Talk about being exposed! I am referring to President Obama's assuring Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev that concessions on missile defense are forthcoming. The president said this while he thought the microphone was off. I don't know about you, but it looks like to me that our president is trying to... Continue reading

It's the red of Louisville vs. the blue of Kentucky in game 1 and the red (scarlet actually) of Ohio State vs. the blue of Kansas in game 2. I say Kentucky beats Louisville and OSU downs Kansas. Then Kentucky dispatches the Buckeyes for the championship. Continue reading

Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, and Kansas. The Final Four. Lexington, Kentucky's home, is 84 miles and 1.5 hours from Cincinnati. Louisville is 100 miles and 1.5 hours from Cincinnati. Columbus, home of the Buckeyes, is 106 miles and 1.5 to 1.75 hours from Cincinnati. With Cincinnati and Xavier both making... Continue reading

The Boy Scouts of America get to stay in Philadelphia ... the city of somewhat less than brotherly love. The loving city sought to kick the Scouts out because of the group's ban on homosexuals. The Scouts' oath requires members to be "morally straight." In addition the city has to... Continue reading

9-year member of the Marine Corps, Sgt. Gary Stein, started a Facebook page called Armed Forces Tea Party to encourage fellow corps members to exercise their free speech rights. On the page he stated that he would not follow the unlawful orders of the president. Stein was also critical of... Continue reading

Young ladies, you need to listen to the sage advice of pop icon Beyonce when she sings, "If you want it then you should put a ring on it!" I am no Beyonce fan. The song I reference is one of two songs that I know by her. But studies... Continue reading

I heard on the radio yesterday that when taken to task over going to war in Libya without the proper congressional approval, President Obama's leaders stated that an agreement with NATO and the United Nations provided the necessary approval. Can you repeat that please? You've got to be kidding! I... Continue reading

As promised I wanted to provide at least one person's take on the annual Christian rock band tour known as Winterjam. This was my third Winterjam. They've all been fantastic. $10 to see 8 - 10 bands. You can't beat the value. My impressions of the bands ... I liked... Continue reading

The older generation always sets the younger generation straight with, "When I was a kid ..." Then they proceed to regale the youth with tales of hardship and unbelievable rigor. It's the same stuff that makes fishermen great. The fish get larger with every re-telling. Just as my childhood stood... Continue reading

For the first time in NCAA history 4 teams from one state are in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA 2012 basketball tournament. That state would be Ohio and the teams are: Ohio State, Ohio, Xavier, and Cincinnati. To extend this run / phenomenon further, Indiana, Louisville, and Kentucky are... Continue reading

My daughter and I are going to Winterjam tomorrow at Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena. There are 10 Christian bands (primarily rock) playing. The only band I really know is Peter Furler (formerly of the Newsboys). I believe Skillet is headlining the show. You can't really complain when you pay $10... Continue reading

You’re walking down the street at night and out of the alley a man opens his trench coat and offers to sell you, not knock-off watches, not drugs, but … Tide detergent?? Yeah. When one thinks of the black market, a variety of products come to mind … pot, crack,... Continue reading

The globalization of business may have started before the 1980s, but that is when I became aware of it. As I leaned back in my chair at the time and thought about it … with U.S. wages being so high relative to other nations, I could see no other alternative... Continue reading

This is the best. You sit down … your brain just overflowing with basketball smarts … and you proceed to fill out your brackets. Your picks seem so solid, so right. Then the games start and … “what the ______?” They don’t call it March MADNESS for nothing you know!... Continue reading

The time for diplomacy with Iran is at its end. Time to issue an ultimatum. Throw down the gauntlet. You (Iran) allow inspections of your nuclear activities or look to the sky because missiles are on their way. Not to take out your citizens. No. But to dismantle your infrastructure.... Can you feel it? Come on now ... it's upon us. I'm talking about March Madness! It's the best. I enjoy the Super Bowl. The World Series ain't bad. The NBA ... who cares about the NBA. But if I could only have one time of the sports year, it... Continue reading

Last weekend (3/2/12) tornados ripped through southern Indiana, Northern Kentucky, and eastern Cincinnati. Last I heard 31 were dead. It was another sobering reminder of just how fragile life is. And it is amazing that some spots were leveled while adjacent sites were completely unaffected. It's scary and humbling. My... Continue reading

As predicted the presidential primary in Ohio was indeed a dead heat. In the end Mitt Romney pulled out the win taking 37.8% of the votes to Rick Santorum's 37.1%. I am okay with that. My fear though is the Republican primary will be so close that the winner will... Continue reading

Remember playing "chicken" as a kid? Trying to get the other person to flinch, say "uncle," or simply give up. Or having a "staring contest"? Who will blink first? Effectively that is what is happening economically right now. The stock market eclipsed 13,000 last week ... the highest it has... Continue reading

President Obama has proposed legislation requiring religious institutions (Catholic hospitals, etc.) to provide free birth control and/or abortion-related products or services against their beliefs. To me this is a violation of the First Amendment and an outrage. The Blunt Amendment, which would have protected religious freedom, was voted down in... Continue reading
