'Shedding', 'simplifying', 'lightening the load' - thank you, I had been wondering about this as the sheer weight of physical 'stuff' still to be dealt with following my mother's death and that of my sister previously, threatens to smother day to day life. Start with the mind .... and maybe the rest will be easier....

A cathedral which will eventually be made from a forest. The original structure will rot away and the trees will grow to take over the form of the cathedral. http://www.amusingplanet.com/2012/01/giuliano-mauri-tree-cathedral.html

The roar of the local bus, which had dropped me at the top of the road down to Pennan (Aberdeenshire coastal village) died away, leaving the most profoundly beautiful, nourishing silence I've ever heard - but in the 'silence', the hum of bees and burnet moths, the cries of seabirds...... nature is rarely 'silent' - perhaps that as well as movement, makes the silence easier. As a child in Shetland I used to feel such a sense of anticipation in those silences and in the scents of a Spring morning or the hot sun on flower meadows - at the same time soothed by the beauty of it. Once unexpectedly in a cathedral, I heard a quiet voiced minister talk of such silences "charged with the presence of God" and of "silences between the words", pools of coloured sunlight staining the old stone as I listened to those silences. Some silences catch you unawares and catch your breath.

Yes, it's been a favourite of mine since I saw it in the National Galleries years ago and bought a postcard, which has been on my wall ever since. I like this one too http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/images/paintings/sud/624x544/nml_sud_wag_221_624x544.jpg

If you google 'icon of Jesus praying' and click on 'images', you'll find loads, some are a bit weird with flashing lights etc, but there are some interesting ones too. http://possessthevision.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/jesus-in-gethsemane1.jpg?w=640 http://christthetruth.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/jesus-praying.gif http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UOJjUH2o_wM/SwazTK8vwlI/AAAAAAAACjE/tlI4yJ11t2w/s1600/Agony+of+Christ.jpg and I've always liked the William Dyce painting 'Man of Sorrows' that you posted a while back - http://justluckie.typepad.com/.a/6a0133f55fd7b6970b016765316d7a970b-pi
