Joe,
It's been entertaining here for the nearly four years I've tuned in. Time sure passes quickly. I've enjoyed you Joe and the many, many others of you who follow the blog whether I've interacted with you or not. I will be riding off into the sunset at midnight. Return? I never say never. But not in the near term. I want to especially thank Ben Green who originally pointed out Hey Joe to me....and to the Outback gang, '81, Doc, GoSt8 & USMC that kept me updated with texts, phone calls and photos. Good luck to all and as the retired marine often says.."Fair winds and following seas!"
Draft review: Jerel Worthy
Now that it's over, what does it mean? I figured it would be a good idea to go through each of MSU's six draftees and review the reaction to each pick, nationally and in each NFL city. Here's the Green Bay Press-Gazette's profile of Worthy and story on the pick (with the revelation that ...
To 89 Chemistry:
Your post at 4:48 PM EST (4-14-12) two threads back was amazing, correct, and, if I may say.....noble as well. A deep tip of the ten gallon hat to you 89!
MSU scrimmage: Defense dominates offense
Will Gholston and Joel Heath each had two sacks, Johnny Adams had two picks -- one returned for a touchdown -- and the MSU defense won the green jerseys with a 72-32 domination of the offense in the first scrimmage of the spring. Andrew Maxwell threw a touchdown pass to Andre Sims Jr. but al...

Putting Nix to bed
Derrick Nix left it all at the podium in front of the glaring lights, cameras, recorders, reporters and supporters Thursday, then Tom Izzo had some words. First of all, here are all of those words: NIX: "Good afternoon everybody, I'm Derrick. I just want to say it's embarrassing to even ...

Gary Harris
Good story here on Indiana's Mr. Basketball.
Hey Joe,
Enjoyed the Gary Harris link/story. I think he'll be a great fit in Izzo's program. His parents sound like they didn't want to start the colt too fast, but had different ideas on which race he should run. In the end, they encouraged him to be open-minded and not have a one-track mind. I see him at the pole position.

Good story here on Indiana's Mr. Basketball.
Back in them backwoods swamp-lands, a woman went into labor in the middle of the night, and the muffin doctor was called out to assist in the delivery. Since there was no electricity, the drmuffin handed the father-to-be a lantern and said, "Here, you hold this high so I can see what I'm doing." Soon, a baby boy was brought into the world. "Whoa there," said doc. "Don't be in a rush to put the lantern down...I think there's a second one coming." Sure enough, within minutes he had delivered a baby girl. "No, no, don't be in a great hurry to be putting down that lantern...it seems there's yet a third one in there!" cried our drmuffin, while glancing at his smart phone for Hey Joe updates. The father scratched his head in bewilderment and asked the distracted doctor, "Do you think it's the light that's attractin' 'em?"
Farewell to John
Take some time and read this collection of John Schneider columns as he prepares for a new direction in life. Clearly, the deeply personal ones left an impact on people. Here's more from John on where you can find him after he leaves the LSJ. In the sports world, Ferris State's chase for...
I would make this war as severe as possible, and show no symptoms of tiring until Gannett begs for mercy.
Can Kansas-Kentucky crack this top 10?
Anyone excited about this game? Anyone agree with this well-argued sentiment that a Kentucky title changes the college game for the worse? Anyone think Kansas has a chance? Bigger upsets have happened, but I'm not optimistic about Kansas' ability to pull this off. I think if you put Bill Sel...

Green is MSU's 3rd national POY
The NABC announced tonight that Draymond Green is its Division I Player of the Year, and Tom Izzo is its Division I Coach of the Year. If there was any doubt about Green's jersey hanging from the Breslin Center rafters -- I had zero doubt, for the record, that it should and would hang -- this sh...
Ah, the saga of liver-eating-Johnson.
written by Raymond W. Thorp and Robert Bunker, is the true story of John Johnston (last name is alternately spelled "Johnston" and "Johnson"—the latter version was a spelling mistake made by the Union Army when he joined in 1864). The tale begins with the stark pronouncement that in May 1847, Crow Indians killed and scalped Johnston's young, pregnant wife. Johnston had been away for months on a fur trapping expedition and upon his return to their cabin finds the skeletal remains of his wife and the evidence that she had been pregnant. For many years after, Johnston is bent on killing Crow, scalping them and extracting and eating their raw livers. This explanation thus explains the title of the book. In 1972, the story was made into a major motion picture starring Robert Redford. The movie's title, "Jeremiah Johnson" uses his middle name, Jeremiah, as his first name.

St. Louis 61, Memphis 54
The West Region has its speed killer. St. Louis grounded Memphis tonight at Nationwide Arena and will be a tough opponent for MSU on Sunday -- if the Spartans can get past LIU-Brooklyn. Still, I think MSU is better off with the Billikens than the Tigers. Why? St. Louis is solid, big, well-co...
Sorry for asking...I just realized you were merely indicating which direction the flags were blowing.
Blackbirds chirping?
Eh. As trash talk goes, this is pretty mild (remember New Mexico State from two years ago?), but when asked about his team's seeding, Julian Boyd said: “I feel it’s a much better matchup than if we got a 15 and played like a Missouri or something like that. Being that we are a 16 seed, I feel li...

Hey Joe,
Just read the "On the road with Joe Rexrode and the Spartans"
feature on the LSJ Front Page.
Link here: http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/interactive/article/20120315/GW02/120315003/On-road-Joe-Rexrode-Spartans
Enjoyed the photos as well....ESPECIALLY the one of you at the gas pump in Findlay, Ohio, with your right hand very visibly extending a prominent middle finger.........was that 1) PURELY accidental? 2) The Evil Twin? 3) Your opinion of Findlay, Ohio? 4) A celebration of MSU's seed number? 5) Photographer Rod Sanford's IQ? 6) A deeper black"BIRD" heralding? 7) All of the above? 8) None of the above? 9) NO COMMENT?

I share your concern.
Down to 64
Now it's really tournament time. So here's my bracket (on the left side) and a look at the Spartans' choice: To run or to run a little bit less. "Probably if I look back on the zillions of mistakes I've made, the one that I've made stubbornly was the different times we played Carolina and ju...

O,D in March
MSU had both in Indianapolis -- an offense with everything working and a defense that suffocated for stretches and relied as usual on its underrated overseer. Green underrated? On that end of the floor, yeah, especially in terms of his impact on what everyone else is doing. Also today, Presi...
That was weird wasn't it. I had offered a meager prize
(a Texas memento) and still have it, so I guess I'll give it to this year's winner.
Potential winners---just know this; the history of winning this bracket contest has an ominous disappearance twist.
At least it gave u, me & doc a chance to get together.
