It's been a long time since I posted anything on this blog. Sometimes you just need a break, or you can't find anything profound to say, or "life" just takes you in another direction. Today I picked up one of Earl's books, and found many things to share. The writings... Continue reading

Dr. Earl Reum passed away two years ago today, but his presence was evident during every moment of the NAWD Conference in Pinehurst, North Carolina, last weekend. There were many stories told about Earl, funny things remembered, how he affected each of our lives, and how his work made an... Continue reading

While everyone else is counting down to Christmas and the winter holidays, I am counting down the days until the National Conference on Student Activities at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina and even though I have been so much busier before the conference this year than ever before, (for a... I haven't posted anything for awhile, and I apologize for that. There are so many things that needed to be done for the conference and for my family, and somehow writing something which may or may not be read got pushed further down the list. Apologies, but thanks for checking... Continue reading

Saw this magnet at a little gift shop on Interstate 5 out in the middle of nowhere. Make it your purpose for the year, and be sure your students realize what a difference they can make, too. Continue reading

This morning, the information about the 2012 National Conference on Student Activities went up on the NAWD Website. In the next few days, I want to share with you some of the information about the conference. Let's start with the location. In 2012, Colby Cochran and Elliott Mathis will be... Continue reading

Sherman Jackson from Mississippi sometimes sends me wonderful things that brighten my day and makes me appreciate life. He recently shared this and I thought you might appreciate it, too. Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it... Continue reading

I love making quick, useful, pretty things, and this is an oldie but a goody. We're not big on recycling but we do reuse plastic grocery bags for cat litter and trash, and they are hard to contain. A long time ago I purchased something through Etsy and the lady... Continue reading

Pillow cases make such great projects. You can make them in less than an hour, and using the rolled cuff technique and a serger, they look very professional. I saw the original Star Wars movies, and my favorite quote (above) is from Yoda in one of them. I wouldn't call... Continue reading

If you asked me my favorite color, it wouldnt be red, but every time I start to sew lately, it almost always has red in it. I got some cute lady bug fabric fairly recently, and one morning recently I was thinking that I could stitch two different colored pieces... Continue reading

We are pleased to announce that Steve Spangler will be the Friday night speaker at the National Conference on Student Activities at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, November 30 through December 2. Steve will share a new presentation about the science of leadership. Those who heard Steve speak in 2002... Continue reading

I don't remember the last time I made a quilt or other large projects, but I have been completing some small things. I seem to always have just a tiny work space and all around me are bobbins, feet, fabric, patterns and lots of "stuff." When I cleaned my sewing... Continue reading

The Earl Reum Award is presented annually at the National Conference on Student Activities/NAWD. Like it's namesake, this award honors applicants for years and years of work with adults. Since Earl was a "trainer of trainers," this award recognizes those who train advisers who then go back to their schools,... Continue reading

Several weeks ago, while John was away, I made a few things for baby gifts. I had seen these cute iron-on ties at Strawberry Patches. They were made by Basic Gray, and there were three in a package so I got some onesys and ironed them on. This was a... Continue reading

I've been getting some great ideas from the blogs I've been reading. But when I see a picture of something I like, I always want to tweak it just a little. Recently I saw a large poppy handbag. I wish I could tell you which blog gave me the idea... Continue reading

Thank you. I wish the pictures were better. No, I still can't post photos with Internet Explorer, but I took your advice and loaded Firefox. It's not as convenient switching back and forth but at least it works.

The most convenient entrance and exit for our house for friends and family is through my sewing room. If you come into the house any other way, you have to come up stairs, but by parking in the upper driveway and coming in through the back of the house, there's... Continue reading

This has been so frustrating. Internet Explorer is a popular program. Your update should have been tested in that before the release. For me, the only thing that worked was to download Firefox and do my blogging in that, then go back to Internet Explorer where all my bookmarks and history are located. I know that's the route other bloggers have had to take. Typepad owes us an apology.

I admit it...I'm fairly new to Pinterest, and I thought it was just a good place to post ideas for craft projects or decorating or beautiful accessories, lovely homes, gardening, or other things related to lifestyle. But tonight, Phyllis Martin, a long-time NAWD member from Arkansas repinned some ideas to... Continue reading

May 1 is Mother Goose Day. Take this opportunity to have your leadership students connect with Elementary students in your community. Have your students contact kindergarten or first grade teachers and volunteer to come to their classroom and read students a nursery rhyme or story. Let the teacher determine which...
