normally the answer is the same answer I give everyone. "It's not to hard it's just hard at the times when I miss her daddy." Well after being asked tonight for the hundredth... Continue reading

It's been awhile...
I went back to work on Monday, January 3rd. It's hard to leave my little one at home. But, knowing that she is staying with family makes it easier! Also, I've only had to wake her up and get her ready once. The other times, my family has come over... Continue reading

Is there a person in your life who always has a hug and makes you feel better when they're around? Who is it – and what do you love about them?
As I sit here and listen to the buzzes and beeps of the machines that Maddox is hooked up to, I start to cry. Not for the fear of what's going on with him, but the lack of ability to switch places with him. The helplessness and hopelessness that I have in my heart right now compares to none other.
They call him the "Happy Wheezer". This means he flirts with all of the Doctors and Nurses with his huge smiles and big blue eyes while he struggles for air. He gasps and retracts and chokes to make them smile. He struggles to sleep as he tries to get comfortable with the IV and oxygen tubes taking over his small lethargic body. And I ask myself, why can't that be me God? Why did you allow this to happen to Maddox? He's the baby! He's never done anything to hurt anyone!! Take me!! Don't put him thru this! But, God doesn't respond to my plea's to make me sick instead.
I want so badly to pick him up and cuddle him and know that everything in the world is perfect as I lay him down in his own crib. I want to tuck both kids in at night and then go snuggle into bed and know that it will all be alright as my husband holds me and we both drift to sleep. But tonight again I will settle for every two hours or less being woken up to make sure he’s doing ok. I will sleep on a pull out recliner just to be as close to him as I can be. I wouldn’t be anywhere else in the world but listening to him happily wheeze himself to sleep.

It still amazes me how a single item can bring back a flood of memories and allow you to reflect on the past. The past serves two purposes in my life: to remind me how far I've come and to allow me to learn from mistakes I've made. Today I... Continue reading
