Conflict isn't something to be avoided. Even though the experience can be psychologically painful, it makes you a stronger person. In this case you have some ground to stand on and you benefit from the extra publicity it causes.

Good luck Jamie, you've got my support!
I had very similar thoughts about the puzzle/story combination while playing through Digipen's Perspective. There were definitely great puzzles in there and I would recommend the game to anybody but as you said, there was still something "dry" about it. Give it a budget and a story ftw.
The UVersionControl plugin is another option. It's all integrated into the editor and makes it easier to see if you've checked something in or not (a common problem), it automatically deals with meta files so you don't have to bother with that eyesore, and possibly the most important: for scene editing, it allows you to lock files. Overall, it's not perfect but it's free.
"real listening means allowing yourself to be changed"... love it and I'm all for anything that devolves from a contest about who's right and who wrong (aka ego feeding) and toward a more positive outcome.
