I'm not sure that I know what you mean by spelling lists. There are different sort books for the different WTW levels. You could generate a spelling list from those sorts.
A Teacher's Guide to Words Their Way
If you've visited our blog before, you know that we are big fans of Words Their Way (shortened to WTW). This is an assessment-based, differentiated, leveled approach to spelling and word work. Here's a little background on our experience with the WTW program: It's encouraged, not required in ...
You'll need to get the large Words Their Way book and go from there.

I don't let students keep anything in their desks, but each table has a tub with a spiral notebook and pencil pouch for each student. I also have several sets of highlighters so students can highlight an examplar for each category when I introduce each week's sort. Some sand timers from Oriental Trading are useful for speed sorts.
Words Their Way--Word Study
Edited to add: Please see the NEWER POST about WTW that has all this information + much, much more! After all that prep work it’s finally time for the kids to do some learning! With Words Their Way, the focus is on sorting the words. It’s a great way for the children to learn about spelling pat...
Thank you so much for letting us know, Karen! That's just wonderful to hear. That was my hope when I made these pages.
Back-to-School: Guided Discovery
Do you know The First Six Weeks of School by Paula Denton and Roxann Kriete? I love this book! I got it early in my teaching career and it's one of the few books that I pulled out to reference EVERY YEAR! The main philosophy of this book is that taking time to shape the learning environme...
Hi Nicki! They sort the pictures and then write the words as best they can. They don't have to spell the whole word correctly, but I hold them accountable for the feature we're looking at that week.

I'm sorry, but I don't have the page anymore.
Homework Folders (a.k.a. GOLD Folders)
Heidi and I started using these homework folders several years ago. We certainly didn't invent the idea, although I believe we've made it our own and came up with our own acronym. It's been revamped many times since we started but meet the G.O.L.D. homework folder, as Heidi is using it this yea...
Hi Rhonda!
I'm so glad you (and your coworker!) like the morning work. When it comes to having it bound, you probably won't like my answer. We have a district copy center, so I just send it off with a blue slip and I get 25 bound books back. And the school pays! The type of binding they use is called heat binding. It has a thick, almost fabric-like strip of tape glued to the spine. It holds up really well. The kids aren't easy on it at all and only occasionally one of the older pages will fall out.
Best of luck!
2nd Grade Common Core Morning Work
(See 1st Grade Morning Work here.) **We made a HUGE update to this product. Read about it in this post.** In my classroom, students begin the day by working independently in their morning work books for 10-15 minutes. Trying to design the original version of the morning work book in 2003 is what...
Hi Roxane!
You could certainly have your students continuing to practice missed words. If you have a way to manage it, it would definitely be helpful. I found, though, that if students are choosing words at the correct level of difficulty (advanced kids choosing harder words, struggling kids choosing easier words), they don't miss that many.
"Chunk" Spelling
EDITED AUGUST 14, 1014: Now includes suggested chunks for 1st and 3rd grade (scroll to the bottom). >>>>>>>>>> Spelling is one of those things that EVERYONE has an opinion about and very few people agree on. I think that the best way to learn how to spell is to spend extensive time reading an...
They're handy, but I wouldn't say they're vital. Especially since our school started allowing payments for lunches on line. There isn't that much that needs to be securely transported.

Hi Mary! Redownload your file from TPT. It should be updated now.
Acquiring Vocabulary with an Interactive Vocabulary Notebook
Words are not just words. They are the nexus—the interface—between communication and thought. When we read, it is through words that we build, refine, and modify our knowledge. What makes vocabulary valuable and important is not the words themselves so much as the understandings they affor...
Hi Sandy! I'm not sure exactly what you mean by reading comprehension pages. Are you referring to the 1 min. fluency stories? Those aren't included in this set.
If you look at the top of the post you'll see a grid that breaks down what homework I do. Since I only send 3 of these home a week 100 is enough for me.
100 Days of Homework
Soooo homework. Yeah. Isn’t that a tricky subject? After a dozen years of teaching here is my philosophy on homework. The general rule is 10 minutes of homework for every grade level. That would be 20 minutes for 2nd grade. I don’t include reading at home when I’m talking about homework...
Absolutely! Thanks June!

Thanks for the support Tresa! I wish I could offer this for 3rd grade, but I only have experience with 2nd graders.

There are many parents who feel that a teacher isn't doing her job if she doesn't assign homework. There's no way to make everyone happy. The only thing I can do as a teacher is to figure out what I feel is best for my students based on current research and experience. I feel that the work I've created meets both goals.

Hi Natalie!
I'm glad this looks useful for your team.
Our team binds it into a book so it's just all taken care of for the year. There's a cover in the pdf files if that's useful for you.
I use this as review and informal assessment. I test the material covered in the morning work in other subject areas (time telling test, place value test, etc.).
But I'm interested in hearing more about your DOL quizzes if you're willing to fill me in.

Thanks for the question, Amy! We just do one a day. When they're done they put a crayon in to mark the page and put it to the side until we're ready to correct it as a class. Kids who are finished read from the tubs at their tables.
I've seen another teacher who has the first 4 or 5 finishers show him their work and then, if they're correct, they get a special pen to go and check the work of their peers as they finish. I haven't tried it but it worked well in his class.
