Hi Dave, Thanks for your kind comments and for reading the blog. Yes it was a great trip, when I retire I hope to go back and explore the parish records.

Port Sunlight houses opposite the school My dear demented sister (DDS) can’t resist a sisterly lark. So, on my last day in the UK, after her victory in the kitchen the day before, she generously offered to drive me to the Wirral to dig up the relatives, both dead and living. Aged Parent...

Rocking Away the Pain
For some time now I've been thinking of buying a Rocking Horse. I have a good excuse of course: to lure my curly-haired Grandson, Graham, over to his Granny's more often. But the truth is that I'm buying it for myself. Like the complete set of Noggin the Nog and Beatrix Potter books that I...
Hi Janet thanks for the message I look forward to reading your posts about Port Sunlight!

Hello Janet, Thank you for your comment. Yes my Aunt has a picture of my Gt Grandfather in that uniform too. The Port Sunlight historian recently interviewed her and looked at the photo album with these pictures of Thomas Holden and his family for a future exhibition on early residents of Port Sunlight. Did you go to the 125th year celebration exhibition? There is a page "Port Sunlight 125" on Facebook? Thomas died just before your relative became captain so perhaps you are correct that he took over although I think Lever Brothers likely had a fleet of barges by then. However it sounds as though you lived very close to my Gt Grandmother Elizabeth Holden who lived there until the 1950's. Almost all of her children worked in the soap factory. If you are interested you can find pictures of them on my Toohey Holden tree on ancestry.com. I agree the turners should to have gone to London. Good luck with your singing!
