Still in the joy-fog of excitement over the adoption, I was even more surprised to receive my first-ever Mother's day card from my step-mother-in-law, Linda. "Your baby girl is blessed to be born into a family where love is a way of life." So sweet! Thank you. Happy Mother's day... Continue reading

Taking a Cessna over Kauai, Hawaii. Getting some R & R at the Marriott resort in Kauai, Hawaii. Waimea Falls at Waimea Valley Botanical Gardens, Oahu, Hawaii. Honestly, we thought the wait for a baby could be years, when we first started the adoption process... But, we got the call yesterday that a birthmom in Arkansas wanted to meet us! I am curently in Hawaii on vacation with my Mom and Thad is home in Birmingham. Both... Continue reading

We finished the nursery! We finished it for the home study (though not required per se) but also, just in case we 'get the call' about a birth mom, a baby, a lead - - we want to be ready. It is in our nature to be planners and preparers.... Continue reading

Today my Mom and Dad bought us our first baby gift: the Baby Brezza. They are totally on-board with this adoption, can you tell??? It's like a Keurig for baby formula and a must-have for someone, like us, who will only be bottle-feeding. There is a formula "tank" on top... Continue reading

I found something online that I believe completely and accurately sums up how we feel about our pending adoption: "Adoption: Not a second choice, a fallback option or because you can't have 'your own,' but wholly believing you are seeking to bring home the very child God created with you... We have been staying in Silver Spring, MD, right outside of Washington, DC. Our flights were cancelled yesterday because of the snow/ice. Luckily we were able to get our rental car and hotel room for an extra day. Delta kindly re-routed us through DTW (Detroit Metro Airport), instead of Atlanta,... Continue reading

During the adoption home study process, we have completed lots of paperwork, written autobiographies, answered discussion questions, been FBI-fingerprinted, been cleared with the Child Abuse & Neglect center, provided countless documents (marriage certificate, birth certificates, pet vaccination records, college diplomas, tax records, etc) as well as a complete financial statement.... It's decided. We are not using an Adoption Agency or an Adoption Facilitator. Instead, we've gotten an Attorney. We are a few more steps closer to being paper pregnant! The Attorney. Tonight we talked for 45 minutes with our Attorney in Arkansas who will be handling our adoption. It went... Continue reading

We flew to New York City yesterday. It was brisk but beautiful and we rode around downtown, upper east side and midtown. We drove near the Empire State Building, the famous Macy's department store and saw other sites along the way. I love looking at the towering buildings and watching... Continue reading

Today we finally move from the snow laden landscape of New Jersey to a snow free (but still cold) Washington DC. It's been a while since we have been here. The last time was during the Cherry Blossom festival last year. There was also an Oriental Heritage festival going on.... Continue reading

Sunday, October 6th (2013) Mom and I were in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The photo is self-explanatory, but words that come to mind: Breathtaking. Surreal. Peaceful. It was windy and the clouds moved quickly across the landscape. There were no sounds except the winds wisking the tides to the rocks. There... Continue reading

Here is our resort: the Renaissance La Concha (Marriott). It's very 'fancy' and inside the lobby feels more like a Miami club, full of sleek materials, bikini bodies and full-priced cocktails. But it was free (we used points to stay), so zero complaints. Plus, as Marriott Platinum members, we were... Continue reading

Ever since I first saw Fort Morgan I have been in love with forts. It would be a dream of mine to build my own compound out of stacked stones and mortar. I am not sure if it is the geometric design or the 20'' thick walls. I imagine being... Continue reading

There are times in life when you just have to let go of yourself. Being at Disney is one of those times. I am normally somewhat of a fuddy-duddy, but being at Disney to my dismay, brings out my inner child and frees me...to explore my imagination. The fun that... Continue reading
