End of melt season and a lot of rain 23/09 +/- 3days?
PIOMAS July 2017
Another month has passed and so here is the updated Arctic sea ice volume graph as calculated by the Pan-Arctic Ice Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System (PIOMAS) at the Polar Science Center: Last month we finally received some good news from PIOMAS, and the good news continues this month. Wi...
After analyse of the ASIG maps and statistics a flash melt is possible during&after the new artic storm. The numbers of Cryosphere Today don't tell everything, they are just a stone in a tumbling wall. That the melting has come to a complete standstill is wishful thingking.
ASI 2013 update 6: major slowdown
During the melting season I'm writing (bi-)weekly updates on the current situation with regards to Arctic sea ice (ASI). Central to these updates are the daily Cryosphere Today sea ice area (SIA) and IJIS sea ice extent (SIE) numbers, which I compare to data from the 2005-2012 period (NSIDC has ...
@Neven
Arctic time bombs
While keeping an eye on day-to-day data and speculating about whether 2013 is going to overcome the odds and break last year's records, one tends to forget about the wider implications and what this actually is all about. A tree is incredibly interesting, but in the end it's all about the fore...

ASI 2013 update 4: bye bye, Beaufort

@NL Patents
Nice, but wistful thinking. 1.98 milj sq km and a ice free NP this year. The "Clif" is near.
PIOMAS June 2013
Another month has passed and so here is the updated Arctic sea ice volume graph as calculated by the Pan-Arctic Ice Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System (PIOMAS) at the Polar Science Center: After starting the year as the lowest on record, the 2013 trend line is now 425 and 901 km3 above th...
Mr R. Gates,
I agree your vision, 2013 melting season is starting slow, but this a disguise of sheer misery.
If this is real...
As usual, it's all about the if. Allow me to explain what this is about: In the first Arctic Sea Ice update of the 2013 melting season that was posted a couple of days ago, I announced that a cyclone was forecasted to move over the Arctic Basin and stay there for a while. It's been there for a c...
1.98 million Sq. km and a ice free pole, but... a lot mor ice in the NW passage. Possible it's not opening this year.
Crowd-Source Prediction of Minimum Arctic Sea Ice
How does the collective wisdom of Arctic Sea Ice blog participants compare with expert scientific analysis in forecasting the September sea ice extent? This question seems worth exploring with a crowd-source experiment. You are all invited to submit, as comments to this post, your best guess for...
