Awesome! Congratulations! It was such a great day for racing. :)
Harrisburg Marathon Recap
Last September, Sara had us write out our bucket list. If you look back, my number one was this: Run a marathon (+ eventually qualify for the Boston Marathon). In October 2011, I completed half that goal. I ran a marathon. And on Sunday, I completed the other half of that goal during the Harr...
Thanks Monica! Are you the Monica I met at the Shelter Shuffle 5K? You should have said hi! Although I don't know how responsive I was right after I finished running, haha.
How did your relay team do?

Oh yes, I DEFINITELY went through withdrawl. I've had a few since I've finished Whole30, but I am still trying to avoid them as much as possible. It's tough though!
And I was SO happy to reintroduce cheese and booze back in and not have any negative results. Phew!
5 Ways Whole30 changed my diet
From Oct. 1-30, I participated in the Whole30 program. I shared my first two weeks with you, and I promised an update at the end. Bottom line: As hard as it was (and there were definitely some tears shed throughout), I am so glad I did it. I feel like I've developed a healthier relationship ...
I agree, it's definitely great motivation.
I normally agree that $255 is WAY too high, but I think it's worth it for the NYC one.
Race Costs: Worth it?
This year, to run the New York City Marathon (which takes place this Sunday), it would cost $255. This cost doesn't include lodging, travel or other expenses. It's $255 just for a bib. I was one of an estimated 90,000 runners who entered the lottery for a chance to run 26.2 miles through the ...
I love to do races as part of a getaway. I've done NYC and Virginia Beach and am hoping to add more.
I think it's worth it too. Obviously, haha.

Trust me, I'm a girl who was known for her love of grilled cheese! The first few days of no grains was pretty tough, but now I am used to it. I don't even really miss them.
I won't lie, the no alcohol is the absolute hardest for me. That will definitely be my first post-Whole30 treat!
I think it's so interesting to see how your body reacts to it. It's been kind of crazy. I am glad I did it though. I never, ever drank plain water before, and now it's all I drink! I also sleep better and feel like I'm faster running.
And the good thing about the 30 days? There is a light at the end of the tunnel! Haha :) Now, I just have to see how well I can do post-Whole30...
Why I'm doing Whole30
For the month of October, I am doing "the Whole30." Photo from whole9life.com The Whole30 program, created by the whole9 community, involves eating only whole and unprocessed foods for 30 full days. I discovered Whole30 this summer after reading It Starts with Food, and I thought it was an in...
I definitely agree it's easier if you have a partner in crime. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Thanks Erin! It's getting easier with time, but some days are still rough.
I think I'll stick to many of the principles of whole30, but I really miss having a drink or two! :)

5 Steps to Fall Fitness
Now that it's officially fall, we are already seeing all the major signs of the season. The temperatures have dropped, dawn comes later, it gets darker earlier, pumpkins are plentiful, the leaves are changing, and I have even reluctantly retired my flip flops. As we transition into the coole...
I am a member of River Runners, but I've only been to one run. Now that I'm back in the game, I'll have to join you guys!
An ode to Saturday morning runs
When I was injured from April to August, I really missed running. I thought about it constantly. It was a huge void in my life that I couldn't fill. But Saturday mornings were the worst. For the past two years, rain or shine, my Saturday mornings were devoted to long runs. The tradition bega...
You can definitely run long distances, you just have to build it up! :)
And thank you for the birthday wishes!

Thanks!
And I agree, I definitely cringed paying $100 for shoes that are supposed to be the same as running barefoot. I like them so far though!
Running down a dream {Minimalist Shoes}
As runners, we tend to be pretty loyal to our shoes. I remember my first "real" running shoes, a pair of Brooks Ghosts. They were white with green and blue markings on them. I probably tried on about 10 pairs of different brands and styles that day, as a patient employee brought out stack after...
Honestly, there are so many conflicting studies on running shoes, it makes my head spin. I am hoping these are my solution. :)

Crosstraining for runners: Weights
As most of us runners (sadly) know, it's far too common to develop injuries from logging all those miles. Some people's bodies can handle a hundred mile a week, while other people can only handle 10. No, it's not fair... Continue reading
