It seems so weird to be writing my last blog post for capstone. This whole process, like many things, seemed like it would go on forever, but now it's hard to comprehend that it's just a few short weeks from being over. I've learned so much, and had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people over the course of the last 3 years that part of me is a little sad that it's almost over. Don't get me wrong - I'm ready to be done with homework and have my evenings back. I, like a lot of people, am... Continue reading

One of the most interesting things about this whole grad school process has been that I feel like I've learned as much about life in general as I have about marketing. The last couple of weeks of this process have taught me a lot about the importance of objectivity, which is something I'm not always accustom to. I'm a pretty emotional person, and tend to spend my time building relationships with the people that I feel connected to in some way rather than dividing my time up amongst a lot of acquaintances. And that goes for both my personal and... Continue reading

This week I knew I had a lot to tackle. Not only did I have a TON of work to do on my current Capstone project for National Marriage Encounter, but I was also asked (along with 2 of my team mates) to give a 2 hour presentation to 25-30 members of my previous capstone client in MN on Wednesday, which meant that I had 24-36 hours less time to work on the current tasks at hand. (Just what I needed!) When I got the green light from Drew on my project charter, I felt like I was officially focused... Continue reading

So much has been happening lately that it's been easy to get distracted. Work is incredibly busy, capstone #2 is underway, capstone client #1 has requested we make a presentation to their upper level management in MN this week, freelance requests keep coming in and, dare I say it, graduation is only 8 weeks away! All week I've been going back and forth between being excited about all of these things and being overwhelmed by the amount of work that needs to be done in such a short amount of time. With all of that said, I have found some... Continue reading

For as positive as this new capstone project started out last week, it has been almost as overwhelming this week. One of the biggest differences of this quarter vs. last quarter is the fact that this time I'm all on my own. Last quarter everything was such a team effort on so many levels. We had our team of marketing students, our individual company teams that included our DAAP designers as well as the entire Live Well team as a whole. So many people with so many ideas to embrace and align, and this quarter it couldn't be any more... Continue reading

I have a feeling that this post may get a bit out of control, but I will do my best to reign it in. Yesterday was the most wonderful day - but in a slightly abstract way. (Shocking, I know.) Most people wouldn't begin a "perfect" day with an alarm set for 6am on a Sunday to get through 7.5 straight hours of meetings, yet that was the beginning of my "perfect" day. And the amazing thing was that there was really only one thing that happened yesterday that was a big deal, but that in combination with a lot... Continue reading

It was such a relief to finish Capstone project #1 before we left for Europe. And as I move forward with this Capstone experience, I feel like I am learning just as much, or maybe even more, about life lessons as I am about marketing. Our last Capstone project with Live Well (in my mind) emphasized the importance of communication and teamwork. In our situation, there were a lot of unusual circumstances where we had to work together to establish common goals and decide how we wanted to approach the different segments of our project. Our weekly meetings at Live... Continue reading

This last week was so jam packed with events, meetings and photo shoots that I had to actually look at my calendar to remember everything that happened. Time management has been the key to surviving the last 2 weeks, and with any luck, the end of our home basketball schedule and a lack of evening photo shoots this week means that things should be a bit more manageable than the last 2 weeks. After looking back at my calendar of events last week and reflecting on all of the things that happened, I realized that one of my photo shoots... Continue reading

I can’t believe that it’s already the end of February. So many things have been packed into the last 2 months that it almost feel like it has to have been more than 2 months that we’ve been working on this project. We’ve had to learn how to work together as marketing teammates, (which sometimes is more of a lesson in efficiency since 3 out of 5 of us have full-time jobs) as well as how to work independently with our respective design groups. For as difficult as things were in the beginning of this project, I think I’ve learned... Continue reading

Less than three weeks to go before our final presentation and I can feel the tension building. Our surveys are trickling in and each one means we’re one step closer to a solid marketing strategy for our client, but there’s still plenty of work to be done. Time is ticking away and our Opportunity Space presentation is in a couple of days. The urgency of compiling data is starting to make me a little anxious. It reminds me of printing black and white images in a dark room. But before you can even think about developing the prints, you spend... Continue reading

Up to this point, it feels like so much prep work and planning has happened. What’s the goal? What modules are you going to do? When are we going to meet? Did we ask the right questions? Are we doing this right? Take a step back. Breathe. Review. Regroup. I feel like right now my team and I are in this first critique prep phase. Along with our LWC capstone team’s first project review with Drew, we’ve also given research presentations to our own business units and are still awaiting their feedback. And in my case, even though we gave... Continue reading

I’ve been working on this blog post in my head since we left class on Monday night. UDP seemed like such a great springboard for a blog post and as the days pass, I’ve been collecting my thoughts and ideas about how this concept can be directly applied to our LWC Capstone experience. 18 hours ago I could have told you my ideas on where I was going to go with this post, and although the overall concept is the same, its magnitude feels like it has just multiplied by 1,000. In class on Monday night we basically broke all... Continue reading

When I started thinking about this week’s blog post I had a hard time coming up with how I could write about anything that happened this week without acknowledging the drama that surrounded our group. I’m not going to spend my time, or your time reading this, talking badly about another group member. However, I will say that I felt very disrespected by another person’s words and actions this week. I used my blog post last week to talk about camaraderie and how Marihelen and I felt like our group was on track to start building a really good working... Continue reading

Amidst the numerous meetings I had this week regarding my capstone project, one comment that was made early on in the week has stuck with me. After our group had tweaked our interview questions at LWC on Tuesday, Marihelen and I had a conversation with Bhavik and Mahsino about the people in our MS - Marketing program last year and all of the different personalities we dealt with on any given Monday night. We shared stories about some of our favorite funny moments in class - that literally had us in tears from laughter, and all of the interesting people... Continue reading

Rough sketches have begun - although I'm sure the key word in that phrase is ROUGH. This week was full of time consuming research and meetings with all forms of our Capstone "team". Quite honestly, keeping all of them straight is beyond challenging. On top of a full-time work schedule (which includes evening and weekend hours) I need to find a balance of focusing my time and energy on being a good teammate to my Capstone group, my individual LWC design group and leading the marketing effort on my LWC design team. I've spent the majority of my life playing... Continue reading
