I am a music-addicted crafter. I garden when it's easy and Homeschool my kids even when it isn't. Most of all, I read. I read when I'm happy, when I'm sad, to hide from things or to find things; I read when I have time, and even when I don't.

At first I thought I would simply start posting reviews again, quietly and without fuss - try to sneak into the back of the auditorium mid-play as it were. That somehow felt wrong, though. I also feel like I should have all sorts of neatly plotted excuses and justifications for... Continue reading

Truthfully I think I was being a little generous. It is hard to explain: the book is actually very readable, you know? And a reader less versed in or concerned with feminism might not have found it to be problematic at all. But if my description of Natalie screams "no" to you, you probably would do well to pass it on! I was being generous there as well! Thanks for the return visit and invite. And thank you very much for the compliment! It was a little disconcerting putting my own artwork out there so I still feel a little shy about it. :)
The Reader by Maja Lindberg on Etsy So I know that a little over a month ago I said I wasn't going to participate in any reading challenges or official reading commitments for a while -- and I'm not! not really! -- but there have been quite a few popping... Continue reading

Oh, lucky you! Being stranded smack in the middle of the fly-over states means that we seldom, if ever, get authors who are published outside of our University Press. (Come to think of it, we seldom get musicians of any note either!) Ordinary Magic was one of those sleeper books for me. When I first read it, it was good but I didn't quite realize how good. Then the more I thought about it, the more I loved it.
What beautiful fabrics! I can think of 100 uses for them already. :) Thanks for the giveaway!

"Soaked" by Mary Paints It's been a very busy week out there, so I'm only sharing a fraction of all the links I've accumulated. Yeah, I basically bought this before my re-emergence into the blogoshpere, and managed to miss ALL reviews before reading it. :) One of those times it may actually have really helped.

Thanks Heidi. :) I really, truly adore Mary Stewart and so would recommend any and all of her books for different reasons. Some, however, get a bit dated. The Gabriel Hounds is my favorite as far as Mary Stewart's ability to bring a place to life. She writes about a Lebanon that was quite real for her time but is only a distant memory for us. Touch Not The Cat brings in some supernatural elements, and has a quirky story and wonderfully snarky British observations of Americans. The Moonspinners has always been my favorite, though I cannot tell you why. Mary Stewart made me fall in love with Greece ~ so much so that I suffered through the two semesters of ancient Greek that my University required so that I could have the two semesters of Modern! Finally, Wildfire at Midnight is my favorite in terms of heroine ~ she's a little older, been through a little more, and I just LOVE what it has to say about marriage and forgiveness. And now I'll stop (because, really, I could talk for AGES about Mary Stewart.) :)
I fell in love with this image when I saw it. My children constantly amaze me with all they have learned from books they read for pleasure. I only have a tumblr source, so if you know the artist and title please give me a heads up. New Books (and... Continue reading
