One of they key enablers of performance for stored procedures is that they are written in the computational language of the database byte interpreter. For most RDBMS's that is SQL + the stored procedure language they were designed to process. So the language is built into the DBMS. For SQLFire that is SQL + the language that the DBMS was written in Java. Since it is a byte compiled language there is no need for another level of indirection.
