The Rainbow Quilt
Our middle girl recently turned 8. And turning 8 in our house means a mama made quilt. I'm not sure how that happened, it might even have been my own doing, but its now expected. I am amazed at quilters. Its such a feat and alittle daunting at first. A... Continue reading

First sewing
My 4 year old has taken an interest in sewing lately. Its hard for her not to, really. There is so much sewing that happens around here and she just wants to keep up with everyone. I remembered doing this burlap embroidery as an intro into sewing with her sisters... Continue reading

Turtles and Snails: Oliver and S Roller Skate Dress
Take a good look because she isn't going to wear this dress again. Or the sweater for that matter! Silly girl. She said she loved the fabric and wanted a dress out of it. Then, she said she wanted a sweater. She did mention that she wanted one like her... Continue reading

I know! I love that they actually stay on tiny baby feet!
Tiny knitted things
Tiny, right? My dear friend just had her second baby. We met because she was my midwife with Maggie. Back then, she didn't have children and it has been such a blessing to be a part of her transition to motherhood. Beautiful, even. She is a natural at it. I love knitting and sewing for peop...
that is an amazing party for just two days of planning! Wow! So sweet, that her wish came true. Six is awesome.
A Woodland Animal and Fairy Celebration...
Last Friday Violet turned 6! Six! Really? I know all parents say this all of the time...how can it be? To me six is hard to swallow, it's like we are on the fast track to 16 or something... It surprises me every year to see how much she has grown and each year I think "she's not a little gir...

Granny's Favorite in Purple
This sweater sat on my needles for a long time. Almost a year, actually. Its finally done, though. The pattern is Granny's Favorite by Georgie Hallam. Her directions have never failed me. Its the third pattern I've knit by her. The yarn is Lark by Quince and Co in plum.... Continue reading

Winter storm, for real.
We had a lovely, snowy, four day weekend! We couldn't believe it, actually. The snow just kept on coming! The city doesn't have plows so when it does snow the whole city closes down. That made it even more exciting! The streets were so snowy people were cross country skiing... Continue reading

under the wire: sewing KCW
Last night, at 7:00pm, when I was suppose to be putting my kids to bed, I was on the internet looking at all the fantastic clothes people are making during this Kids Clothes week. I told myself I couldn't participate this week, I didn't have time, I had other things to do. Then I saw some people...

a baby basket for the 4 year old
The house is quiet and I finally have a few moments to myself without feeling sick. Its been a rough winter around these parts. Virus after virus. I think I have finally kicked them all outta here though! We had a birthday this weekend. A four year old birthday. It was lovely. Good friends all a...

mittens with a flap
It seems silly posting about these mittens when we've had so many not-normal-for-Portland sunny days this winter. Nothing like friends and family who are dealing with feet of snow and the polar vortex. So really, we don't *need* these mittens. Yes, they are good for bike rides and the occasional... Some things you can't plan
I had grand plans to get here, in this space, right after christmas. Or at least for the new year. But then the flu hit our house. Hard. First I went down, six days before christmas and right in the beginning of my oldest's nutcracker performances. I thought for sure it would last only a day or ...

First Portland Snow
I woke up the other day to the youngest saying, "Mommy, its really raining out." I opened my eyes to take a quick peek and was shocked to find, not rain, but SNOW! It doesn't snow much here in Portland so we were all super excited. Haydn went into the... Continue reading

December and a sleeping bag

In-between
These days, I've been feeling tired of the unfinished work of life. The never ending dishes, laundry and cleaning. Does it ever end? Why didn't anyone tell me about this part? A few wise people in my life have talked about embracing those parts, really trying to appreciate the dish... Continue reading

my little mouse
I had every intention on getting here for one last hurrah for kids clothes week but the weekend took over. Lots of friend filled moments each day, just as we like it, but that left no sewing time. Today, I found myself with a feverish girl lying on the couch.... Continue reading

Thanks Jane! You should try it. It is pretty rewarding and totally not hard. It was so similar to shirt construction just with more bulk and a lining. You could totally do it. I think I want to try and oliver and s one next. Her patterns are always so clear and adorable!
KCW: Wool Double Breasted Coat for the littlest
During kids clothes week, the goal is to sew for an hour each day and come up with some clothes for your kids at the end of the week. Love it. However, I can never sew for just an hour (its always longer) and usually don't come out with any finished product even if I do. I guess some things can ...
Hey Jeyna,
thanks for visiting and the compliment! She is a tricky girl to sew for, its always music to my ears when I get it right!
