So yah, I recently heard that a friend of mine has a mom living a few streets over. She has an old house, not unlike the one that I live in. Difference? She has snakes in her basement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, living geographically where we do, I realize that poisonous snakes are... Continue reading

As I am now working on making homemade liquid hand soap, I wanted to find a fragrance that I love and which the whole family would tolerate. FireSky, a luxury resort in Scottsdale, Arizona where I visited last March, has recently sent me ten each of their deliciously perfumed facial... Continue reading

Have you heard the phrases "he marches to his own beat" or "he dances to a different drum"? I think that, if explored more closely, every person on this planet would apply. Sometimes, I think we jump to conclusions about "different drummers". We automatically assume that they are "special" and... Continue reading

Update: while this situation and the life lesson it taught my children were unforgettable, I wish to remind all good-hearted people that it's not hard for someone to take advantage of your kindness. While poverty and struggling families will always be on my thought-list, I will also remember those who fight so hard for the less fortunate. And I will feel sadness for those who have been hurt thru their giving and wish for strength for those who have given too much.

Courtesy of knowledge I've gained from my good friend Kelly Franklin...some awesome ideas on how to save money by making your own cleaning products... Window Cleaner Supplies Needed: 1 spray bottle, dish soap, water, squeegee (optional) 1.) Add three drops of your favorite dish soap to your bottle. 2.) Fill... Continue reading

Just got this miniature roll-top desk. I was perusing the spray paints at Wal-Mart tonight, but, alas, they were scant. I need suggestions, pics, pins on Pinterest...! Continue reading

I definitely "unknit" daily by literally "not knitting". My mom tried to teach me to crochet, but the scarf I made kept getting wider and wider.... I aspire to be like you, but I realize that's not me. I garden, I write, I refinish furniture, and I love my children. So we have those wonderful qualities in common. However, I will have to continue to live vicariously through your posts. I enjoy them very much. :)

As I continue to "de-clutter" our house for the month (today I sold quite a bit, thank goodness), I was stressed out, grinding teeth, fretting about chaos and mess...basically, status quo. We happened to need to make a delivery to a mom who had purchased items from me from a... Continue reading

For those of you who have been following my blog (thank you, by the way - big hugs to you), it's no secret that I'm a fan of the book The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, the best birthday gift my mom has ever given me. Without having read that... Continue reading

Seriously, what's not to love about clearance Valentine's Day candy? And when you turn truffles into teeny-tiny confetti cupcakes, you can bet they're landing in my cart. Continue reading

versus what God has in store for us are often very different. In my early 20s, I was told by a Harvard-educated fertility doctor that I could not have children without the use of significantly invasive procedures (Google "I.C.S.I.") When my husband and I met and made a covenant that... Continue reading

I thought I'd share the tidbits of information that I learned in my quest to make Lulu's sixth birthday party special while also cutting some financial corners. When first I set out, I did the obvious - I Googled "birthdays on a budget". BAM! Ideas everywhere!! Some were inexpensive but... Continue reading

For those who wonder, I wrote this in third person because I guess I wanted this read from an outsider's perspective. PS - I didn't edit this, nor do I routinely edit any of my work. I don't believe in "creative writing" classes any more than I believe in "breathing to stay alive" classes, as I don't think either are skills you learn through a teacher.

Love, love, LOVE this website - and all I wanted to do was find alternatives to peanut butter for making homemade bagel birdfeeders! http://www.makeandtakes.com/ Henry's currently hooked on Angry Birds on my iPhone, and I really dislike wrestling with him everyday for control of it (sigh). This website has a... Continue reading

Another deliciously wonderful website for writers and readers that I've stumbled on. It's a great place to find quotes from your favorite authors or pundits directly relating to a subject that interests you (i.e. finance, religion, child-rearing): http://www.bookrags.com I don't have Walden Pond, like Henry David Thoreau. However, that doesn't... Continue reading

As I hear the sounds of three young children bickering upstairs, I will quickly post my blog update to keep myself accountable. Having just recently finished Gretchen Rubin's The Happiness Project, I'm challenging myself for the month of February to de-clutter, organize and clean my house. I've started today by... January....even with its unseasonably warm temps and lack of two feet of snow covering my van...is the roughest month of the year for me. Have I said it before? I'll say it again...January is ROUGH for me. While in the midst of major life changes and also looking for ways... Continue reading

Organizing Your Homeschooling Day. For those of us about to homeschool, we salute you!
